Marvel star Jonathan Majors was sentenced to complete a 52-week domestic violence counseling program on Monday, avoiding prison time after being convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

Judge Michael Gaffey sentenced the 34-year-old actor to conditional discharge, noting that Majors had no prior criminal record and that both sides agreed the charges didn’t warrant jail time, the Associated Press reported.

Last year, a Manhattan jury found Majors guilty of two misdemeanor assault counts, the New York Times reported.

The judge said Majors must complete an in-person batterers intervention program and continue with mental health therapy. If he violates those terms, the actor could face a year behind bars. He was also ordered to have no contact with Jabbari, the AP noted.

Majors left the courtroom without speaking to the media. According to his attorney, Majors did not want to make a statement because of a pending civil suit Jabbari filed against him last month.

Jabbari claimed Majors demonstrated a “pattern of pervasive domestic abuse that began in 2021 and extended through 2023,” People magazine noted. His lawyer said, “This is no surprise. Mr. Majors is preparing counterclaims against Ms. Jabbari.”

Majors is “committed to growing as a person” and will complete any court-mandated programs “with an open heart,” Priya Chaudhry, his attorney, reportedly said.

In January, Majors spoke to ABC’s “Good Morning America” following the reckless assault conviction and said that he “felt like it was time” to tell his side of the story following the domestic dispute with Jabbari, adding that “a lot has happened” in his “personal life” and “career.”

Majors denied he physically assaulted Jabbari when asked if he was responsible for any of her injuries, a fractured finger and cut behind her ear.

“I was reckless with her heart, not with her body,” Majors replied. “I should have been brave. I should have said, ‘No, this isn’t working.’ And I should have walked away, and I didn’t…If I leave the relationship, none of this is happening.”

When pressed about how Jabbari got the injuries, Majors said he had no idea.

“I wish to God I knew,” Majors said. “That would give clarity. That would give me some type of peace about it. [I] never hit a woman. My hands have never struck a woman, ever.”
