<p>Federal prosecutors have reportedly gathered enough information to charge President Joe Biden&#8217;s son, Hunter Biden, with multiple crimes related to taxes and lying to investigators about a firearm purchase.</p>
<p>The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/10/06/hunter-biden-tax-gun-charges/">reported</a> that federal agents &#8220;determined months ago&#8221; that they had a viable criminal case against the president&#8217;s son, but the agents do not have the ability to file charges. That ability lies solely with the U.S. Attorney in Delaware, a holdover from the Trump administration at the U.S. Justice Department.</p>
<p>Now U.S. Attorney in Delaware, David C. Weiss, must determine whether to file criminal charges against 52-year-old Hunter Biden.</p>
<p>The federal criminal investigation into Hunter Biden began in 2018 and focused on financial matters stemming from his overseas business dealings. As the investigation grew, multiple agencies scrutinized whether he paid all the taxes that he was required to and whether he lied on an ATF Form 4473 background check while purchasing a firearm.</p>
<p>“A prosecutor can say they have bigger fish to catch, or they can decide to seek a deal,” Joseph G. Green, a retired ATF agent, said. “As agents, we would always include as many charges as we could, but it’s ultimately up to the prosecutor to decide which ones they will bring.”</p>
<p>Fox News and CNN <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/critical-stage-feds-consider-charging-hunter-biden-with-multiple-crimes-including-gun-charges">reported</a> back in July that Weiss&#8217;s office was weighing charging Hunter Biden with a variety of crimes related to tax violations, lying on the gun background check form, and possible foreign lobbying crimes.</p>
<p>Hunter Biden&#8217;s attorney was furious over the report, saying that any federal agent that leaked information to The Washington Post committed a felony.</p>
<p>“It is a federal felony for a federal agent to leak information about a Grand Jury investigation such as this one,” attorney Chris Clark said in a statement. &#8220;Any agent you cite as a source in your article apparently has committed such a felony. We expect the Department of Justice will diligently investigate and prosecute such bad actors. As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case are diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all the other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense. That is the job of the prosecutors. They should not be pressured, rushed, or criticized for doing their job.”</p>
<p>A group of over 30 GOP senators wrote a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hunter-biden-prosecutor-needs-special-counsel-status-to-protect-investigation-gop-senators-say">letter</a> to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland last month pushing for a special counsel to protect the ongoing Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation into Hunter Biden from politicization. The senators cited whistleblower accounts alleging that top officials at the FBI quashed concerning reports about the Biden scion prior to the 2020 election.</p>
