Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to the rescue! In a video co-written by the New York representative and made in collaboration with The Intercept, Ocasio-Cortez hones-in a radical claim she’s fond of repeating about the world ending in 12 years if we don’t take drastic steps to reduce our carbon footprint, which can seemingly be done by way of her widely-panned “Green New Deal.”
The video, aptly titled “A Message From the Future with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,” takes us to a future where the humble Democrat’s plan has inspired action to save the planet.
“It’s often said you can’t be what you can’t see,” the congresswoman narrates, according to Teen Vogue. “I think there was something similar with the Green New Deal. We knew that we need to save the planet and that we had all the technology to do it, but people were scared. They said it was too big, too fast, not practical. I think that’s because they just couldn’t picture it yet.”
AOC takes predicable swings at the fossil fuel industry, “massive corporations,” and corrupt politicians, and suggests that the devastating 2017 hurricane that hit Puerto Rico, Hurricane Maria, was caused by man-made global warming. “It was like a climate bomb,” she says.
The congresswoman then warns that we have “twelve years to change everything” before “hundreds of millions of people would be more likely to face food and water shortages, poverty, and death.”
“Twelve years to change everything,” she narrates. “How we got around, how we fed ourselves, how we made our stuff, how we lived and worked — everything. The only way to do it was to transform our economy, which we already knew was broken.”
“It was a true turning point. Lots of people gave up. They said we were doomed,” the Democrat says, before launching us into a future where Democrats have taken back the White House and the Senate in 2020. This “launched the decade of the Green New Deal, a flurry of legislation that kicked off our social and ecological transformation to save the planet.”
“It was the kind of swing-for-the-fence ambition we needed. Finally, we were entertaining solutions on the scale of the crises we faced,” Ocasio-Cortez boasts.
In this sunny Green New Deal future, we also have medicare for all and federal high-paying jobs and good benefits. It’s unclear how we pay for it all, but Ocasio-Cortez tells us in the video that “the biggest problem in those early years was a labor shortage.”
At the end of the video, Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal has saved our planet and inspired a young girl from the Bronx named Ileana — “a true child of the Green New Deal” — to take over Ocasio-Cortez’s seat in Congress after running a publicly-funded campaign.
As reported by The Daily Wire in February, AOC’s Green New Deal is projected to cost a whopping $93 trillion — about $650,000 per U.S. household.
