On Tuesday, an attorney for Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, Marc Kasowitz, released a blistering statement blaming “far-left” groups for running a “smear campaign” against his client, adding that evidence of such will be forthcoming.
“Bill O’Reilly has been subjected to a brutal campaign of character assassination that is unprecedented in post-McCarthyist America,” said Kasowitz’s statement.
The Fox News host has been hit with numerous claims of sexual harassment from female accusers, five of whom have been paid a total of $13 million in outside court settlements, according to The New York Times. In the wake of the allegations, The O’Reilly Factor lost dozens of advertisers, though O’Reilly’s ratings remain sky-high.
“This law firm has uncovered evidence that the smear campaign is being orchestrated by far-left organizations bent on destroying O’Reilly for political and financial reasons,” the statement continued. “That evidence will be put forth shortly and it is irrefutable.”
No evidence of the smear campaign was offered directly in the statement, but, oddly, conservative media platform TheBlaze founder Glenn Beck may have provided some proof Wednesday morning via Twitter. Beck posted an email from the Bonner Group, a Left-wing fundraising activist group that works under Media Matters For America.
“The Bonner group/A Super PAC and fundraiser for Hillary & DNC. The Campaign against Bill OReily [sic] is orchestrated by [Media Matters] & [Bonner Group],” Beck caption the email, adding a #smearcampaign hashtag.
The celebratory email, dated April 13 and penned by Mary Pat Bonner, labels their apparent actions to bury O’Reilly a “campaign.”
“For years Bill O’Reilly has been one the worst purveyors of misinformation on Fox News. A serial misinformer, pushing many of the most extreme, sexist, racist, homophobic, xenophobic conservative theories on TV,” says the email. “Thanks to Media Matters, O’Reilly and Fox News are being held accountable.
“Due to our advertiser education campaign, over 80 advertisers have currently dropped O’Reilly’s show and the momentum continues to build,” boasts the Left-wing group. “We are currently at a critical juncture in this campaign I hope you can join Media Matters President Angelo Carusone to hear about the success of the campaign so far, and our plans moving forward.”
Bonner then offers an invitation for an upcoming group phone call seemingly concerning the campaign against O’Reilly.
Of course, this is not evidence that O’Reilly is innocent and the claims are bunk, but it does show a coordinated effort from the Left to oust O’Reilly for his political views.
It has been rumored that O’Reilly is already on his way out at Fox due to the allegations of sexual harassment.
