When you imagine the day your boyfriend of two years asks you that one special question that will change your life forever, you probably don’t envision your dad in the distance holding a sign that reads, “SAY NO.”
But this is exactly what happened to Nevada woman Allison Barron.
Her father Jake Barron crashed her marriage proposal from boyfriend Levi Bliss on Saturday in epic fashion. As Bliss was down on one knee and asking her to be his, Allison caught a glimpse of her father standing atop a nearby hill with the hilarious sign. Allison said she immediately burst into laughter, as did Levi.
On Sunday, Allison posted photos from the proposal, including her father’s homemade sign, and captioned the tweet, “My dad had other ideas..”
Though Mr. Barron is close to Levi and approved of the young man for his daughter, as disclosed to BuzzFeed News by Allison, his humorous stunt captures what I’d imagine every father might be feeling on some level the day his daughter gets engaged. Thus, the image was widely relatable and instantly went viral.
“This is really just my dad’s personality,” Allison assured BuzzFeed. “We have a very close family and so he’s made little jokes like this before.”
Mr. Barron and the groom-to-be are close, frequently playing tennis and riding dirt bikes with one another.
“We both know my dad so well, we got the joke right away and found it funny,” added Allison.
The bride-to-be posted confirmation that she ignored her father’s jocular wishes and said “yes.”
Congrats to the happy couple, and hats off to the clever father of the bride-to-be!
