<p>Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) lashed out on X on Monday, claiming that no one used the term &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; to describe economic issues – but Merriam Webster&#8217;s online dictionary begged to differ on that point.</p>
<p>Goldman, who made his name as the attorney presenting the Democrats&#8217; case against former President Donald Trump during his first impeachment, was responding to the furor over Trump&#8217;s recent prediction of a &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; in the automobile industry if he loses his 2024 reelection bid.</p>
<p>&#8220;Since when does anybody use the term &#8216;bloodbath&#8217; related to economic problems? Especially someone who already incited a &#8216;bloodbath&#8217; after he lost the last election. We all know what he meant. Keep the gaslighting to yourself,&#8221; Goldman said.</p>

<p>But according to Merriam-Webster&#8217;s <a href="https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bloodbath" target="_blank" rel="noopener">online dictionary</a>, the term &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; has several standard definitions:</p>
<ul>
<li>a great slaughter</li>
<li>a notably fierce, violent, or destructive contest or struggle</li>
<li>a major economic disaster</li>
</ul>
<p>And the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/medias-wall-to-wall-coverage-of-trump-bloodbath-comment-delivers-zero-context" target="_blank" rel="noopener">full context of Trump&#8217;s remarks</a> — context that was omitted by multiple media outlets as they suggested that he intended to promote political violence — lent credence to his defenders, who said that he was clearly talking about the economy and the automobile industry at the time.</p>
<p>Trump, during an Ohio rally over the weekend, said that he was speaking directly to Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding a Communist-China-owned car company&#8217;s plan to build cars in Mexico and then sell them across the southern border in an effort to avoid higher tariffs.</p>

<p>&#8220;Those big monster car manufacturing plants you are building in Mexico right now and you think you are going to get that — not hire Americans and you’re going to sell the car to us, no,&#8221; Trump said.</p>
<p>&#8220;We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those guys if I get elected. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole – that’s gonna be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country. That’ll be the least of it,&#8221; he continued.</p>
