A shocking new report from the House Oversight Committee says the Biden administration broke the law in its crusade against the alcohol industry.
Last year, the Biden administration released a report that claimed there was “a very direct link between alcohol consumption and increased cancer risk.” Surgeon General Vivek Murthy called for putting this warning on all alcohol products and called for a reassessment of the guideline limits for alcohol consumption to account for cancer risk.
As The Daily Wire reported at the time, this was the culmination of the Biden administration’s quiet efforts to redo America’s dietary restrictions to recommend Americans never drink alcohol. The relatively secret effort, which flaunted years of precedent and drew on the recommendations of Canadian citizens, largely flew under the radar.
The congressional investigation found the Biden administration’s alcohol study was both biased and unlawful. The report comes just hours before Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins hold a press conference in the White House Briefing Room, where they&#8217;re expected to unveil new guidelines.
The <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/report/a-study-fraught-with-bias-how-the-biden-administrations-alcohol-intake-and-health-study-tried-to-undermine-the-2025-2030-dietary-guidelines-for-americans/">report</a>, titled “‘A Study Fraught With Bias: How the Biden administration’s Alcohol Intake and Health Study Tried To Undermine the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines For Americans,” details a yearlong congressional investigation into the alcohol and health study authorized by the Biden administration in 2022. Biden’s study found a link between cancer and alcohol.
According to the report, the Biden administration directed the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking to conduct an alcohol intake and health study intended to influence the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. House Republicans argue the effort violated federal law.
Congress had already authorized the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and appropriated $1.3 million to conduct the sole alcohol related study meant to inform the next round of dietary guidelines. Lawmakers say the Biden administration&#8217;s parallel effort was not only duplicative but also designed to reach a predetermined conclusion.
House investigators found that all six members selected for Biden’s study were &#8220;anti-alcohol advocates who had conducted previous research linking negative health outcomes with alcohol.&#8221; Three of the six experts in Biden’s study reside in Canada and were involved in developing Canada’s controversial 2023 alcohol guidance, which concluded that no amount of alcohol consumption is safe.

Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, suggested on Thursday that he will go all-in on funding Republican candidates for the 2026 midterm elections.
Musk, who left the White House in May amid a public falling out with President Donald Trump, appears to have put the bad feelings behind him, <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2006832891024781722">saying</a> on Thursday that &#8220;America is toast if the radical left wins.&#8221; Musk made the comment on X, reposting a report that stated he is &#8220;going all-in funding Republicans to help President Trump take back full control in the November midterms.&#8221;
Musk said that if Democrats win, they would &#8220;open the floodgates to illegal immigration and fraud,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Won’t be America anymore.&#8221; The billionaire&#8217;s social media post appears to confirm a <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/12/16/elon-musk-donations-midterms-republicans-trump">report</a> from Axios last month that stated Musk recently made large <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/back-in-the-game-musk-reemerges-as-major-gop-donor-reportedly-cuts-big-checks-ahead-of-midterms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">donations</a> to multiple Republican campaigns ahead of the 2026 midterms and planned to make more.
Musk reportedly met with Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles in November at the vice president&#8217;s residence. His relationship with Trump has also appeared to have healed, as the Tesla CEO was seen chatting with the president at the September memorial service for assassinated Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Musk also attended a dinner at the White House for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in November.
To have Musk back in the picture as a major donor would be a major boost for the Republican Party, which is facing an uphill battle to retain control of the House and prevent Democrat obstruction of President Trump&#8217;s agenda. Musk said in May that he would dial back his political spending after cutting checks totaling around $240 million to back Trump and Republicans in 2024. Musk argued that his donations and advocacy gave Republicans control of the House and put Trump in the White House for a second time.

Musk had a bitter falling out with Trump and Republican leaders over the president&#8217;s &#8220;Big Beautiful Bill,&#8221; which he argued would increase the deficit and undermine his work on the Department of Government Efficiency project to cut government waste.
After leaving his role as a senior adviser to Trump, Musk suggested that he might create a third party to oppose both Democratic radicalism and Republican inaction, but that plan never came to fruition. Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro principally values a habit of telling the truth in any leader of the Republican Party.
Shapiro spoke about what he values in GOP politicians in an interview with The Daily Wire on the sidelines of the Turning Point USA AmericaFest conference that ended on Sunday.
“The number one thing that I would look for from any Republican leader at this point is simply telling the truth,” said Shapiro after he was asked a question on the future of Republican politics.
“I think the president has a habit of doing this in sort of pithy, short versions,” Shapiro said of President Donald Trump.
“He has a capacity for saying unpopular truths, which is great. We need more conservative leaders saying things that are true, even if, in the short-term, they&#8217;re not quote-unquote coalitional,” he continued, “because, again, you&#8217;re going to need to break whatever is here and you need to rebuild it stronger, and the only way to do that is with some true leadership.”
Shapiro spoke on the main stage at AmericaFest on the opening night in a speech that generated headlines because of its bomb-throwing, but put forward a message on the importance of truth in politics.

