Covington Catholic Bishop STILL Will Not Apologize For Maligning Innocent Boys

Catholics in America suffered yet another round of humiliation this past weekend when the Diocese of Covington, Kentucky, caved into mob pressure by maligning a group of innocent high schoolers based on a viral video taken wildly out of context.

“We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general, Jan. 18, after the March for Life, in Washington, D.C.,” said the office of Bishop Robert Foys in a statement on Saturday. “We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.”

The statement condemning a group of minors to a life of ruin at the hands of an SJW mob remained on the Covington archdiocese’s website well into Monday, even after evidence increasingly showed that the boys were not bullying a Native American protester and were in fact victims of racial harassment.

Rather than apologize to the students who will now have to walk with a scarlet letter across their chest for years to come, the Covington Diocese issued an “update” on Tuesday, saying a “third-party investigation” is underway to determine if any “corrective action” should be taken.

“Concerning the incident in Washington, D.C., between Covington Catholic students, Elder Nathan Phillips and Black Hebrew Israelites the independent, third-party investigation is planned to begin this week. This is a very serious matter that has already permanently altered the lives of many people. It is important for us to gather the facts that will allow us to determine what corrective actions, if any, are appropriate,” the January 22 statement read, according to LifeSiteNews.

“We pray that we may come to the truth and that this unfortunate situation may be resolved peacefully and amicably and ask others to join us in this prayer.”

The Covington Diocese issued this horrifically disgusting statement of moral abdication even as multiple pundits, journalists, and celebrities have issued apologies of their own for jumping to conclusions too soon. In the wake of this disgrace, members of the Covington Catholic community have been excoriating the diocese for shamelessly throwing these boys under the bus. LifeSiteNews has more:

Posting on the “Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington” Facebook page on January 19, Gillian Lawlee-Foster wrote, “Absolutely disgusted by the behavior of those highschool kids and by the adults responsible for raising, teaching and shepherding them. What a disgrace!”

But today Anna Dobin wrote, “You should have paused before you threw your children under the bus. You said there would be an investigation yet made a judgement.”

There are now over 200 comments on the diocese’ Facebook page, many of them chastising the bishop for the diocese’ condemnation of the teenagers.

Novelist James McElroy wrote a similarly scathing rebuke of the Diocese in the American Conservative. “The most egregious adult failure came from the Kentucky diocese that threw its own children under the bus,” McElroy wrote. “Responsible leaders would have waited for more information before issuing a statement. These kids were violently threatened by deranged lunatics only to be threatened with expulsion from their school.”

“Church leaders are supposed to be shepherds, but they’ve been so beat up by the child abuse scandals that they no longer have any fight in them. And by failing to wait for the full story, the Church betrayed its youth once again, along with the entire pro-life movement by legitimizing propaganda against it,” he continued.

The commissars in charge of Covington Diocese are not the only members of the American hierarchy behaving shamelessly during this railroading of innocent young boys. As of this writing, Cardinal DiNardo, president of the USCCB, has uttered not a word in the boys’ defense, nor has he rebuked priests like Father Edward Beck (CNN Commentator) who doubled down on his condemnation of the boys even after evidence proved them innocent.

“My feelings about the #CovingtonBoys are unchanged since the first reporting and viewing many different videos,” Beck tweeted. “The boys acted inappropriately and chaperones should have intervened. And boys should not have been permitted to wear MAGA hats if they were representing the school.”
