Comedian and actor Damon Wayans last week praised Dave Chappelle for his Netflix special “The Closer,” saying the politically incorrect content “freed the slaves,” referring to fellow comedians feeling trapped to perform within the confines of the Left’s terms, lest they be canceled.

“I feel like Dave freed the slaves,” Wayans told TMZ. “The comedians, we were slaves to PC [political correctness] culture and he just, you know, as an artist he’s Van Gogh. Cut his ear off, he’s trying to tell us it’s okay.”

Wayans said he’s personally always felt “free” from the Left’s confines, but he sees how other comedians are being stifled, out of fear of being “canceled.”

The 61-year-old also emphasized the principle of freedom of speech, noting that you’re not really free if you’re only saying things you believe you have to say and forgoing taboo territory out of fear.

“I just feel like [Chappelle’s] saying, ‘All that I have, I’m not afraid to lose it for the sake of freedom of speech,’” the actor said.

“You can’t edit yourself,” Wayans continued. “Comedians, we’re like … Mercedes makes a great car. But they gotta crash a lot of them before they perfect it.”

“Someone needs to look us in the eye and say, ‘You’re no longer free in this country. You’re not free to say what you want, you say what we want you to say — otherwise we will cancel you,’” Wayans underscored. “That’s the discussion we should have.”

Chappelle, once again, completely bucked the Left’s narrative on gender in his recently-released Netflix comedy special “The Closer.”

In the special, the stand-up said plainly that “gender is a fact” and defended “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, who has taken heat for refusing to comply with progressive gender theory.

The Washington Examiner reported on some of Chappelle’s commentary in the special [Warning: language]:

“Gender is a fact,” Chappelle says , according to a Daily Beast report of his sixth special on the streaming platform. “Every human being in this room, every human being on Earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on Earth. That is a fact. Now, I am not saying that to say trans women aren’t women, I am just saying that those p*****s that they got … you know what I mean? I’m not saying it’s not p***y, but it’s Beyond P***y or Impossible P***y.”

The comedian also took on the backlash aimed at women who do not comply with the Left’s gender theory, namely Rowling.

The author notably identified herself as a “TERF,” or “trans-exclusionary radical feminist,” back in 2019, according to the Examiner. The term is typically used by transgender activists to disparage women who reject the notion that biological males can be women. Chappelle said in the special that he’s proudly “team TERF,” after offering a defense of Rowling, the Examiner reported.

“Any of you who have ever watched me know that I have never had a problem with transgender people. If you listen to what I’m saying, clearly, my problem has always been with white people,” Chappelle later joked in “The Closer.”
