A judge blocked the release of Bob Saget’s death records, one day after the deceased comedian’s family filed suit to keep the records private.

“Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo, and three daughters, Aubrey, Lara and Jennifer, filed the lawsuit Tuesday against Orange County Sheriff John Mina and the District Nine Medical Examiner’s Office,” NBC News reported on Wednesday. “Both agencies have been handling the probe into Saget’s death after the comedian, 65, was found dead Jan. 9 in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes.”

Circuit Judge Vincent Chu determined that Saget’s family has a “clear legal right or interest in the Protected Records as the surviving spouse and children of Mr. Saget.” Indeed, the lawsuit stated that “Plaintiffs will suffer irreparable harm in the form of extreme mental pain, anguish, and emotional distress if Defendants release the Records in response to public records requests or otherwise disseminate the Records for any other reason or purpose.”

In the wake of Saget’s death, some physicians have noted that his injuries appeared consistent with severe trauma — although not necessarily consistent with a violent attack.

“I think the autopsy report does raise a number of questions about the nature and extent of the injuries. If we typically see slip and falls that occur usually in the bathroom, someone hits the back of their head on the shower or the bathroom floor,” neurologist and stroke expert Dr. Jason Freeman told MSNBC. “These injuries described in detail in the autopsy report seem to go beyond that. And I think, as you described in your opening, this is where some of the medical professionals began to speculate about what could have caused the actual injuries.”

“I would agree that the injuries as described do typically form because of significant head trauma,” he continued. “So again, when someone slips and falls and hits the back of their head, there’s actually room for the brain to shift between the back and front of the head and cause some of the injuries as described in the autopsy report.”

CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta — also a neurosurgeon — has also speculated about Saget’s cause of death. “I think what it reveals more than anything else is that this was not a sort of simple bump on the head.”

“When you read this autopsy report, that may still be the case, but it was a very significant blow to the head,” Gupta continued, pointing out that the skull fractures were extensive enough to stretch from the back of Saget’s head around to his right temporal bone — and that there were additional fractures on the front of his skull.

After unveiling the cause of Saget’s death, his family released a statement expressing their gratitude toward his fans. “As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.”
