<p>Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) claimed on Tuesday that the re-election of President Donald Trump was evidence that the United States was effectively going through its &#8220;angry teenage years&#8221; and argued that it was up to Democrats to get the people through that period alive.</p>
<p>Slotkin joined the hosts of ABC News&#8217; &#8220;The View&#8221; to discuss the state of American politics after she&#8217;d delivered the rebuttal to President Trump&#8217;s address one week prior, and she suggested that the political &#8220;pendulum&#8221; swinging back to Trump was comparable to dealing with teens whose brains had not yet &#8220;fully formed.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I think there&#8217;s a feeling in the country — and I often say this — we&#8217;re about to turn 250 years old. right, we&#8217;re still pretty young for a country,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/NickFondacaro/status/1899486028403982562" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Slotkin said</a>. &#8220;These are our — like our angry teenage years, right? We are going through this push and pull where we&#8217;re happy, we&#8217;re sad, we want this, we want that.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;And what do you do when you have a teenager threatening themselves and others? You just try to get them through this period alive, so that their brain can fully form and you can come back to — kind of — what our country —&#8221; she continued.</p>
<p>&#8220;Are you talking about Trump?&#8221; cohost Joy Behar interrupted, prompting laughter from the audience.</p>
<p>Slotkin said no, she was not referencing Trump directly but rather the American people who had elected him.</p>
<p>&#8220;No, I&#8217;m talking about our country, we&#8217;re pendulum swinging. We&#8217;re pendulum swinging,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And so for me, there&#8217;s a — I don&#8217;t think that there&#8217;s a single American who feels like this is normal.&#8221;</p>
<p>Slotkin took a different tone over the weekend when she told NBC &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; host Kristen Welker that Democrats were struggling to get a foothold, noting that President Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress had them essentially &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senate-dem-has-no-answer-for-whos-leading-party-dems-have-been-on-their-heels-since-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">on their heels</a>&#8221; since the November election.</p>
