With a loud and unified voice, the feminists have collectively echoed the haunting words of Faye Dunaway in “Mommy Dearest” ahead of the SCOTUS vote — “No wire hangers.”
Now that Roe v. Wade is up for grabs thanks to Justice Kennedy’s retirement, the feminists have turned (quite misguidedly) to liberal GOP Senator Susan Collins to save them from President Trump’s SCOTUS pick. Per usual, they have resorted to theatrics and flooded the senator’s office with coat hangers — the universal pro-choice symbol warning against women undergoing back-alley abortions.
“Collins has expressed doubts about Trump’s potential nominees, and abortion activists are lobbying her to oppose any judge who might restore protections for babies in the womb,” reports LifeNews.
The abortion crazies have bombarded Collins’ Twitter page with photos of coat hangers while sending actual coat hangers to her office.
“Sent mine. You sent yours?” one activist wrote on Twitter.
“Nobody should trust what Collins says. I’m considering her a pro coat hanger Senator until she proves me wrong,” wrote another.
As noted by LifeNews, the coat hanger imagery is a farcical scare tactic that does not measure up to actual data. Even one of the early activists for Roe – eventual pro-lifer Dr. Bernard Nathanson – conceded the statistics were bogus:
In NARAL, we generally emphasized the frame of the individual case, not the mass statistics, but when we spoke of the latter it was always 5,000 to 10,000 deaths a year. I confess that I knew that the figures were totally false and I suppose that others did too if they stopped to think of it. But in the ‘morality’ of our revolution, it was a useful figure, widely accepted, so why go out of our way to correct it with honest statistics? The overriding concern was to get the laws eliminated, and anything within reason that had to be done was permissible.

According to the Center for Disease Control in 1972 the death rate from abortions was only 39 in the entire country. These deaths were still a tragedy, and could have been avoided if the mother had chosen life, but it remains clear that the numbers are nowhere near the number that pro-abortion advocates would have you believe.

Though Collins has shown herself to be pro-abortion and has even said she will not confirm a nominee that shows “hostility” to Roe v. Wade, she will not force the nominee into an abortion litmus test, since no nominee has to swear fealty to a past decision, only accept it as “established law.”
Even leftists are cautioning feminists from holding out hope that Susan Collins will be their abortion “Wonder Woman” come time to vote. Both Slate and The Washington Post had enough sense to admit that Collins is essentially playing a game that liberals are falling for.
