Costume designer Patricia Field said she once kicked John F. Kennedy Jr. out of her Manhattan boutique because he made rude comments toward her transgender employees.

“The Devil Wears Prada” costume designer, who had a reputation for hiring transgender employees, made the claim in her new book, titled “Pat in the City: My Life of Fashion, Style and Breaking All the Rules.”

According to a report published Sunday by Page Six, Field said in the memoir that the younger Kennedy had come into her shop along with his then girlfriend, actress Daryl Hannah, and appeared to take issue with the fact that Hannah was getting more attention than he was from the staffers.

“Drag queens love a good mermaid,” Field wrote in the book, suggesting that Hannah’s role as a mermaid in the 1984 film “Splash” was the reason that her staffers “went gaga” over the actress — and all but ignored Kennedy.

“He looked around and announced, ‘Bunch of freaks.’ If JFK Jr. was looking for attention with his comment, he got his wish,” the “Sex and the City” costume designer wrote. “All the queens at the shop were more than capable of dismissing anyone who acted up.”

Field recalled that it had been an employee named Codie who let Kennedy have it: “If you don’t like it here, get the f*** out.”

“There was no room for interpretation. He went to wait outside while his girlfriend got the royal treatment,” Field added.

Kennedy Jr. dated Hannah after she broke up with her longtime boyfriend, musician Jackson Brown — and they stayed together until after his mother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, passed away in 1994. Their split, according to biographer Steven M. Gillon, was in part due to Hannah’s dogs.

According to Gillon’s book, “America’s Reluctant Prince: The Life of John F. Kennedy Jr.,” Kennedy Jr. was upset that the actress and model was more concerned about a sick dog than she was about the fact that he had just lost his mother.

The couple called it quits just a few months after Onassis’ death.
