PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - JULY 19: Police tape blocks a street where a person was recently shot in a drug related event in Kensington on July 19, 2021 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. According to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics, over 93,000 people died from a drug overdose last year in America. These numbers and the continued rise in opioid use made 2020 the deadliest year on record for drug overdoses. Officials have said that the increase is being driven by the lethal prevalence of fentanyl and stressed Americans due to the Covid pandemic. Kensington, a neighborhood in Philadelphia, has become one of the largest open-air heroin markets in the United States.

Five high school football players were shot Tuesday evening as they were walking off the field following a scrimmage between three schools.

Philadelphia law enforcement officials said that one of the five players died from injuries they sustained from the shooting, which unfolded as two armed men ambushed the players from an SUV. The victims were transported to local hospitals.

The shooting happened at approximately 4:30 p.m. following a scrimmage between Roxborough High School, Northeast High School, and Boys Latin Charter School.

The boy who was killed was 14 years old and was shot in the chest. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the arm and the leg, another 14-year-old boy was shot in the thigh, and a 15-year-old was shot in the leg, according to police. Another student was reportedly grazed by a bullet and was treated at the scene.

“There are no words for what transpired earlier tonight. Another young life has been cut short and others injured by needless violence,” Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney tweeted. “The violence must stop and the cowards who use these weapons must be held accountable.”

Far-left District Attorney Larry Krasner claimed that he was “absolutely outraged” by the shooting. Shootings have skyrocketed while Krasner, who is backed by leftist billionaire George Soros, has served as D.A.

“I’m shocked — frankly, I’m a little shaken,” Krasner said. “This is horrifying, what is happening out here. I feel for obviously all the families, all the students — I can’t even look at the principal, imagining what she’s going through. … Schools are supposed to be the answer. We keep kids in schools so they don’t get involved in the shooting.”
