So many “Friends” fans have every moment of the series memorized. One of the show’s six stars, however, claims she doesn’t remember a lot about her time on the hit NBC series and wishes she had taken more pictures while she was there.
Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller, made the surprising revelation during a recent interview with “Today’s” Willie Geist for an extended “Sunday Sitdown.”
The 57-year-old actress said she realized just how much she’d forgotten while filming the highly anticipated “Friends” reunion special last year. “I should’ve watched all 10 seasons because when I did the reunion and was asked questions, I was like, ‘I don’t remember being there,’” Cox said with a laugh. “Yeah. I don’t remember filming so many episodes.”
Cox reunited with former “Friends” co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer to reminisce about their time on the iconic comedy series.
“I see it on TV sometimes and I stop and go, ‘Oh my God, I don’t remember this at all,’” the actress continued. “But it’s so funny.”
Cox did admit to having a “bad memory” and doesn’t remember many things from her past, so not having memories of “Friends” is par for the course.
“It’s really basic,” she told Geist. “I don’t remember any trauma in my childhood, but I have, like, three memories. I don’t know. I don’t know why.”
Cox said, “I’m kinda bummed that we didn’t spend more time taking pictures. Because I don’t have a lot to look back at.”
During the same conversation, the “Friends” alum remembered the last big outing she had before becoming super famous. That’s at least one memory the actress was able to retain from the early days of the series.
Apparently, “Friends” director James “Jim” Burrows took the cast on a trip to Las Vegas right before the show premiered in 1994.
“He gave us all $500. And he said, ‘I want you to take care, like, really take notice of this moment because it will be the last time that all six of you together can walk through a casino,’” the actress recalled. “And we were like, ‘Really?’ And it was true. We never [sic] could never do that (again).”
“I mean, I don’t wanna sound like, ‘Look at us.’ We’re not, you know, the Beatles. But people feel like they know you,” she continued. “If we were all to walk down the street, six of us, it would be, I think it would be really interesting to people.”
Cox had another revelation during the interview, saying sometimes the audio was sped up to fit in commercial breaks, which had the unfortunate consequence of making her voice sound weird.
“Oh my God! I hate my voice so much,” she said, elaborating that it sounded like “a mouse” or “Tinker Bell.”
Overall, the Emmy-nominated actress is happy for the legacy of “Friends” and how it impacted her life. She and the rest of her five cast mates remain real friends close to two decades later.
“I feel lucky,” she told Geist.
