BREAKING: FBI REOPENS Investigation Into Hillary’s Server

On Friday morning, FBI director James B. Comey dropped a bombshell on the Hillary Clinton campaign: he effectively re-opened an investigation into Clinton’s emails, likely thanks to Wikileaks dumps giving him access to more emails from Clinton and among members of her team. Here’s the letter to eight Congressional committee chairmen:

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) released a statement about the Comey re-investigation:

The FBI’s decision to reopen its investigation into Seretary Clinton reinforces what the House Judiciary Committee has been saying for months: the more we learn about Secretary Clinton’s use of a private email server, the clearer it becomes that she and her associates committed wrongdoing and jeopardized national security. Now that the FBI has reopened the matter, it must conduct the investigation with impartiality and thoroughness. The American people deserve no less and no one should be above the law.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan responded to the Clinton investigation by calling for the Director of National Intelligence to “suspend all classified briefings for Secretary Clinton until this matter is fully resolved.”

Comey must be feeling serious heat within the FBI over his decision not to recommend prosecution for Clinton originally. She clearly broke the law in a wide variety of ways, and he clearly killed the prosecution for political reasons. But now, Comey probably feels he must get on record about her corruption before the election to maintain any shred of credibility: if he waits until after the election, he’ll be accused of having held up the investigation in order to get her elected. To be fair, that’s precisely what he did – eleven days before the election is not long enough to let the news settle that Hillary belongs in jail. But he’ll be able to say, with at least a baseline level of plausibility, that he didn’t hold things up based on politics.

Now the question becomes: will Hillary Clinton be able to stop the bleeding before election day? With the polls tightening, momentum has clearly shifted away from her. Expect her team to drop some oppo on Trump on Monday.

UPDATE: As Dana Perino just reported on my podcast, the emails at issue are not due to Wikileaks according to senior law enforcement. They were discovered on a different device and deemed pertinent to the Clinton investigation, which was never technically closed. They’re numerous enough that the FBI won’t set a timeline.
