Throughout 2022, President Joe Biden has warned the American people that the GOP “isn’t your father’s Republican Party.”

He also said that line in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

For nearly twenty years straight, Biden has lamented that his political opponents are a bunch of radicals. They are, as he loves to say, “a different breed of cat.”

That begs the question, just who exactly does Biden consider to be “your father’s Republican Party?”

Biden thought the era of compassionate and big government conservatism under President George W. Bush was something extraordinarily out of the norm. It wasn’t that different from President George H.W. Bush’s Republican Party

The party at the time pushed for tax cuts, nation building, was socially moderate, and even softer on illegal immigration. But that was too extreme for Biden.

In 2008, he thought that noted centrist and late John McCain — somebody who reportedly wanted Independent Senator Joe Lieberman to be his running mate — didn’t represent your “father’s Republican Party.”

Then, in 2009, the Tea Party was born in reaction to big business bailouts and an over-bloated government that ignored the constitution — a hallmark of both Bush’s and McCain’s GOP. By 2010, Biden warned that the grassroots movement had taken over the Republican Party, and voila — the GOP of yesteryear was gone once again.

“This is not your father’s Republican Party,” Biden said at a 2010 fundraiser. “This is the Republican Tea Party. These are not the same brand of cat you are dealing with.”

The Tea Party had historic wins in Congress that year, and by 2012, then-President Barack Obama and Biden were pining for the days of McCain.

Can you guess what Biden said in that race?

“This is not your father’s Republican Party,” he said again. “This is a different party than I’m used to … It really is different.”

And, he’s warning that “MAGA Republicans” have taken over the party. This new “breed of cat” represents one of the worst threats to democracy itself ever, as the president tells it.

In short, it still isn’t clear what party Biden is familiar with.

Neocons, moderates, the Tea Party, MAGA supporters, populists, and folks like Donald Trump, Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI), former Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH), and more are not included in a mythical Republican Party that Biden remembers fondly.

Over the years, Biden has actually thrown out the names of a few Republicans whom he considered to be the standard bearers of the GOP. Senator Charles “Mac” Mathias (R-MD), Senator John Warner (R-VA), and Senator Bob Packwood (R-OR).

All three men were considered liberal Republicans, Warner endorsed him in 2020, and Packwood resigned in 1995 over sexual assault allegations.

So, it seems that Biden’s preferred version of the GOP is one that doesn’t fight the Left, supports his platform without question, and is filled with creeps.

If that is “your father’s Republican Party,” it’s a good thing the GOP no longer represents that.
