Beto O’Rourke, who failed to win the Democratic Party’s nomination as presidential candidate in 2020 and failed to beat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a 2018 Senate race, immediately described the policy as “A death warrant for Texans.”
“Add them to the 44,000+ killed as he failed to confront the pandemic &amp; botched the vaccine rollout,” O’Rourke continued. “And those who froze to death because he cares more about energy companies’ profits than keeping Texans alive.”
“Abbott is killing the people of Texas,” O’Rourke claimed.

In addition, the Texas governor “issued an executive order on Tuesday that will ban local governments and schools from requiring face masks,” as reported by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-bans-mask-mandates-for-local-governments-and-public-schools">The Daily Wire</a>.
“The Lone Star state continues to defeat COVID-19 through the use of widely-available vaccines, antibody therapeutic drugs, and safe practices utilized by Texans in our communities,” Abbott said in a <a href="https://twitter.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1394730325612404741?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1394730325612404741%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https://thehill.com/regulation/legislation/554171-texas-governor-bans-local-governments-schools-from-requiring-face">press release</a>. “Texans, not government, should decide their best health practices, which is why masks will not be mandated by public school districts or government entities.”
Critics of O’Rourke were quick to mock his absurd and inaccurate claims that Abbott’s reopening of Texas would be a “death warrant.”
