Charlie Puth took time out of his latest concert in Australia to honor “Friends” star Matthew Perry following news of the actor’s death on Saturday.

In a video that first surfaced on TikTok and then shared on X, the 31-year-old can be seen sitting down behind a piano at his concert in Melbourne playing the theme song to the hit 90’s show, “I’ll Be There For You,” with the crowd joining in and singing every word.

As Puth played the notes, the crowd sang, “So no one told you life was gonna be this way/Your job’s a joke, you’re broke/Your love life’s DOA…,” before Puth joined in with the chorus, “I’ll be there for you/(When the rain starts to pour)/I’ll be there for you/(Like I’ve been there before)/I’ll be there for you/(‘Cause you’re there for me too).”

The “We Don’t Talk Anymore” hitmaker then transitioned after the chorus into one of his popular songs and started singing the lyrics to his 2015 hit, “See You Again.”

The crowd roared, and it was clear it was an emotional moment as Puth sang, “It’s been a long day without you, my friend/And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again/We’ve come a long way from where we began/Oh, I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again/When I see you again.”

The tribute comes after the actor, best known for his “Friends” role as Chandler Bing, was found unresponsive at his home in his jacuzzi on Saturday, TMZ noted. No illegal substances were found at the scene,e and no foul play was suspected.

On Sunday, the coroner’s office labeled the cause of death “deferred,” meaning that after the autopsy an additional investigation needed to be done to determine the cause of death, the Hollywood Reporter noted.

“Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies,” a spokesperson for the department previously explained to THR, when the coroner deferred the case of death for Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January. “Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.”

A spokesperson told People magazine that a toxicology was being done to determine Perry’s death, which they said could take weeks to complete.

Perry, who appeared in all 234 episodes of “Friends” during its 10-season run, had been open in the past about his long struggle with addiction to alcohol and prescription painkillers, as previously reported. He was 54.
