Comedian Heather McDonald on Tuesday joked about a scary collapse she had this weekend while performing standup in Arizona, leaving her with a fractured skull and two black eyes.

McDonald was reportedly only one joke into her set when she fainted in front of a sold-out crowd, and the joke she told was about being fully vaccinated and boosted.

“I don’t mean to brag, I don’t care, but I want you to know: double-vaxxed, booster, flu shot,” McDonald joked on stage. “And, I’m going to be honest, I have the shingles shot, too.”

“Traveled, went to Mexico twice, did shows, meet-and-greets, never got COVID,” she continued. “Clearly, Jesus loves me the most, seriously.”

The comedian then loses her balance and falls backward, knocking her head on the stage.

McDonald addressed the shocking moment via Instagram with a Tuesday post. In a video clip of the collapse, a voice says, “When you faint on stage after you brag about being vaccinated.” The clip continues, showing McDonald and another comedian, Justin Martindale, laughing about the fall.

The comedian further joked by captioning the video: “I fainted on stage and fractured my skull in front of a sold out show at the @tempeimprov What do you think caused it? #karma #Jesus#comedy #juicyscoop #standup #covid.”

During an episode of her podcast, titled “Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald,” the comedian recalled the incident in detail. She noted that she did not have a lot to eat the day she collapsed and added that she was currently wearing sunglasses to cover up her two black eyes, caused by the fall.

“I have two completely black eyes,” she told listeners.

McDonald suggested on the podcast episode that she was not actually mocking the unvaccinated, but made the joke about her vaccinations “because it’s the truth.” She added that she wanted people to “feel confident that I followed the rules,” noting that performers are required to be vaccinated against COVID.

“I’m not judgmental of whatever anybody wants to do,” she said.

“I do feel a little braggy in L.A.,” McDonald joked, noting that her proof-of-vaccination card is completely full.

McDonald captioned her podcast, “I fainted on stage in Tempe, Arizona. I went to the hospital and had a fractured skull. I’m here to tell you all about it and my recovery so far. Did Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Mary Cosby send Jesus for me? Right after I said, ‘Jesus loves me the most,’ I fell back and hit my head hard. I talk about it with the eye witness, Justin Martindale. We explain what I was doing all day before the show, and break down what bad karma I have that caused this to happen.”

A spokesperson for McDonald told People magazine this weekend that the comedian “was admitted to a local hospital where a comprehensive work up [is] under way.”

“Thus far the test have revealed no underlying medical issues that may have precipitated this event,” the spokesperson added, “noting that she performed the night before with no incident and she didn’t consume any alcohol before or during Saturday evening’s show,” People reported.
