President Joe Biden responded Thursday to classified documents from his time as vice president found in his home in Delaware by saying they were in a locked garage next to his Corvette.
Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president, said in a statement that “all but one of these documents were found in storage space in the President’s Wilmington residence garage.”
Sauber added that the other document found was “discovered among stored materials in an adjacent room.”
Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy pressed Biden over the matter during a press conference on Thursday.
“Classified material next to your Corvette?” Doocy asked. “What were you thinking?”
“Let me, I’m going to get a chance to speak on all this, God willing soon, but as I said earlier this week, people and, by the way my Corvette’s in a locked garage, OK?” Biden responded. “So it’s not like they’re sitting out in the street.”
When asked by Doocy to confirm that the classified documents were in a locked garage, Biden responded, “Yes, as well as my Corvette.”
“But as I said earlier this week, people know, I take classified documents and classified material seriously,” Biden said. “I also said we’re cooperating fully and completely with the Justice Department’s review.”
“As part of that process, my lawyer has reviewed other places where documents from my time as vice president were stored and they finished the review last night,” Biden continued. “They discovered a small number of documents with classified markings in storage areas, and file cabinets in my home and in my personal library.”
Biden said that as was the case with the first batch of documents found at the Penn Biden Center, the Department of Justice was immediately contacted, and the documents were quickly turned over.
To summarize, we’ve gone from:
– Biden declaring how careful he is with classified information
– To “whoops!”
– To “But muh Corvette was locked, man!”…In just a few days. pic.twitter.com/DUUqmvFjRV
