President Donald Trump said Friday that he would like to set up a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin &#8220;as soon&#8221; as possible.
Trump made the comments in Abu Dhabi as he prepared to return home to the United States at the end of his Middle East tour. He had previously floated a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin in Turkey, but the Russian president refused to attend.
&#8220;They all said Putin was going and Zelensky was going. And I said, If I don&#8217;t go, I guarantee Putin is not going, and he didn&#8217;t go,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;And I understand that, but we&#8217;re going to get it we&#8217;re going to get it done. We&#8217;ve got to get it done. Five thousand young people are being killed every single week on average, and we&#8217;re going to get it done.&#8221;
While Ukrainian and Russian officials are meeting in Turkey on Friday, Trump said he believed he would have to meet with Putin to make real progress toward ending the war.
Trump said that he plans to meet Putin &#8220;as soon as we can get it set up,&#8221; noting that he had planned to meet with Putin and Zelensky after wrapping up his visit to the United Arab Emirates. He added that he wanted to go back to America to see his new grandson, whom his daughter, Tiffany, gave birth to on Thursday.
&#8220;I do want to see my beautiful grandson, a son, and we&#8217;ll be doing that, but I will, I will tell you that the world is a much safer place right now,&#8221; Trump told reporters. &#8220;And I think in two or three weeks we could have it be a much, much safer place. We&#8217;re going to handle a couple of situations that you have here. We have some very serious situations.”
Zelensky and Ukrainian negotiators are meeting in Istanbul with Putin&#8217;s representatives for talks supervised by Turkish Defense Minister Hakan Fidan. While it will be the first talks between the warring nations since 2022, American officials don&#8217;t expect much to come from the meeting.
&#8220;We don&#8217;t have high expectations of what will happen tomorrow. And frankly, at this point, I think it&#8217;s abundantly clear that the only way we&#8217;re going to have a breakthrough here is between President Trump and President Putin,&#8221; Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

After Putin Blows Off Peace Talks, Trump Gives Timeline For Meeting With Russian Prez

A former police officer was charged last week with leaking the writings of the transgender-identifying woman who murdered three children and three adults at the Covenant School in March 2023.
But retired Lt. Garet Davidson — who was arrested and jailed on May 6 — says that he&#8217;s innocent. Davidson claims he&#8217;s being retaliated against for a complaint he filed against the department criticizing its Covenant investigation in May 2024, four months after he retired.
Davidson&#8217;s May 2024 <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/17k--mes3tmiC54vjj0uiZ9NJTsc69cau/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> complaint</a> against the police department alleges numerous instances of misconduct by top police officials, including mismanagement of the Covenant investigation, a pattern of bias in disciplinary investigations, altering performance results for low-achieving recruits, avoiding accountability, and failure to follow sexual harassment policies.
Davidson&#8217;s legal team believes that the charges were brought in retaliation for his efforts to expose problems at the police department.
“The charges against retired MNPD Lieutenant Garet Davidson represent a transparent attempt to discredit and silence a whistleblower who exposed serious misconduct within the Metro Nashville Police Department,” Davidson’s legal team said. “We look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Davidson against these retaliatory charges.”
Davidson has <a href="https://tennesseestar.com/news/retired-mnpd-lt-garet-davidson-claims-fbi-told-nashville-police-not-to-release-documents-from-covenant-school-killer-audrey-elizabeth-hale-investigation-pointed-to-precedent-for-document-destruction/tpappert/2024/06/04/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">been outspoken</a> about the investigation into the Covenant shooting, telling conservative radio host Michael Patrick Leahy in June 2024 that the FBI sent a memo to police instructing them not to release any details of the attacker&#8217;s writings.
At the time, Davidson said that he had some concerns that there would be action taken against him based on the information he had shared about the FBI memo.
“I don’t put it beyond anybody,” he said. “Part of the reason why I left law enforcement was to avoid some aspects of retaliation, but that doesn’t guarantee anything.”
In the charges unveiled last week, Davidson is accused of being involved in the leak of the writings of the woman who entered the Covenant School, a Christian school in an affluent Nashville neighborhood, on March 27, 2023, and murdered six people before she was killed by police.
Following the attack, the police announced that the shooter had a &#8220;manifesto,&#8221; but refused to release it to the public. Despite that refusal, media outlets, including The Daily Wire, obtained portions and uncovered that the shooter wrote frequently of her desire to be a man and anger at her parents for resisting her so-called transition.
Prior to his arrest last week, Davidson had been linked to the police department&#8217;s investigation into the leak.
His home was raided by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in November 2024 in relation to the investigation into the leak. He faces two indictments: one charges him with theft, two counts of burglary, and 30 counts of official misconduct; the other charges him with six counts of official misconduct related to the Covenant School shooting.
The raid came after he was named in a June 2024 court filing on the leak, though he was not directly named as a leaker. That came just weeks after he filed a misconduct complaint against the police department, which included criticism of the Covenant investigation.
A GoFundMe Davidson set up to help with his legal expenses has been shut down. A spokesman for the platform told The Daily Wire that the fundraiser was removed because of its policies not to raise money for “the legal defense of financial and violent crimes, including those related to money laundering, murder, robbery, assault, battery, sex crimes or crimes against minors.”
The spokesman did not further elaborate on why the fundraiser had been shut down.