“Because victory — true victory — cannot be achieved without truth. Victory without truth is victory for a lie. And that is no victory at all. And unity without truth is no unity. It is merely solidarity in falsehood,” said Shapiro in a version of his speech posted on <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/ben-shapiro-only-cowards-tolerate?r=nyv5h&amp;utm_source=flipboard&amp;utm_content=topic%2Fmossad">The Free Press</a>.
In the interview, Shapiro said that the conservative movement has drifted away from a commitment to truth as more “clowns” have come into the movement.
“You have people who were not conservative, who have entered, who have brought their non-assimilated, non-conservatism into the conservative tent,” said Shapiro. “To sort of pretend that the leadership of the movement ought to be vested in people who are either brand new and don&#8217;t hold those principles or people who have abandoned the key principles that have upheld the conservative movement for the last several decades, I think, is an enormous error.”
“A movement without principle is not a movement at all. It&#8217;s an agglomeration of people who are following whoever happens to be the leader that day,” he said.

Topline: The FBI has arrested a suspect in the January 5, 2021, pipe bomb case. The arrest comes after five years of investigations into who planted two explosive devices outside the headquarters of the Republican and Democratic parties.
According to the Department of Justice, the election of President Trump marked the start of the search for the suspect in earnest. Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel hammered that point in a press conference on the arrest on Thursday. 
“The FBI, along with U.S Attorney Pirro and all of our prosecutors, have worked tirelessly for months sifting through evidence that had been sitting at the FBI with the Biden administration for four long years,” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-fWeLzgNyI">said</a> Bondi.
Officials gave much credit to FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino. Even before he was picked to help lead the FBI, Bongino closely followed this case.
“You&#8217;re not going to walk into our capital city, put down two explosive devices, and walk off in the sunset. Not gonna happen. We were gonna track this person to the end of the earth,” said Bongino on Tuesday.
The suspect: U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Brian Cole Jr., of Woodbridge, Virginia, will be charged with “transporting an explosive device” and “attempted malicious destruction by means of explosive materials.”
Officials refrained from giving many more specifics on the case. At the time of the press conference, the search at Cole’s house hadn’t even concluded.
Charging <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.287327/gov.uscourts.dcd.287327.1.1.pdf">documents</a> released Thursday gave a few more details. Law enforcement said it reviewed Cole’s credit card activity and found that he purchased components consistent with the materials needed to make the bombs between 2018 and 2020. They also reviewed Cole’s cell phone data, which showed him in the area around the RNC and DNC headquarters on January 5. They also caught Cole’s car, a 2017 Nissan Sentra, on a license plate reader about half a mile from where the bombs were placed.

Topline: President Trump hosted African leaders on Thursday for the signing of yet another peace deal, as military leaders testified before Congress regarding recent airstrikes on alleged drug smuggling boats.
Peace president: Trump hosted leaders from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo–two countries that have been engaged in a bloody conflict for more than a decade. But on Thursday, after negotiations brokered by the president, the two countries signed on to the Washington Accords, which will create a “permanent ceasefire.”
Under the agreement, Rwanda will remove all of its troops from Congolese territory, and both sides will cut off all support to militia groups operating there. The presidents of Rwanda and Congo were complimentary of Trump, crediting him with the peace agreement they both signed

What’s in it for the United States? Despite being among the poorest countries on earth, both Congo and Rwanda are home to enormous deposits of rare-earth minerals. Congo, in particular, is the world’s largest producer of Cobalt and the second largest producer of copper. Trump helped move the deal along by <a href="https://x.com/TabZLIVE/status/1996648347403477443?s=20">promising</a> that, with economic development spurred on by the United States, “everybody’s going to make a lot of money.”
War crime or hoax? Congress is moving full speed ahead on its investigation of the strikes against alleged drug boats in the Caribbean. On Thursday, Congress heard closed-door testimony from Adm. Frank Bradley, who oversaw the operation, and reportedly claimed he was given no orders to kill survivors, contradicting that Washington Post report.
Members were also shown footage of the attack. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said it proved the two survivors were “trying to flip a boat loaded with drugs bound for the United States back over so they could stay in the fight.”
Democrat members, though, had a very different take. Connecticut Democratic Rep. Jim Himes said it showed “the United States military attacking shipwrecked sailors.”
President Trump said he would support making that footage public.

