The Bidens have plans to build new barriers around their Delaware home as the nation has faced record levels of illegal border crossings after the president cancelled border wall construction projects along the southern border.
The report was first shared by the Delaware Cape Gazette last week regarding the variance request.
The variance request from First Lady Jill Biden “seeks variances from the maximum fence height requirement for proposed fences” and was scheduled for discussion before the Sussex County Board of Adjustment on April 4.
A search of the Sussex County government website confirmed the variance request.
“Months ago, the Cape Gazette reported the Department of Homeland Security, with the Secret Service as the subagency, awarded a $455,000 contract to Rehoboth’s Turnstone Builders for ‘purchase and installation of security fencing at 32 Farview, Rehoboth Delaware,'” the Cape Gazette reported.
The outlet notes that the house is “about a mile north Rehoboth Beach.”
“At the time, the expected completion date was by the end of 2021. To date, the fence has not been constructed, and a public notice published in the March 15 edition of the Gazette appears to explain why,” it added, citing the pending variance request.
The application’s plans include a 4-foot-tall stone wall along the front of the house, as well as “a 10-foot-tall fence with stone columns along the sides and a 10-foot-tall aluminum fence along the rear of the house,” according to the report.
In contrast, Biden paused the construction of walls along the nation’s southern border on his first day in office. More than two million illegal immigrants were encountered at the southern border in 2021.
Further, the deportations of illegal immigrants have dropped up to 90% since 2019 after Biden took office, according to a report from the Center for Immigration Studies.
The report, based on information obtained by a Freedom of Information Act request, revealed the number of illegal immigrants deported from January 21 to July 9, 2021, was 90% lower than the same period in 2019, the last year prior to the pandemic.
In December, Texas launched its own border construction program, led by Republican Governor Greg Abbott.
“Texas has officially started building its own border wall,” Abbott tweeted.
“Biden allows open border policies and refuses to enforce laws passed by Congress to secure the border and enforce immigration laws,” The governor added. “Texas is stepping up to do the federal government’s job.”

The White House quietly ended the military’s involvement in border wall construction in May, canceling contracts inked during the Trump administration, leaving holes in the border wall amid the ongoing illegal immigration crisis. The Daily Wire previously reported:
The Pentagon announced the change on Friday, suggesting that freeing up the money being used to complete the “barrier project” along the southern border will ultimately benefit the United States military by allowing the funds to go to other, higher priority projects.
“The DoD has begun taking all necessary actions to cancel border barrier projects and to coordinate with interagency partners,” the Pentagon said in its statement. “Today’s action reflects this Administration’s continued commitment to defending our nation and supporting our service members and their families.”
This is, Politico notes, the second part of President Joe Biden’s efforts at ending President Donald Trump’s anti-illegal immigration border wall project; the first step was an executive order, issued the same day Biden was inaugurated, rescinding the former president’s “border emergency” declaration and freezing around $15 billion dollars in planned Congressional spending on the border wall.
