Students for Justice in Palestine calls terrorist attacks ‘historic win,’ urge followers to pivot away from facts when discussing conflict with Israel

The largest network of campus anti-Israel groups is organizing a “Day of Resistance” on Thursday to rally support for the deadly Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel, calling the murder of nearly 1,000 Israelis, including women and children, a “historic win for the Palestinian resistance.”

Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), a national group with a presence on college campuses across the country, says it has an “unshakable responsibility” to answer the Palestinian terrorists’ call for mass protests in the wake of the attack on Israel.

“Our people choose resistance over negotiated cages on our homeland,” the group states in a Day of Resistance Toolkit, a copy of which was obtained by The Daily Wire. “Fearlessly, our people struggle for complete liberation and return.”

The call for complete liberation and return is an explicit call for the elimination of Israel, which is a shared goal of the Hamas terrorist groups. The SJP toolkit calls Hamas’ terror attacks a “historic win” and refers to terrorists as “martyrs.”

“We witness a historic win for the Palestinian resistance: across land, air, and sea, our people have broken down the artificial barriers of the Zionist entity, taking with it the facade of an impenetrable settler colony and reminding each of us that total return and liberation to Palestine is near,” the toolkit states. “As the Palestinian student movement, we have an unshakable responsibility to join the call for mass mobilization.”

“National liberation is near— glory to our resistance, to our martyrs, and to our steadfast people,” it reads.

SJP is calling for protests by its chapters across the United States and Canada, which it refers to in the document as “occupied Turtle Island,” a reference to what Native American tribes called North America.

It is distributing talking points to defend Hamas for its terror attacks, as well as templates created on Canva to organize events. After publication of this story, Canva removed SJP’s template from the site, labeling them incitement of violence.

“Violence of any kind goes against everything we stand for and we have strict guidelines in our Terms of Use to take action against Canva being used for harm,” a company spokesman said late Wednesday. “This imagery explicitly references an act of violence from recent events, which goes against our policies and has been taken down.”

SJP directs members to divert from the “facts” of the situation in favor of pushing the narrative of Israelis as occupiers. “Framework > Facts,” the group tells members, advising them to “pivot the conversation” away from facts and say that “Israel is an apartheid state” or that “the relationship between Palestinians and Israelis is disproportionate,” according to the document.

College campuses have emerged as a hotbed for anti-Israel sentiment, and it appears to be largely driven by SJP. A shocking statement from students at the University of Virginia referring to the terrorist slaughter as “an unprecedented feat for the 21st century,” for example, was put out by the school’s SJP chapter. SJP has also been the force behind pro-Hamas statements from students at Swarthmore College, Harvard University, and George Washington University.

The anti-Israel campus group also provides “messaging & framing” guidance for members at protests, laying a roadmap for how to portray the brutal attacks — in which babies were taken hostage and even decapitated by terrorists — as justified.

SJP says the goal is to “contextualize, frame, and above all normalize and support our fearless resistance.”

The first of these points explains that “When people are occupied, resistance is justified.” Through this slogan, SJP contends that the “resistance” is “both morally just and politically necessary.”

Recent shocking images and video footage show Hamas terrorists torturing the living and mutilating the dead. The graphic footage shows families, couples, the elderly, and children indiscriminately murdered by the militants, while some are led away as terrified captives.

The group claims that nobody in Israel should be considered a civilian, because “settlers are not ‘civilians.’” All Israelis, according to SJP, are “military assets used to ensure continued control over stolen Palestinian land,” and “when people are occupied, resistance is justified.”

The document goes on to claim that “liberating colonized land is a real process that requires confrontation by any means necessary.”

Officials have reported more than 1,500 people have been killed and thousands more wounded in Israel and Gaza amid the conflict. In addition, dozens of people are believed to have been taken hostage by Hamas, and the group has threatened to execute the prisoners in response to air strikes on Gaza.

The Day of Resistance toolkit states that the Hamas terrorist attack proved that “israel (sic) is fragile,” and that “settlers are already fleeing the land.”

“Their ‘dedication’ to the settler colony is easily broken,” the document states. “The dedication of Palestianians (sic) for their national liberation is unshakable.”

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel’s response to those responsible for the heinous attacks will be remembered for decades, stating that any city where Hamas operates would be turned into a “city of ruins.”

According to the Washington Post, “The Israeli military has summoned 360,000 reservists to fight in the war with Hamas — the largest mobilization since the 1973 Yom Kippur War, when 400,000 reservists were called up.”

SJP has significant financial ties to Hamas, according to congressional testimony by Jonathan Schanzer, an expert on terrorist finance networks. The campus group is funded by American Muslims for Palestine, a Chicago-based organization with leadership with significant Hamas ties. One board member, Salah Sarsour, has served prison time for transferring money from the United States to Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigade.