Topline: As the Trump administration ramps up its immigration crackdown following the attack in Washington, D.C. by an Afghan national, it’s also fighting a PR battle against the Democrats and legacy media outlets.
Kilmar Abrego-Garcia was just the tip of the iceberg. Since the large-scale deportations began, Democrats and media personalities have glommed onto the stories of any illegal aliens that tug at the heartstrings. Whether or not the story is true does not appear to figure into their calculus.
A recent example is CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan. She claimed that nearly half, 48%, of the illegal aliens currently being detained by ICE are being held without any charges or deportation orders. 
But DHS fact-checked the claim. It says this is simply “WRONG,” and that about 70% of illegal aliens arrested “have pending criminal charges or criminal convictions.” They then pressed the outlet, asking, “Does CBS really want us to release accused murderers and rapists back on the streets?”
Democrats weigh in: Democratic lawmakers are painting the administration as reckless and tyrannical.
A recent example is Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), who referred to federal agents as kidnappers and parroted a story about a teen taken into custody at school.
But DHS pushed back on him as well, saying he’s “missing the facts.”
“This 17-year-old used his vehicle to violently ATTACK ICE and Border Patrol agents,” the agency posted. It included a timeline of events that identified the teen as an American citizen — but also identified him as a suspect who had allegedly attacked and impeded federal law enforcement officers.
Another Democratic senator from Maryland, Chris Van Hollen, recently responded to the news that a nail salon owner in his state was set to be deported to Vietnam. He said that “Melissa Tran came here on a Green Card at age 11. She’s since raised four kids, started a business, &amp; is a beloved member of the Hagerstown community.”
But as DHS noted, Van Hollen was “omitting some pesky facts.” The nail salon owner in question had “criminal convictions including grand larceny, multiple counts of forgery and fraud.” In fact, an immigration judge issued her a final order of removal way back in 2004. ICE arrested her in May.

Offer Vince Shlomi, who is best known as the ShamWow infomercial host, filed Friday to run for Congress in Texas as a Republican. &#8220;ShamWow&#8221; is even listed as part of Shlomi&#8217;s official name in the <a href="https://texasgop.org/primary-filing-information/">filing records</a>.
&#8220;I&#8217;m the ShamWow guy,&#8221; Shlomi told The Daily Wire. &#8220;You want a boring politician or an exciting one?&#8221;
Shlomi said he was inspired to run after Charlie Kirk was killed.
&#8220;I feel called to stand on my beliefs and make real change in this world in his honor,&#8221; Shlomi said. &#8220;Charlie Kirk stood for what he believed in and entered himself into the fight, but more powerfully, he encouraged others to do the same.&#8221;
Shlomi admired the way Kirk stood up against &#8220;wokeism.&#8221;
&#8220;I see kids who are happy, and as they get older, they&#8217;re unhappy because they&#8217;re being subjected to wokeism.&#8221;
Shlomi thinks social media algorithms play a big role in that wokeism, something he vows to change if elected.
&#8220;Google, YouTube, and all social media companies need their codes to be open source,&#8221; Shlomi said. &#8220;The algorithms need to be fair and transparent, not biased. Google and YouTube suppress conservative views on [their] platforms and discriminate [against] anything that ridicules their woke ideology.&#8221;

