The demand for greater representation in media is all the rage now, even though America has paid big dollars at the box office to reward dozens of movies headlined by people of color since the 1990s.
For some reason, though, leftists believe that every movie before “Black Panther” starred nothing but white people while black actors were relegated to the background. Somehow, they have forgotten the success of film franchises like “Blade,” “Rush Hour,” “Men In Black,” “Bad Boys,” and “Independence Day,” not to mention the litany of successful blockbusters headlined by the likes of Jamie Foxx, Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Will Smith, and a dozen others.
Now, a group called “Legally Black” is taking to the streets of England with newly-designed posters that replace white stars with black actors for classic films and franchises like Doctor Who, Titanic, and Harry Potter.
“If you are surprised it means you don’t see enough black people in major roles,” the group said.
“I’ve been racially abused since I was 12,” organizer Shiden Tekle told The Guardian. “And we are always looking at the media and never seeing any positive representations of black people.”
“In big films, black characters are often playing criminals and drug dealers, and that quickly conditions people to believe that all black people are like that,” he continued. “So, we decided to put black faces in the big movies, and challenge people’s perceptions and assumptions.”
The ultra-conservative movie “Black Panther” has passed $700 million worldwide.
