Last Thursday, the White House hosted a state dinner celebrating America’s storied history with France featuring a swath of Democratic and Republican politicians and capitalist “stakeholders” — as the Klaus Schwab crowd likes to say — toasting to transatlantic friendship.
In reaction to the soiree, historian and advisor to President Joe Biden Michael Beschloss tweeted, “Biden state dinner tonight is impressively bipartisan — seems like old times.”

One can only assume he meant in the pre-Trump era which featured less gridlock and a managed decline of the nation in a unified fashion.
Outside the White House affair and throughout the Beltway, Beschloss is right in his assessment.
Unfortunately, it is not just the dinner leftovers that reek of “Uniparty” stench. It seems all of D.C. is hellbent on passing bills agreed upon by both parties — which is bad news for Americans.
For example, following midterm elections, the Senate immediately passed the “Respect for Marriage Act” with 12 Republicans lending their support to the legislation — religious conservatives be damned. Experts predict that the codified language, should it be signed into law, will allow religious zealots on the left — true believers in the neverending saga of radical gender theory and limitless sexual orientations — to attack religious Americans on the right in near perpetuity.
Then, on Monday The Washington Post reported that Republicans and Democrats are marching hand-in-hand toward amnesty for illegal aliens. In exchange for allowing 2 million “dreamers” to stay in the country, the Left has promised to finally crack down on crime at the border and beef up security.
“Sen. Thom Tillis and Kyrsten Sinema have reached a deal on a framework of immigration reforms,” Greg Sargent of Wapo tweeted.
The high-level details include protections for 2 million Dreamers, new resources to speed processing asylum seekers, and fast removal of migrants who don’t qualify, according to Sargent.
If that sounds familiar it is because the GOP fell for that same line in 1986. Republican President Ronald Reagan signed amnesty into law, allowing millions of rulebreakers to stay in the country. A secure border never came.
Nearly 40 years later, it would appear that Republicans still have not learned their lesson.
According to WaPo’s sources, “10 GOP senators are gettable for these reforms, mostly Republicans who are retiring or are willing to challenge the GOP’s Trump wing.”
Sargent, in true lapdog media fashion, he wondered, “Will Republicans support something that *actually* would bring more order to the border?”
As former senior advisor to President Donald Trump explained, “This is open borders propaganda, not journalism.”

Miller is right. Repeatedly in history, confusing messages about amnesty have fueled illegal immigration surges.
Illegal aliens, alongside those who profit from illegal immigration, figure that they can sneak into the country before the border is closed off as promised. They then hope to finagle their way into winning the immigration lottery — skipping over legal immigrants and being granted U.S. citizenship thanks to folks like Biden. That translates into votes for Democrats.
Democrats know that, which is why they don’t actually secure the border. It’s also why they continuously push for more and more of their legislative agenda.
Schumer, one of the chief architects of the 1986 law, recently demanded that every single illegal immigrant in the U.S. be granted citizenship.
“Now more than ever, we’re short of workers. We have a population that is not reproducing on its own with the same level that it used to,” the Senate Majority Leader said in mid-November. “The only way we’re going to have a great future in America is if we welcome and embrace immigrants — the DREAMers and all of them — cause our ultimate goal is to help the DREAMers but get a path to citizenship for all 11 million, or however many undocumented there are here.”
That is a pretty remarkable statement when you step back and think about it. The “only way” America will have a “great future” is if we reward individuals whose first act was violating our laws. That doesn’t exactly fill one with confidence that our elected leaders are thinking about American families.
Schumer’s comment didn’t get much attention from GOP leadership — and perhaps that is because they agree with the Democrat leader.
Bipartisanship: The D.C. Swamp gets what it wants and America’s border, language, and culture suffer for it. Beschloss was right. “Old times” are back, what a shame.
