As The Daily Wire reported back in February, socialist congresswoman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) harrowing capitulation to enviro-statist radicalism known as the “Green New Deal” was calculated, by conservative-leaning economist Douglas Holtz-Eakin, to cost somewhere between $51 trillion and $93 trillion over the course of a decade:
Bloomberg reports that Ocasio-Cortez’s far-left plan would “tally between $51 trillion and $93 trillion over 10-years, concludes American Action Forum, which is run by Douglas Holtz-Eakin, who directed the non-partisan CBO from 2003 to 2005.”
The enormous price tag, which amounts to over $650,000 per U.S. household, covers a low-carbon electricity grid, net zero emissions transportation system, guaranteed jobs, universal health care, guaranteed green housing, and food security.
“The Green New Deal is clearly very expensive,” the group noted in its analysis. “Its further expansion of the federal government’s role in some of the most basic decisions of daily life, however, would likely have a more lasting and damaging impact than its enormous price tag.”
To put that in perspective, the U.S. national debt — which tallies the collective debt that the nation has accumulated over the entire course of the republic’s history, to-date — presently stands at $22.4 trillion. Put another way, according to Holtz-Eakin’s calculations, the “Green New Deal” would single-handedly amount to somewhere roughly between a 300% to 500% increase in our national debt.
On Wednesday, The Hill reported that its Capitol Hill reporter asked Ocasio-Cortez to again produce a fiscal estimate of the cost of her plan. According to the outlet, Ocasio-Cortez claimed that the national investment would require $10 trillion — thus single-handedly increasing the national debt by roughly 50% — just “to have a shot”:
Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said Wednesday that any plan to sufficiently address the climate crisis will need to cost at least $10 trillion.
“I think we really need to get to $10 trillion to have a shot,” the progressive firebrand said in response to a question from The Hill in the Capitol.
“I know it’s a ton,” she added. “I don’t think anyone wants to spend that amount of money, it’s not a fun number to say, I’m not excited to say we need to spend $10 trillion on climate, but … it’s just the fact of the scenario.”
Ocasio-Cortez is a well-known climate alarmist who has previously warned that the Earth will end in 12 years if her socialist policy prescriptions are not enacted into law. As The Daily Wire reported last month, the freshman congresswoman was recently called out by a meteorologist for her failure to properly grasp the nuances of the global warming debate:

Ryan Maue, who has a Ph.D. in meteorology, quickly fact-checked Ocasio-Cortez, writing on Twitter: “I thought this was fake but it’s from [Ocasio-Cortez’s] Instagram story. No idea what she means with “casual tornadoes” and how this line of severe thunderstorms is proof of any ‘climate crisis.’ It’s just the weather in D.C.”
“The Congresswoman [Ocasio-Cortez] does not know the difference between weather and climate,” Maue added. “Let’s try an easy analogy: Weather is what outfit you wear heading out the door. Climate is your closet wardrobe.”
