Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro, referring to English singer Sam Smith, who has described himself as non-binary, said after Smith’s lates public foray, that Smith “wins votes for Donald Trump.”
On “The Ben Shapiro Show” Monday, Shapiro began, “I don’t know what the hell is going on with Sam Smith, but it’s something that doesn’t need to be happening publicly. Smith was somehow invited to walk the runway at something called the Vivienne Westwood Fall 2024 show.”
“I don’t know who designed this outfit; it looks like a refugee from a cross between Mad Max and Braveheart who is gender confused,” Shapiro quipped. “He wore a wig that covers half his head. He is wearing a what looks like almost a Speedo onesie that is plaid and a sort of Scottish female jacket, plaid socks that are like knee highs and some lady boots.”

“It’s really quite horrifying,” he continued. “From the chrysalis of Western culture, final version of Leftist man has now emerged. This leftist butterfly has now emerged. Sam Smith used to be a normal looking gay dude. And then it turns out that he was gender nonbinary or gender queer or whatever it is that he calls himself now. And he actually just looks like a freak show at this point. There’s no other way to put it. Again, he looks like if if Braveheart had a baby with Mad Max had a baby with a with a Judith Butler book, that’s what Sam Smith looks like.”
Shapiro then turned to popular culture: “And yet somehow this is considered high fashion in high art. We’re living in The Hunger Games at this point. Why this person is considered a pop cultural icon is beyond me. But again, the people who define our culture are not people who have any interest in the normal American. Sam Smith wins votes for Donald Trump, because people look at this sort of stuff and they see the pop cultural arbiters being like, ‘Oh my God, isn’t that beautiful? Isn’t that what true beauty looks like.”
“This is ugly and bad and stupid,” Shapiro said. “But again, what we’re all supposed to believe that when a man dresses as a woman, this is some act of courage that is shattering gender barriers. Now, what this really is an attack on is the sex binary … Now we know here in the real world that actually sex is binary, but you know who apparently does not know that? A huge percentage of scientists.”
He quoted the UK Telegraph referencing a poll of 200 scientists at UK universities, in which only 58% said they believed sex was binary.
“Those people are not scientists, they’re propagandists and fools,” he declared. “This means that 42% of scientists in the UK are not actual scientists. … People who have genetic issues, intersex people, does not invalidate the sex binary any more than people who are born with eight toes invalidates the general notion that people have ten toes.
“Gender is a crap term that means nothing,” he continued. “That’s the actual answer. If we just mean people behave in certain ways and that there are categories like masculine and feminine, then of course it’s binary because otherwise there would be no poles within which to work. You say that people have characteristics that seem like the other sex? That does not again invalidate the fact that there is masculine and feminine, because once you obliterate those categories, there is no purpose to the term at all. Then everybody has their own gender. You don’t actually need to define the term gender at all. There’s no internal logic to it.”
“Scientists can be pressured into anything, as we found out during COVID, as we’ve found out repeatedly with regard to transgenderism,” he stated. “No other community has done itself more damage than the scientific community over the course of the last 20 years. The one thing we used to all agree on in about 2004 was that the scientists kind of knew what they were doing, and that’s been completely destroyed. So thanks for that, guys.”
