Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for president, is about as far left as you can go, in every sense. Here are five things you should know about the Harvard Medical School graduate:
1. Showing the classic leftist perspective of returning to nature while ignoring the impact on actual people, she thinks GMO’s should be banned. As she tweeted on Friday:
Stein said this week, “Monsanto lobbyists help run the day in those agencies and are in charge of approving what food isn’t safe.” Forget the fact that over 100 Nobel laureates have signed a letter urging Greenpeace to stop opposing genetically modified organisms.
Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro pointed out how cruel Stein was:
2. She hates Israel. The classic self-hating Jew, Stein grew up in an affluent Chicago suburb, attended a Reform Synagogue, and freely admits she is not a practicing Jew. She has accused Israel of “the pillage of Palestine,” and written that Israel’s “war crimes & human rights violations are off the charts.” She has stated, “With regard to Israel, the United States has encouraged the worst tendencies of the Israeli government as it pursues policies of occupation, apartheid, assassination, illegal settlements, demolitions, blockades, building of nuclear bombs, indefinite detention, collective punishment, and defiance of international law.”
3. Stein also wants to create a universal basic income that the government would finance. Forget the cost; as Jonathan Coppage wrote in The Washington Post, “Rather than knitting us to our coworkers, our employees, our collaborators and our families, a basic income would tie every American directly back to Washington, via millions of isolated and attenuated threads.”
4. She opposes free trade. Responding to Barack Obama’s 2012 State of the Union speech, she stated, “The President is also leading the bipartisan effort to pass the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), a devastating secretive trade deal known as “NAFTA on steroids” because it will send jobs overseas, undermine wages at home, and roll back protections for workers, public health and the environment … We must continue to mobilize to defeat the TPP.” As Aaron Bandler of The Daily Wire has explained, abandoning free trade would be a disaster.
5. She wants universal free college education. She has called for “making higher education free along with health care as a human right.” As Grey Gordon and Aaron Hedlund write in Accounting for the Rise in College Tuition:
With all factors present, net tuition increases from $6,100 to $12,559 [and] the demand shocks — which consist mostly of changes in financial aid — account for the lion’s share of the higher tuition. … These results accord strongly with the Bennett hypothesis, which asserts that colleges respond to expansions of financial aid by increasing tuition … Essentially, demand shocks lead to higher college costs and more debt, and in the absence of higher labor market returns, more loan default inevitably occurs.
