‘Biden Failed To Do His Job:’ Governor Of State Bordering Canada Explains Why He Turned His Attention To The Southern Border

EAGLE PASS, TX — Montana Governor Greg Gianforte says President Joe Biden has failed to do his job as president when it comes to the border, leaving both Texas and the rest of the country to deal with the consequences.

Gianforte, who represents one of the northernmost states in the country, said distance from the southern border doesn’t matter anymore. He’s traveled to the southern border four times, and says the influx of illegal immigrants and drugs from Mexico has a real impact on Montana.

“We’ve been able to shut down Montana Meth, but now we have Mexican Meth in Montana along with the fentanyl,” Gianforte told The Daily Wire yards away from the Rio Grande, after a tour of the border with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and twelve other governors. “It’s breaking up families, it’s increasing violent crime and we need to secure our border and put it to an end.”

Gianforte lambasted Biden for his failure to do his job on the border, and said the president has the tools to restore order immediately without any new legislation in Congress, where a bipartisan immigration compromise bill appears to be headed for defeat.

“I think we got here because Joe Biden failed to do his job as president,” Gianforte said. “He has the ability right here today to reinstate the remain in Mexico policy, to continue building the wall, to enforce laws that are already on the books.”

“Joe Biden doesn’t need Congress, he’s telling people he does but he doesn’t,” he added. “He has the ability right now to make the changes that are necessary to help secure the border.”

Against the backdrop of a border crisis marked by over 10 million illegal immigrants crossing since Biden assumed office in 2021, Republican governors across the country have voiced support for Abbott’s decision to take matters into his own hands to secure Texas’s border with Mexico. The governors argue that every state is now a border state, and Texas shouldn’t bear sole responsibility for doing the job the Biden administration has neglected.

“Governor Abbott has been stepping up where the federal government is dropping their duty, so states are coming together, working together, to help do the job of the federal government until they decide to do it,” Gianforte said.

Gianforte said Abbott’s success in lowering the number of crosses in the Eagle Pass area from thousands to single digits should be an example for steps that can be taken to end the border crisis.

“They have virtually shut down crossings here in Eagle Pass,” Gianforte said after a tour of a border detention center that just weeks ago was flooded with thousans of migrants. “In the last couple of weeks, since they’ve taken the actions here to secure the border, they’ve had single digit crossings each day.”

Texas authorities denied a request from the Biden administration to hand over control of the park to Border Patrol, with the Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety instead maintaining control and even reinforcing existing border barriers with additional razor wire.
