Netflix has officially ordered a sequel to “Happy Gilmore,” one of Adam Sandler’s top comedies of all time.
The streaming giant told advertisers this week that it was moving forward with “Happy Gilmore 2”, starring Sandler.
“Happy Gilmore is back!” the company posted on X. “Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role in a brand new movie coming to Netflix.”
The Hollywood Reporter said that Sandler would return to his role from the 1996 film as a hockey player who discovered he could channel his rage into playing and winning golf tournaments.
The report said that the film is part of Netflix’s $250 million deal with the comedian, in which Sandler has already produced eight titles.

Christopher McDonald, who played the golfer Shooter McGavin in the original film, suggested earlier this year that his character might be back in the new movie.
“I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,'” McDonald said during an interview in March. “I said, ‘What? ‘ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.'”
“Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!” he added.