The report, released over two years after the attack, downplayed the attacker&#8217;s hatred of Christianity and fixation on gender ideology and &#8220;white privilege.&#8221;

Retired Cop Accused Of Leaking Covenant Shooter’s Diary Says He’s Being Set Up

President Donald Trump said Friday that former FBI Director James Comey knew what he was doing when he posted a picture on social media that was interpreted by many as a threat against his life.
Trump was responding to a picture Comey posted on Instagram showing seashells on a beach arranged to form the numbers “86” and “47” with the caption &#8220;cool shell formation on my walk.&#8221; Trump officials have initiated investigations into Comey, as &#8220;86&#8221; can be used as slang for killing someone, and Trump is the 47th president. Comey deleted the post, saying that he did not mean to imply that Trump should be killed and that he assumed the shells were a &#8220;political message.&#8221;
&#8220;He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant… that meant assassination,&#8221; Trump told Fox News in an interview. &#8220;And it says it loud and clear. Now he wasn’t very confident but he was confident enough to know what that meant.&#8221;

“He did it for a reason and he was hit so hard because people like me and they like what’s happening with our country,&#8221; Trump added. &#8220;Our country’s become respected again and all this. And he’s calling for the assassination of the president.”
When Fox News host Bret Baier asked what he would like to see happen to Comey, Trump said he would leave it up to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“I think it&#8217;s a terrible thing,” Trump said. “If he had a clean history, he doesn’t, he’s a dirty cop, he’s a dirty cop. And if he had a clean history, I could understand if there’s a leniency, but I’m going to let them make that decision.”
Comey removed the post after backlash, saying he was unaware of the association of &#8220;86&#8221; with violence.
“I posted a picture earlier of some shells I saw on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message,” Comey said. “I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.”

Trump survived two assassination attempts while campaigning last year, including one where a bullet struck him in the ear during a rally in Pennsylvania.

‘That Meant Assassination’: Trump Says Comey Knew ‘Exactly’ What ’86’ Post Implied

An elderly pro-life man who was brutally beaten outside of a Baltimore Planned Parenthood says he&#8217;ll keep fighting until his attacker is behind bars, even though the city is “dragging its feet” bringing him justice.
Nearly two years ago Mark Crosby, 75, was beaten alongside 86-year-old Richard Schaefer as they stood outside Planned Parenthood and urged women not to get abortions. Patrick Brice, their 28-year-old attacker, is set to be retried at the end of the month after he dodged a first-degree assault charge in March while being convicted of lesser assault charges. 
“They want us to get hurt again so we go away. But I’m not going away until this guy goes to jail,” Crosby told The Daily Wire. “I’m so prepared, I’m ready for battle, ready to win.”
Brice is set to be retried on May 28 for the first-degree assault charge that he dodged during his trial back in March. Crosby said he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-lifer-beaten-outside-of-planned-parenthood-surprised-after-no-verdict-on-key-charge">surprised</a> that the previous jury couldn’t come to a consensus because he saw them groaning and looking away while footage of the attack played. 
Footage released by the Baltimore Police Department <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDMYSWHJuNM&amp;rco=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shows</a> Brice tackling Schaefer into a potted plant after an argument outside Planned Parenthood. As Crosby ran up to assist Schaefer, Brice turned and shoved Crosby to the ground, punching him in the face before standing up and kicking him in the face before walking off. 
Crosby was treated after the attack for a fractured bone in his face, blindness in one eye, head and neck pain, two fractured fingers, and bruising on his arms and legs.
“We also want this [treated as] a hate crime because he ripped off my crucifix which was around my neck, it ended up in the bushes,” Crosby told The Daily Wire. “It was definitely a hate crime also, but these Baltimore City state attorneys are dragging their feet on everything.”
The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City told The Daily Wire that it does not comment on pending cases when reached for comment on if there were any plans to bring hate crime charges against Brice.
Crosby said that during the first trial, Brice’s lawyer accused the elderly pro-lifers of directing a racial slur at him, which he said helped to get the jury on his side. He said that he wasn’t allowed to respond to those allegations or point out that most of the babies they have saved over the years have been black. 
He also said the judge the first time around didn’t allow him to show his eye to the jurors. This time he said his representative plans to bring an eye doctor and a shock trauma doctor to testify about the extent of his injuries. 
Since the day of attack, Crosby and Schaefer have continued to return to the Planned Parenthood where Crosby says they have had their lives threatened numerous times. He says that he has contacted the police, but they tell him that the threats against him are protected speech.
Now, just days before Brice heads to trial again, Crosby is convinced that there is no &#8220;equal protection under the law in Baltimore City.&#8221;

