In an appearance on the Chicago Morning Takeover Show on 107.5 WGCI-FM, infamous anti-Semite and Leader of the Nation of Islam Louis Farrakhan made remarks in support of Donald Trump’s war against the media.
The nature of this administration is good for us because now you know. Sometimes you think where you’re not, and so Trump is letting you know where you really stand… [Trump] is an anomaly, there’s never been no president quite like Mr. Trump… I’m going to come out in a few weeks and talk about it, but Trump is destroying every enemy that was an enemy of our rise. Who is the enemy of our rise? Is it the Department of Justice where we get none? Is it Congress where you make a law that favors us and then you turn around and destroy it? Is it the media that has destroyed every black leader that has stood up or us calling us out of our name? Martin Luther King Jr. suffered it, Malcolm suffered it, Dubois suffered it, Marcus Garvey suffered it. So he’s attacking the media, calls it fake news. Well, I don’t think everything is fake, but I know very well that we have been victims of some fake news. He’s beating up the FBI. Go at it baby, because they’ve been beating the hell out of us ever since the hoover and the counter intel program of the us government. So, go ahead, Mr. Trump.
As he’s made quite clear, Trump is waging a war with the left-leaning mainstream media and he is convinced that there are nefarious actors within the so-called “deep state” whose sole purpose is to undermine his agenda. Farrakhan has failed to accept universal truths in the past (namely that all people are equal and violence is bad), which is alarming to all, but what should most concern conservatives is any hint from the Right in praise of Farrakhan for his apparent “MAGA” turn.
If the president or his die-hard supporters were to backpedal even a step on Farrakhan, they would be doing themselves and other conservatives a massive disservice as primary season enters into full swing. After a year of low approval ratings, the president’s ratings are gradually increasing into the mid-40s because the American public is starting to judge Trump on his actions, not his words. Any pro-Farrakhan rhetoric — even a hint of it — would erase this progress.
But more importantly, if any pro-Farrakhan sentiment were to actualize on the Right, it would illuminate something very telling about the populist-conservative movement in the post-Bill Clinton years. More often than not, conservatives operate with a moral compass, and have had a strong desire for our government and its officials to mirror those values. However, for some on the Right, when the disgusting impropriety of Clinton failed to end his career, all bets were off. Nearly 20 years later, this sect of the Right would rally behind the banner of “MAGA” with Trump as their leader.
Farrakhan hates the media and the FBI for reasons that are not reconcilable to the conservative cause. Frustrations from the Right stem from the desire to preserve the sanctity of the nation our founding fathers built by rooting out corruption with the government and media. Farrakhan hates these institutions because he hates America and all that it stands for.
The media’s willingness to advocate for anyone willing to resist Trump is what makes it fake. “Fake news” stories, whether it be the s***hole scandal or sticking up for MS-13 “animals,” proves their moral bankruptcy and gives Trump leverage.
I cannot possibly think of a better, faster way to delegitimize Trump’s position than cheering Farrakhan’s pro-Trump comments when just weeks ago the Right utilized Farrakhan to correctly label some of the leaders of the Women’s March as anti-Semitic.
