Border Patrol Reports Record-Shattering Daily Apprehension Total In El Paso

   DailyWire.com

On Wednesday, The Daily Wire reported on U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)’s recording of a staggering number of Memorial Day apprehensions around the CBP-designated El Paso Sector.

“2,200 apprehensions in 1 day in 1 Sector—Memorial Day was the busiest recent day of enforcement activity for El Paso Sector Border Patrol agents,” CBP tweeted. And per CBP’s official press release about the day’s events:

The busy day began in the boot heel of New Mexico with a large group of over 200 illegal aliens apprehended near the Antelope Wells Port of Entry just after 2 a.m.

A second enormous group was one of the largest in El Paso Sector thus far with over 430 people. This group crossed the border just west of Bowie High School at around 7 a.m.

By the end of the day, the El Paso Sector Agents had apprehended over 2,200 illegal aliens with 1,850 of those being taken into custody in the geographic area between Executive Boulevard and Midway Street in El Paso.

These groups were comprised of mostly Central American families and unaccompanied children. All of the illegal aliens were taken into custody for processing to include initial medical screenings. They will remain in U.S. Border Patrol custody until they are processed accordingly.

Now, NBC News reports how, this past Wednesday, CBP and Border Patrol completely shattered its single-day apprehension number for just the El Paso near-vicinity — in other words, not including the entire CBP-designated El Paso Sector along the border:

More than 1,000 migrants were apprehended after illegally crossing the border near El Paso, Texas, early Wednesday morning, according to two U.S. officials and a document obtained by NBC News.

The group of 1,036 is the largest ever encountered by the Border Patrol; the previous record of 424 was set last month. …

The 1,036 immigrants included 934 people traveling in family groups, 63 children traveling alone, 39 single adults and others who had not yet been identified. All of those processed as of Wednesday morning are from the Northern Triangle countries of Central America, with 515 from Guatemala, 135 from Honduras and 76 from El Salvador.

CBP has often used extraordinarily blunt language, of late, to describe its ongoing humanitarian and migrant influx crisis wreaking havoc all along our beleaguered southern border. As The Daily Wire previously reported, CBP responded to the publication earlier this month of its monthly apprehension numbers for the month of April by tweeting about the “unprecedented” and “unsustainable” influx: “#CBP is experiencing an unprecedented and unsustainable situation at the Southwest border. In April, CBP apprehended or deemed inadmissible 109,144 individuals along the SWB.”

A month prior, CBP Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez referred to the onslaught as a “system-wide emergency.” “We are currently experiencing a system-wide emergency in our processing and holding facilities,” Perez stated at the time of the release of CBP’s apprehension data for the month of March.

As the situation at the border has exacerbated, The Daily Wire has reported how even many more Democrats are willing to recognize the situation as a full-on sovereignty “crisis.”