Beaten Pro-Lifer Says Baltimore Is ‘Dragging Its Feet’ Bringing Him Justice

The Justice Department on Thursday asked the Supreme Court to rein in federal district court judges by restricting their ability to issue nationwide injunctions.
Solicitor General John Sauer asked the court to limit the scope of federal judges&#8217; ability to issue nationwide injunctions, saying the courts have overstepped the authority given to them in Article III of the Constitution. The case stems from three universal injunctions that were placed on an executive order from President Donald Trump directing his administration not to grant birthright citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants residing in the United States.
“It is a feature, not a bug of Article III, that courts grant relief to the people who sue in front of them,” Sauer said as he took questions from the justices. “So the notion that relief has to be given to the whole world because others who have not taken the time to sue are not before the courts is something that results in all of these problems.”
Sauer said that universal injunctions lead to “rampant forum shopping,” “require judges to make rushed, high-stakes low information decisions,” and “force government to win everywhere,” while those challenging the government only need to win at one court.  
In a press call on Tuesday, a Justice Department official noted that 35 of the 39 total universal injunctions issued against the Trump administration have come from the same five courts: the districts of Massachusetts, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Northern California, and Western Washington.
Justices largely focused on procedural questions and only touched lightly on whether Trump&#8217;s executive order on birthright citizenship was legal. The liberal wing of the court, including Justice Sonia Sotomayor, kept asserting that Trump&#8217;s actions to restrict birthright citizenship were unconstitutional.
Sotomayor also took issue with Sauer&#8217;s arguments that injunctions should only apply to the parties that specifically sued. She claimed that a president could hypothetically ban all guns, and each gun owner would then need to seek individual relief if the court were to take the Justice Department&#8217;s position.
On the other side, Justice Clarence Thomas, one of the most conservative members of the court, appeared very skeptical of universal injunctions in his questions.
“So we survived until the 1960s without universal injunctions?” Thomas asked Sauer. 
“That’s exactly correct,&#8221; the solicitor general replied. 
Justice Brett Kavanaugh also pushed Sauer to discuss how Trump&#8217;s executive order on birthright citizenship would be carried out. Sauer replied that the administration never got the opportunity to develop its framework because it was blocked just days after the order was issued.
Trump weighed in on the case from the Middle East, posting on Truth Social that birthright citizenship was meant for slaves, and not for &#8220;people pouring into our Country from all over South America, and the rest of the World.&#8221;
&#8220;Big case today in the United States Supreme Court. Birthright Citizenship was not meant for people taking vacations to become permanent Citizens of the United States of America, and bringing their families with them, all the time laughing at the &#8216;SUCKERS&#8217; that we are! The United States of America is the only Country in the World that does this, for what reason, nobody knows — But the drug cartels love it,&#8221; Trump wrote.

Supreme Court To Consider Taking Action Against Judges Blocking Trump Agenda

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Thursday that he was moving a historic painting of Jesus back to a “place of prominence” at the Merchant Marine Academy after the Biden administration relegated it to the basement, he told The Daily Wire. 
Duffy said in a video addressed to midshipmen that the World War II-era painting “Christ on the Water,” which depicts Jesus Christ appearing to sailors adrift at sea, would be returning to its original location at the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. The Biden administration moved the painting from its decades-old location to the basement in 2023 after a complaint that its presence violated the Constitution. 
“We are moving Jesus out of the basement. To all the great midshipmen at the Merchant Marine Academy, you let me know how important this painting was to all of you,&#8221; Duffy said in the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/H0WJQyB83JA?si=rnn8AtzLAifg94VN%22" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a>, which was shared with The Daily Wire. &#8220;Now, we all know it was taken out of a place of prominence and put in down in the basement.&#8221;
Duffy, whose Maritime Administration operates the academy, said he was working with leadership at the institution to facilitate the move.
“I worked with the Academy, and because this is such a historic painting, I’m announcing that through that work with the academy, this painting is going to go from the basement back to its place of prominence. It will be a moment to celebrate,” the devout Catholic said.

&#8220;Christ on the Water&#8221; was completed in 1944 by artist Hunter Wood, who joined the Coast Guard just 10 days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Wood saw action in North Africa before working on a Coast Guard Combat Artist Unit. In 1947, his painting was installed at the Merchant Marine Academy’s Wiley Hall Elliot See Room. It was displayed at that location for almost 80 years, when the Biden administration moved it because of a complaint from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.  
Duffy said that the painting will be returned to its original location the Elliot See Room. Last month, he received a vigorous round of applause from midshipmen at the Merchant Marine Academy after he called for they painting to be restore to its original location. 
“Can we bring Jesus up from the basement?” Duffy said. “Let’s not put Jesus in the basement! Let’s get Him out! Let’s bring Him up!”
Mikey Weinstein, of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, has promised to start &#8220;World War Eight&#8221; if the painting is moved, calling Duffy a &#8220;piece of s***&#8221; for advocating for the move. Weinstein claims that displaying the painting violates the Constitution and forces Christianity on students. 
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ted-cruz-backs-trump-officials-attempt-to-bring-jesus-up-from-the-basement-literally">sent a letter</a> last week to Duffy, praising him for the plans to move the painting and noting that there were no Constitutional reasons to keep the painting out of public view. Cruz said returning the painting would be an important step to protecting America&#8217;s religious heritage.