The 61-year-old is running against incumbent John Carter, as well as five other candidates looking to represent Texas&#8217; 31st District, which covers parts of Austin, Temple, and Fort Hood.
Shlomi&#8217;s campaign slogan is &#8220;Soak the Swamp.&#8221; An ode to ShamWow, the super-absorbent cleaning cloth that Shlomi made a name selling. The ShamWow commercials played throughout the early 2000s.
&#8220;I mean, I took a rag and made millions.&#8221;
The entrepreneur said his &#8220;rags to riches&#8221; experience with ShamWow makes him a natural fit for Congress.
&#8220;I am a great salesman, they say I&#8217;m the GOAT at pitching. I should be a Congressman, pitching bills that improve the Texas 31st constituents&#8217; lives. I&#8217;m not a polished politician, but I wasn&#8217;t polished when I was the pitchman either &#8212; and that&#8217;s why you loved me.&#8221;
His reputation needed a ShamWow cleanup after an incident with an alleged hooker in Miami back in 2009.
Shlomi was arrested for aggravated battery after getting into a fight with a woman at a Miami hotel. Per an <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/businessmain/shamwow-guy-cleans-his-act-8c11094914">NBC News report</a>, Shlomi struck the woman with his fists after she bit his tongue and wouldn&#8217;t let go. Prosecutors didn&#8217;t press charges.
&#8220;I was defending myself, and the public needs to know that,&#8221; Shlomi said. &#8220;It turned into a comedic story and sparked tons of rumors. I own up to the fact that I shouldn&#8217;t have put myself there.&#8221;
ShamWow Shlomi has a year to wipe out his competition for Congress. Election Day is in November 2026.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested that Republicans should end the filibuster if the Democrats attempt to once again shut down the government in January.
Speaking with Kristen Welker of NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Bessent was asked about the viability of ending the filibuster.
“You call for an end to the filibuster. In the past, leader Thune has said that it&#8217;s just not happening. There aren&#8217;t the votes. Mr. Secretary, do you believe that you have enough votes, that the president has enough votes to get rid of the filibuster?” Welker asked.
Bessent responded, saying that his editorial, which was published in The Washington Post on Sunday, was designed to “put the Senate on notice.”
“The Democrats kept the government shut down — and Ezra Klein in The New York Times took the mask off. He said this wasn&#8217;t about health care; this was about stopping totalitarianism. The Democrats haven&#8217;t been able to stop President Trump in the courts; they haven&#8217;t been able to stop him in the media, so they had to harm the American people — 1.5% hit to GDP, $11 billion permanent hit. They don&#8217;t care. So I believe that Senate Democrats, if Senate Democrats close the government again, Senate Republicans should immediately abrogate the filibuster,” the Treasury secretary stated.

“Some Republicans hesitate to end the filibuster out of fear that Democrats will one day use that same power against them,” Bessent noted. “But Democrats will use that power against them whether Republicans end the filibuster or not. GOP senators who defend the filibuster are ignoring basic game theory. As the classic prisoner’s dilemma shows us, in a repeated game, the player who always cooperates while the opponent who always betrays is doomed to lose.”

Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher predicted on Friday that New York City&#8217;s mayor-elect — who identifies as a Democratic socialist — may be &#8220;the future of the party,&#8221; just not the party most people might think.
Maher argued that Mamdani, who ran for office and was elected as a Democrat, would likely promote policies that would ultimately do more to boost the Republican Party than the Democratic Party.

&#8220;New rule,&#8221; Maher began. &#8220;Democrats must recognize that Zohran Mamdani is the future of the party — unfortunately, it&#8217;s the Republican Party.&#8221;
There was a long pause then, followed by uncomfortable laughter.
&#8220;Get it?&#8221; Maher asked, and the laughs picked up volume. &#8220;And if you missed his victory speech in last week&#8217;s mayoral election in New York, don&#8217;t worry: you&#8217;ll see it in every attack ad for the next two years.&#8221;
Maher went on to say that he did not have any personal beef with the democratic socialist — but he wasn&#8217;t so keen on joining his party in its increasingly-rapid slide into the full-on embrace of socialism, and he didn&#8217;t see it succeeding in the United States.
&#8220;But before the whole left side of the country catches socialism fever, let&#8217;s listen to the other big winner in last Tuesday&#8217;s election, Virginia Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger — who, before the &#8217;24 election, said things like, &#8216;If the party didn&#8217;t shift to the center, we will get f***ing torn apart,'&#8221; Maher continued. &#8220;And, &#8216;We need to never use the word socialist or socialism ever again.&#8217; Well, she was right, but they didn&#8217;t listen. Typical. Am I right, ladies?&#8221;
Maher then pointed out that the younger generations felt like they&#8217;d been failed by capitalism. &#8220;They&#8217;re quiet-quitting capitalism and texting socialism that they&#8217;re &#8216;down to f***.&#8217; The thing is, socialism will f*** you because socialism, to put it simply, just doesn&#8217;t work and has never worked. Like Kevin Federline.&#8221;
&#8220;I know the kids think that stuff that happened before their appearance on the planet didn&#8217;t really happen, but it did,&#8221; Maher added, referencing the failures and accompanying death toll of socialism. &#8220;We&#8217;ve run this experiment many times, and the results are always obvious.&#8221;
The results, he explained by citing Venezuela as an example, were almost always the same: wealthy, developed nations rapidly descending into chaos and widespread poverty.
&#8220;If you think New York can somehow reinvent this wheel, you&#8217;re in for a rude awokening,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Zohran can&#8217;t make your wishes come true. You&#8217;re thinking of Zoltar. Democratic socialism is like a dating profile: things look great until you meet up in the real world.&#8221;

