On Thursday, Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) announced she had requested the National Guard be stationed indefinitely in her city to deal with the 4,000 illegal immigrants who have arrived on migrant buses, calling it a “tipping point.”

Even before Thursday, in a July 19 letter to the office of the Secretary of Defense on behalf of Bowser that requested the National Guard be stationed in the city, the letter cited GOP governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Doug Ducey of Arizona sending buses of illegal immigrants to Washington D.C., with 4,000 immigrants arriving on 200 buses, then complained, “In the last month, however, the pace of arriving buses and the volume of arrivals have reached tipping points.”
Senator Ted Cruz blasted Bowser after her Thursday statement claiming the city had reached a “tipping point,” snapping, “If 4000 is a tipping point, what the hell do you call the THREE & A HALF MILLION illegal immigrants who’ve crossed our southern border??”

Bowser said on Thursday, “I’ve asked for the deployment of the guard as long as we need the guard to deal with the humanitarian crisis that we expect to escalate. The number of people crossing the border seeking asylum, we expect to only go up, we need to make sure that there is a national response, not an ad hoc city by city, state by state response.”
While Bowser has been willing to call the National Guard in to help with illegal immigrants, her city is suffering from a soaring number of homicides. By the end of June, the city had registered 100 homicides, a number not usually reached until October. Tim Meads of The Daily Wire noted:
June is the earliest month that tragic record has been broken since 2003, according to a local CBS affiliate. D.C. Police Union Chairman Gregg Pemberton recently claimed that the city’s recent “police reform” is to blame for the rise in homicides, among other crimes. “This increase in crime is due to the DC Council’s implementation of misguided ‘police reform’ legislation,” Pemberton told the outlet.
“The Council’s actions have had a chilling effect on professional and responsible policing,” Pemberton told the press. “Other major cities that have passed similar legislation have also experienced the mass departure of police personnel and, as a result, surges in crime. While the Council does its business inside a building protected by armed security, police officers in the real world are unable to do the impactful and necessary tasks needed to protect the public and apprehend violent criminals.”
