President Joe Biden kneecapped Vice President Kamala Harris this week for trying to lead the administration’s disaster response to Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton in an apparent effort to boost her presidential campaign.
The incidents come after Biden appeared to do something similar on Friday when he joined the White House press briefing — something he seldom does — at the exact moment that Harris stepped on stage for a campaign rally in Michigan, forcing television news shows to cover his remarks over hers.
On Monday, Harris responded to claims — which were allegedly leaked by her people to the media — that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was rejecting her phone calls by claiming that DeSantis was “utterly irresponsible” and “selfish.”
Shortly after Harris made her remarks to reporters, Biden published a post on X showing that he was on the phone working with DeSantis.
“Tonight, I spoke with Florida Governor DeSantis and Tampa Mayor Castor for firsthand reports on Hurricane Helene recovery and preparations for Hurricane Milton,” Biden wrote. “My Administration is ready to support both leaders and the people of Florida with any further resources they may need.”

DeSantis strongly pushed back against her claims, saying that he never received calls from her and that she has never once been involved in any of the administration’s disaster response efforts. He said that she had “no role” in anything related to this process and she was not even in the chain of command.

On Tuesday, as Harris appeared on ABC News’ “The View” for a softball interview, Biden delivered remarks to the media about his work on the hurricane with DeSantis.
“The governor of Florida has been cooperative. He said he’s gotten all that he needs. I talked to him again yesterday, and I said, ‘You’re doing a great job. It’s being all being done. We thank you for it. And I literally gave my personal phone number to call.”

During the press briefing last week where he overshadowed Harris’ campaign rally, Biden made it clear that there was no daylight between him and Harris when it came to the administration’s record — which Harris is desperately trying to avoid being connected to.
“Well, she’s — I’m in constant contact with her,” Biden said. “She’s aware of where — we all — we’re singing from the same song sheet. She helped pass all the laws that are being employed now.”
“She was a major player in everything we’ve done, including passage of legislation, which we were told we could never pass,” he continued. “And so, she’s been — and her — her staff is interlocked with mine in terms of all the things we’re doing.”
Biden says he is in “constant contact” with Kamala Harris.
“We’re singing from the same song sheet. She helped pass all the laws [that resulted in record high inflation]. She’s a major player in everything we’ve done.”