New Jersey GOP gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciattarelli got the &#8220;surprise of a lifetime&#8221; Monday when his son, Capt. Jake Ciattarelli, flew home after serving eight months overseas just in time for Election Day.
&#8220;The surprise of a lifetime,&#8221; Ciattarelli wrote on X. &#8220;Grateful to have all four kids home and feeling great heading into Election Day!&#8221;
Ciattarelli couldn&#8217;t believe his eyes when his son walked into the GOP campaign event at a tavern in New Jersey. In the video posted on X, Ciattarelli put his hands over his head in shock after seeing his son, who is proudly serving in the U.S. Army in Kuwait. In an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/flipping-new-jersey-red-jack-ciattarelli-s-final-pitch-member-exclusive?elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+Show+Episodes+Carousel">interview</a> with Cabot Phillips on Morning Wire that aired on Sunday, Ciattarelli said people want change across New Jersey.
&#8220;They are very frustrated with Phil Murphy&#8217;s failed policies,&#8221; Ciattarelli said.
Ciattarelli added that he wants to bring back law and order to the state.
&#8220;Let&#8217;s make it clear, anyone who engages in criminal activity in New Jersey, no matter what it is there&#8217;s going to be a consequence,&#8221; Ciattarelli said. &#8220;We are going to have public safety here in New Jersey.&#8221;
And the GOP nominee made it clear there will be no sanctuary cities under his leadership.
&#8220;We will not be a sanctuary state,&#8221; Ciattarelli said. &#8220;I&#8217;m reversing that policy on day one.&#8221;
Ciattarelli also told Morning Wire that he would bring change to New Jersey schools by getting rid of the LGBTQ+ curriculum that the current administration allows.
&#8220;You will get a whole new state board of education when I&#8217;m governor,&#8221; Ciattarelli said.
Ciattarelli also said New Jersey is over the tax increases, the housing market, and the state&#8217;s overspending, just to name a few issues. He added that people are getting hit in their pocketbook, especially when it comes to electric bills, and he plans to attack head-on.
The New Jersey governor election is on November 4, 2025. The polls open at 6 a.m. ET Tuesday.

Jack Ciattarelli’s Army Son Gives Him ‘The Surprise Of A Lifetime’ Ahead Of Election Day

This summer marked the end of an era in American Christianity. Within weeks of each other, pastor John MacArthur and psychologist James Dobson, two of the most influential evangelical leaders of the past half-century, passed away. MacArthur died on July 14 at the age of 86, followed by his friend Dobson on August 21 at 89. Their distinct but complementary approaches to faith and culture reshaped churches, families, and politics in profound ways.
Both men launched their ministries into the national spotlight in 1977, debuting radio programs at a time when evangelical broadcasting was entering a golden age. MacArthur’s verse-by-verse exposition of Scripture with &#8220;Grace to You&#8221; and Dobson’s biblical counsel on marriage and parenting with &#8220;Focus on the Family&#8221; would eventually reach tens of millions of households across the globe.
Troy Miller, president of the National Religious Broadcasters, told The Daily Wire that both men not only mastered radio but also foresaw the digital transition. “They were pioneers in adopting MP3s, moving into podcasts, and building digital platforms,” Miller said. “Grace to You and Focus on the Family became models for how to keep Christian teaching at the center of new technologies. And part of the legacy that these two men are going to leave was their insistence on being quality communicators, whatever the medium. Both of them worked very hard at their communication skills, whether it be preaching, speaking at conferences, or on the radio. They set the bar.”
<h3>Two Vocations, One Foundation</h3>
Although their ministries often intersected, MacArthur and Dobson took distinct paths to engaging culture. While the two men held the same positions on life, marriage, and sexuality, MacArthur avoided joining political coalitions, famously declining to sign the Manhattan Declaration, a 2009 statement that affirmed the sanctity of life and traditional marriage, because of his doctrinal differences with some of the statement’s authors.
Dobson, in contrast, leaned into politics. Not only was he one of the Manhattan Declaration’s most prominent signatories, in 1995, he also founded the Family Research Council, a Washington-based policy group that quickly became a central voice in the religious right.
Miller said the difference came down to vocation, not conviction. “John MacArthur understood he was a pastor,” he said. “That was his primary calling in life. And as a shepherd, his deepest desire was for people to understand the Word of God better. His expository preaching and teaching, his commentaries, his books were all meant to bring people closer to God. Dr. Dobson understood he was a psychologist. So he was concerned about culture and where culture was headed as a psychologist. They took these two different approaches, but behind both of them was a biblical foundation.”
Grace to You executive director Phil Johnson, who worked closely with MacArthur for more than 40 years, echoed that assessment. “John was always clear that he wasn’t opposed to political involvement by Christians and that there are Christians who are called to all sorts of vocations, including politics.” 
Dobson used his political vocation to tremendous effect.
Political science professor Hunter Baker, who first met Dobson while working as a religious liberty lobbyist, pointed out that by the late 1990s, the radio host had begun to eclipse the influence of the Moral Majority’s Jerry Falwell and the Christian Coalition’s Pat Robertson, in part, due to his academic credentials.
“Robertson and Falwell were essentially televangelists, and they had their influence. But then comes James Dobson. And a lot of people don&#8217;t remember this, but Dobson had an appointment at the USC Medical School as a child psychologist. He was there for 14 years in a very prestigious sort of position.” That credibility allowed Dobson to gain a hearing with audiences that would be less likely to tune into Robertson’s 700 Club or Falwell’s Old-Time Gospel Hour.
After he grew Focus on the Family into a cultural juggernaut, his mobilization of his Christian listeners helped secure the Republican Party’s transformation into a staunchly pro-life party.
“People want to think the Republican Party has always been this great pro-life party,” Baker said, “but Ronald Reagan was really the first one to decisively move in that direction. Yet his advisors were constantly wanting him to take pro-life rhetoric out of his speeches. And so that&#8217;s the Republican Party that Dobson was dealing with in the 90s. And in the late 1990s, Dobson, in his frustration, said, ‘I&#8217;m going to leave this party and I&#8217;m going to take as many people with me as I can.’ That was a threat that could not be ignored.”

