On Friday, officials announced that assistant to the President and White House communications director, Bill Shine, resigned from his position in order to join the President’s re-election campaign as a senior advisor.

“Serving President Trump and this country has been the most rewarding experience of my entire life,” Shine said in a statement. “To be a small part of all this President has done for the American people has truly been an honor. I’m looking forward to working on President Trump’s re-election campaign and spending more time with my family.”

Trump reportedly accepted his resignation on Thursday night.

“We will miss him in the White House, but look forward to working together on the 2020 presidential campaign, where he will be totally involved,” Trump said in a statement.

“Bill has been an asset of invaluable importance to this West Wing,” Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said in a statement. “I have enjoyed working with him and witnessing first hand his unmatched talent, expertise, and skills. I am grateful that he will continue to be an important member of team Trump. I look forward to all of his future contributions.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said that Shine would be missed.

“Bill Shine has been a great leader on our team and someone we have all loved working with every day,” Sanders said. “He has brought a tremendous amount of talent and expertise to this Administration. Bill has become a real friend and his generosity and his passion for our country will be sorely missed. It is a big loss for the White House, but a huge gain for the President’s re-election campaign.”

Trump’s campaign manager, Brad Parscale, said that Shine’s addition to the re-election campaign will make the campaign “stronger.”

“Bill Shine is an incredible professional and will bring insight and talent as we build a world-class campaign,” Parscale said in a statement. “He is a gifted communicator, strategic thinker, and brings a wealth of experience from cable news and the White House. The President’s re-election effort just got stronger.”

Shine had been serving as the fifth White House communications director since Trump initially took office. Others include Sean Spicer, Mike Dubke, Anthony Scaramucci, and Hope Hicks.

Shine joined the White House in June after being pushed out of Fox News, where he had been serving as a top executive. The Daily Wire previously reported that Shine was under scrutiny after sexual harassment allegations surfaced against Bill O’Reilly and Roger Ailes, with some accusing Shine of not doing enough to stop the harassment. Shine had been with Ailes since the initial launch of Fox News, and filled his shoes after Ailes was ousted.

Shine’s wife was in controversy last month over criticizing CNN for discussing a measles outbreak, The Daily Wire reported.

“Here we go LOL #measlesoutbreak on #CNN #Fake #Hysteria,” Shine’s wife, Darla tweeted. “The entire Baby Boom population alive today had the #Measles as kids. Bring back our #ChildhoodDiseases they keep you healthy & fight cancer.”
