President Donald Trump offered the role of White House Press Secretary to UFC CEO Dana White on Saturday — and within hours, White confirmed that he was headed to the White House to meet with the president.

“I’m flying to Washington, D.C. right now. Straight after this!” White said on Saturday. “We have a meeting on Monday, so. Sure. I’ll have more to talk about after that.”

Trump had offered White the role earlier that same day.

“I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent fighter and warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States,” said Trump on his Truth Social. “I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris. We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other.”

White has not publicly indicated whether he will accept the offer but has been active on his social media posting videos of UFC fight previews and an AI generated video of himself at the White House podium. He captioned the video, “On to the next chapter.” Trump closed his post with a direct appeal,“Dana, please take the job.”

CNN is reporting that a source close to White has said that he has declined the offer.

The post follows the administration’s latest leadership shakeup, with Trump promoting Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to Chief of Staff following Susie Wiles’ resignation. The President has not made additional comments but some people have questioned whether Trump’s offer was serious.

Trump Advisor Alex Bruesewitz said on social media, “Dana White as Press Secretary would be awesome.” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said, “Hell yeah! Do it Dana White. It’ll be just like old times.”

The White House Press Secretary role has been unoccupied ever since Karoline Leavitt left the position, save for a brief one-week stint from Katie Zacharia. After just five days on the job the White House said that Zacharia would be “transitioning out” of the role. “I told Katie that in my opinion she was treated very, very unfairly, very unfairly by the news,” Trump told reporters after breaking the news. “And I said, Katie, do you need this? I don’t think you need this, and we’re talking about doing something. We like Katie a lot.” He added, “I said to her, honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider,” he added. “I would reconsider.”

Zacharia’s stint as press secretary made history as the shortest tenure in the role — beating the record of previous White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, whose tenure in that position lasted eleven days.

Zacharia did not comment on the fact that her potential successor could be Dana White and neither did former Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Trump and White have been friends for years, and recently worked together to set up the UFC fight that took place on the South Lawn of the White House on the night of President Trump’s 80th birthday.