After Dobson took his stand, Baker said, the GOP was forced to commit to the sanctity of life as a key issue. “I would argue that was really decisive. In 2008, even though he was the tremendously popular former mayor of New York City and viewed as a hero of 9/11, Rudy Giuliani got nowhere in that Republican primary process. Why? Because he would not become pro-life in order to run. Then, in 2012, Mitt Romney, who had previously been pro-choice, ran as a pro-life Republican. And I really put all of that at the feet of James Dobson more than anybody else.”
In 2016, Dobson would endorse Donald Trump at a time when few Christian leaders were willing to, helping to shore up Trump’s evangelical support that was vital to winning the election.
<h3>Standing Firm in Cultural Storms</h3>
Though MacArthur resisted joining formal political movements, when politics encroached on the church, he, too, did not hesitate to take a stand.
In 2018, when social justice and critical theory were infiltrating churches and ministries, MacArthur, just as he’d done when he publicly opposed segregation in the 1960s, spoke out. At the time, many nationally known pastors were <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/black-lives-matter-southern-baptist">promoting</a> Black Lives Matter and its <a href="https://x.com/JonathanLeeman/status/1269646035095375874">mission</a>. MacArthur, in contrast, <a href="https://statementonsocialjustice.com/">joined a statement</a> against the Marxist ideology the movement is based on, explicitly rejecting “any teaching that encourages racial groups to view themselves as privileged oppressors or entitled victims of oppression.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he <a href="https://www.gracechurch.org/news/posts/2254">openly defied</a> California’s restrictions on in-person worship, telling his congregation, “Whatever this virus is, it does not overpower First Amendment rights.” One of his final public acts came in 2022 when he sent a <a href="https://www.gty.org/blogs/B220928/an-open-letter-to-governor-newsom">scathing letter</a> to Governor Gavin Newsom addressing his use of Scripture to promote abortion:
<blockquote>[Y]ou revealed to the entire nation how thoroughly rebellious against God you are when you sponsored billboards across America promoting the slaughter of children, whom He creates in the womb (Psalm 139:13–16; Isaiah 45:9–12). You further compounded the wickedness of that murderous campaign with a reprehensible act of gross blasphemy, quoting the very words of Jesus from Mark 12:31 as if you could somehow twist His meaning and arrogate His name in favor of butchering unborn infants. You used the name and the words of Christ to promote the credo of Molech (Leviticus 20:1–5). It would be hard to imagine a greater sacrilege… My concern, Governor Newsom, is that your own soul lies in grave, eternal peril.</blockquote>
Johnson said both stances were consistent with MacArthur’s lifelong approach. “He believed the church must keep its focus on the gospel. And the letter to Newsom is a classic example of that because though he&#8217;s addressing a political leader, like John the Baptist did, with a very strong &#8230; gospel appeal.”
<h3>Generational Impact</h3>
Perhaps the clearest measure of MacArthur and Dobson’s legacies lies in the generations they shaped.
MacArthur’s influence can be seen in pulpits across the country. Thousands of pastors trained at the school he founded, The Master’s Seminary, or influenced by his preaching, now carry forward his model of expository preaching. Johnson shared that in his hometown of Tulsa, he once struggled to identify churches that offered sound, biblical preaching. Today, he said, he can point to many who trace their roots to MacArthur’s ministry. “All of them are connected somehow to John MacArthur. And that&#8217;s just one city. I think the whole country has benefited from the men who&#8217;ve been sent out from Master’s Seminary and men who&#8217;ve been influenced by people who&#8217;ve been influenced by John MacArthur.”
Thirty-two-year-old Nashville pastor, Jonny Ardavanis, is one such man. He recalled MacArthur’s advice when asked how to “pick your battles.” MacArthur’s answer was simple: “I pick every battle where gospel clarity and biblical authority are at stake.” Ardavanis said that principle continues to guide his ministry, and he believes the many comparisons to Charles Spurgeon that poured out on social media at news of MacArthur’s death were apt.
“Spurgeon is known as the prince of preachers, and John MacArthur is known for championing the authority and the sufficiency and the inerrancy of God&#8217;s word. That&#8217;s one of the things that John MacArthur really pushed on to the next generation of preachers—open up the Word of God and let it speak. It&#8217;s living and active…Both fought off the liberal drift of their day. Spurgeon was known for the downgrade controversy, where, at the time, the union was drifting in regards to the inerrancy and authority of God&#8217;s word. He stood staunch against that. MacArthur was known for the lordship debate, saying ‘Hey, you can&#8217;t call Jesus your savior without calling him your Lord,’ meaning that it was a rejection of cheap grace. And so both were known for preaching, but for standing firm on issues of doctrinal clarity.”
For Dobson, too, controversy was the cost of conviction, with critics frequently accusing him of turning from family counseling to the culture war. But Baker rejects that assessment. “People say Dobson spoiled his legacy by getting political,” he said, “but what if the issue had been slavery or segregation? We wouldn’t fault someone for standing up against those. Dobson saw abortion in that same category—a fundamental issue of justice.”
As Phil Johnson put it, “[MacArthur and Dobson] were both trying to stand astride the progress of history and say, ‘Wait a minute.’ They saw that a lot of what passed for progress was actually destructive, and they weren’t afraid to fight it.”

