Superstar Shawn Mendes shared a heartbreaking message with fans about canceling the rest of his world tour in order to take “some much needed time off” to deal with his mental health.

In a lengthy message shared Tuesday on Twitter, the 23-year-old pop singer talked about how excited he was to finally return to touring after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world. However, as thrilled as he was to be going back out on tour, he said he hadn’t properly prepared himself for “the toll” being on the road would take on him.

“As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me,” Mendes shared. “I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.”

“After speaking with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger,” he added. “I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK/Europe.”

“We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority,” the singer continued. “This doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music, and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future.”

The “Stitches” hitmaker closed out his post by noting how he knows fans have been waiting a very long time to see these shows and said that “it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal.”

The “Treat You Better” singer also told his fans how much he loved them and thanked them “all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.”

Several weeks ago, Mendes announced he was postponing several shows on his “Wonder: The World Tour” to deal with mental health “until further notice,” People magazine noted. His new post cancels the rest of the tour dates. The tour kicked off June 27 in Portland, and the singer was booked to perform more than 60 shows through August 2023.
