‘Apparent Errors’ Found In Battle Ground State Voter Rolls

North Carolina’s voter rolls contain more than 1,200 potentially “duplicated” registration records, according to a review by the conservative Public Interest Legal Foundation. 

The group notified the North Carolina State Board of Elections on Tuesday of its findings after reviewing voter rolls in the state’s 10 most populous counties. It said the flagged records shared a birth year and address with another registration. 

“We have identified apparent errors on the North Carolina voter roll that need your attention,” Logan Churchwell, the group’s research director, wrote in a letter obtained by The Daily Wire. “We request you immediately investigate the duplicated registration records identified by the Foundation and implement a pollbook verification system to confirm which record is accurate, should the affected registrant appear in the polls this coming election.”

Half of the potentially duplicate registrations were in Guilford and Cumberland counties, according to the group. 

Churchwell wrote that the apparent duplicates likely resulted from variations in name spellings, nicknames, typographical errors, or confusion over married names. 

The foundation requested an official response from the Board of Elections by October 13 and warned that it would file a Help America Vote Act complaint if the board failed to address the alleged duplicates. 

The group sent a similar letter last year but said North Carolina has since substantially improved the accuracy of its voter rolls. 

“While preparing this letter, we saw clear evidence of the board’s progress in cleaning up North Carolina’s voter rolls. Comparing current records with past rolls shows the impact of the state’s voter-list maintenance reforms. This letter is intended to help the board finish that work,” Churchwell told The Daily Wire. 

“The goal is to help North Carolina complete the job, move one step closer to ensuring one person, one vote, and have their voter rolls squared away before Election Day in November,” he added. 

The Daily Wire reached out to the Board of Elections but did not receive an immediate response.