<h3>A Shared Legacy</h3>
Since their deaths, many of MacArthur and Dobson’s listeners have expressed a measure of fear over what will happen to American Christianity now that the men they viewed as lions of the faith have gone. But Johnson feels that’s a failure to remember what both men taught.
“I understand,” he said, “because it seems like a string of men who we respect and trust, whose voices we want to hear have died. Yet I comfort myself with Christ&#8217;s words that he&#8217;s going to build his church and the gates of hell are not going to prevail against it. So he&#8217;ll raise up new voices and new people with new courage, people who actually are standing on the shoulders of these men. We lament the loss of their voices, but we also understand that all of them believed in the sovereignty of God, that they didn&#8217;t die by mistake, and that their time is in God&#8217;s hands and their shoes will be filled by someone who maybe we don&#8217;t even know yet that the Lord will raise up.”
Their voices may now be silent, but the pastors filling pulpits trained under MacArthur and the activists inspired by Dobson testify that their influence endures.

President Donald Trump&#8217;s White House touted a list of accomplishments aimed at aiding everyday Americans and announced that this Labor Day weekend, Republicans have officially become the party of working people.

White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers added, &#8220;President Trump believes that American workers are the heart and soul of our economy, which is why he’s championed an agenda that always puts them first — from signing the largest middle-class tax cuts in history to securing nearly $10 trillion in new investments to create high-paying jobs across our country. Under President Trump’s leadership, Republicans are once again the proud party of the American worker.&#8221;
The White House then listed a number of policies that had been designed to put American workers first and how they had already been implemented to make that happen.
&#8220;President Trump has already created half a million new jobs, with native-born workers accounting for ALL net jobs gains,&#8221; the statement said, adding &#8220;Hourly wages have risen, prices have come down and are holding steady, and consumer confidence is growing.&#8221;
In addition, the registration of nearly 2,000 new apprenticeship programs had opened doors for hundreds of thousands of American workers to learn new skills or improve upon those they had already learned — and the Trump administration has a stated goal of one million active apprenticeships in the near future. The Labor Department has also made it a priority to expand apprenticeship programs that are accessible to disabled veterans.
The Trump administration also touted the recent passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill and the removal of a number of regulations and small-business penalties, adding, &#8220;The Labor Department released 63 deregulatory actions to cut burdens, spur job creation, and fuel economic opportunity for American workers and businesses.&#8221;
As a final note, the White House said that new guidance had been laid out to make sure that &#8220;illegal immigrants are not allowed access to federal workforce development resources and related grants, protecting job training for American workers.&#8221;
The White House statement concluded by saying that the nearly $10 trillion in investments are &#8220;a direct result of President Trump remaking the global trading order and putting America First.&#8221;

&#8220;This weekend, Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio said that he thought JD Vance would be a great nominee,&#8221; Doocy said. &#8220;You could clear the entire Republican field right now. Do you agree that the heir-apparent to MAGA is JD Vance?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, I think most likely, in all fairness,&#8221; Trump replied. &#8220;He&#8217;s the vice president. I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form.&#8221;
The president, however, wasn&#8217;t ready to give a full-throated endorsement to Vance as the 2028 Republican nominee.

“Well, I think JD Vance would be a great nominee,” Rubio said. “And if you know, I think if he decides he wants to do that. And so, you know, and I think he’s doing a great job as vice president. He’s a close friend. And I hope he intends to do it.”
Rubio added that he wants to stay in his role as Secretary of State &#8220;as long as the president allows me to do it &#8230; which would keep me here all the way through January of 2028.&#8221;
Multiple people in the current Trump administration are viewed as potential contenders in a 2028 Republican primary, which would be the first presidential election cycle without Trump in the race since 2012.

Firebrand Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace launched her bid for South Carolina governor on Monday, joining what&#8217;s quickly becoming a crowded field in the Palmetto State.
Mace joins Rep. Ralph Norman, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, and state senator Josh Kimbrell in the 2026 Republican primary. The congresswoman addressed her supporters at an early morning rally at her alma mater, The Citadel military college, where she announced her run for governor.
&#8220;I&#8217;m running for governor because South Carolina doesn&#8217;t need another empty suit. It needs a governor who will fight for you and your values,&#8221; Mace <a href="https://x.com/NancyMace/status/1952330227755172211">said</a>. &#8220;South Carolina needs a governor who will drag the truth into sunlight and flip the tables if that&#8217;s what it takes.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;ve walked into firestorms, and I&#8217;ve come out swinging,&#8221; she added.
Incumbent South Carolina Republican Gov. Henry McMaster, who has served since 2017,  will be term-limited from running again in the November 2026 election.
In a video Mace posted on X Monday morning, the Republican emphasized how she has drawn the ire of both Democrats and Republicans and showed clips of President Donald Trump praising her in the past.
&#8220;When she sets her sight on something, she&#8217;s tough,&#8221; Trump said of Mace.

The relationship between the 47-year-old congresswoman and Trump, however, has been rocky. In 2022, Trump <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3523340-mace-defeats-trump-backed-primary-challenger-in-south-carolina/">endorsed</a> Mace&#8217;s primary opponent, Katie Arrington, after Mace <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/07/politics/trump-hill-republicans-move-on/index.html">said</a> that Trump&#8217;s &#8220;entire legacy was wiped out&#8221; following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Mace came out on top in the 2022 primary and secured a second term in the House. She won again in 2024 and is currently serving her third term.
Mace has focused much of her attention on fighting to keep trans-identifying men out of women&#8217;s bathrooms. She recently got in a fight over women&#8217;s bathrooms with Delaware Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride, a man who identifies as a woman. Shortly after McBride was elected, Mace introduced a resolution banning men from women&#8217;s facilities in Congress. Mace is well-known on Capitol Hill for her self-assertive nature and her knack for diving into the middle of controversy.
Earlier this year, Mace made headlines when she shared what she called a &#8220;naked silhouette&#8221; of herself during a House subcommittee hearing. Mace shared the photo while addressing the subject of “Breach of Trust: Surveillance in Private Spaces.” She alleged that the image was captured without her consent, accusing four men of sexual abuse. The men, one of whom is her ex-fiance, have denied any wrongdoing.
“I would run through a brick wall to protect women and girls in South Carolina and to other potential victims, I want you to know I have your back,&#8221; Mace said during the hearing.
