Yale University’s medical school illegally discriminates in admissions to favor black and Hispanic students, a Justice Department investigation found.
On Thursday, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division completed a year-long investigation into the Ivy League school’s admissions policies and practices. According to the federal government, Yale admits black and Hispanic applicants at higher rates than white and Asian applicants with similar academic credentials. 
&#8220;Black and Hispanic applicants were admitted with consistently lower academic qualifications than their White and Asian counterparts,&#8221; the DOJ said in a statement. &#8220;These facts support the Department’s <a href="https://www.justice.gov/crt/media/1440601/dl">finding</a> that Yale violated the law by intentionally discriminating based on race in its admissions, in clear violation of federal law.&#8221;
The findings suggest Yale may be violating the <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/22pdf/20-1199_hgdj.pdf">landmark 2023 Supreme Court ruling</a> striking down race-based affirmative action policies at Harvard and the University of North Carolina.
&#8220;The students admitted to Yale School of Medicine demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and personal commitment; its program of medical education encourages curiosity and critical thinking, and its graduates go on to become leaders in clinical care, research, and public service,&#8221; a university spokesperson said in a statement to The Daily Wire. &#8220;We will carefully review the Department of Justice’s letter. Yale School of Medicine is confident in the rigorous admissions process we follow. 
The Department of Justice, however, disagrees.
“Yale has continued its race-based admissions program despite the Supreme Court and the public’s clear mandate for reform,” Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon said. “This Department will continue to shed light on these illegal practices, and demand that institutions of higher education comply with federal law.”
Dhillon later pointed to the DOJ&#8217;s statistical analysis.

The university that produced Nathan Hale, one of America&#8217;s earliest and most revered heroes, apparently can’t tell the difference between men and women. 
A civil rights complaint filed Thursday by the watchdog group Defending Education accuses Yale University of violating Title IX and President Donald Trump’s executive order protecting women from radical gender ideology. The <a href="https://defendinged.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Yale-OCR_letterhead_1.22.26.signed.pdf">complaint</a>, first obtained by The Daily Wire, alleges that the historic institution does not take sufficient steps to ensure that women are able to have privacy in their bathrooms without intrusion from gender-confused men.
“Yale University is one of the United States’ most prestigious educational institutions. It also happens to be one of the largest recipients of federal funding of any institution of higher education in the country,&#8221; Defending Education Vice President Sarah Parshall Perry told The Daily Wire. &#8220;But despite its rich history and longstanding prestige, Yale seems content to follow the path of its woke sister ivies in prioritizing gender identity over biological sex, in apparent violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.&#8221;
The complaint was filed with the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights and alleges that the university’s bathroom policies violate Title IX, which bans sex-based discrimination at federally funded institutions. 
Defending Education wants the Education Department to step in and ensure that women have access to their own bathrooms at Yale. 
“Yale’s bathroom policies likely violate Title IX because they provide male and gender-neutral bathrooms on some coed undergraduate dormitory floors without also providing female bathrooms on the same dormitory floors,” the complaint filed by Defending Education Vice President Sarah Parshall Perry says. “Yale has converted many campus bathrooms into ‘gender inclusive’ bathrooms.”
According to a map <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?ll=41.31882761989977%2C-72.94422212541701&amp;z=13&amp;mid=19iHelKu2YL3A7smpJmerSSuVfD-Ohr4">posted</a> by the university, Yale has dozens of “all gender” bathrooms throughout its sprawling New Haven, Connecticut, campus. Some of these “gender inclusive” bathrooms are located in residential buildings. 
“With bathrooms designated as women’s, men’s, or gender-inclusive, students have the autonomy over their living arrangements and can prioritize roommate choice without worrying about bathroom location,” Yale <a href="https://housing.yale.edu/undergraduate-housing/room-draw/additional-resources">notes</a> on its website. “Students can be assured that a suitable bathroom will be accessible within their college, even if it’s not on their specific floor.”
This appears to indicate that some dormitory floors have male and “all gender” bathrooms, but not female bathrooms. This is confirmed by a “Trans@Yale Survival Guide” <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20251213175155/https://sites.google.com/yale.edu/transatyalesurvivalguide/survival-guide/bathrooms">that states</a> “most bathrooms throughout Yale&#8217;s housing facilities are gender-neutral and shared amongst students in any given entryway.”
Defending Education said in its complaint that they believe this violates President Donald Trump’s <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/defending-women-from-gender-ideology-extremism-and-restoring-biological-truth-to-the-federal-government/">executive order</a> cracking down on transgender ideology and Title IX guidance from the administration. 
The complaint also took issue with Yale’s interpretation of Title IX and its policies toward “gender identity.” For example, Yale’s “Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct” <a href="https://oiea.yale.edu/frequently-asked-questions">treats</a> gender-identity as a protected class. Yale’s Title IX office also responds to claims of both “sex- and gender-based discrimination.” According to Defending Education, Title IX should only apply to sex discrimination. 
&#8220;Yale is attempting to have its cake (nearly $900 million in federal funding in fiscal year 2024), and eat it too (by instituting bathroom, harassment, and non-discrimination policies that pick sides on the gender identity debate). Too much federal funding is at stake to ignore malfeasance and bad legal takes like Yale&#8217;s,&#8221; Perry told The Daily Wire.
The Biden administration attempted to include gender-identity as a protected class under Title IX, but was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-supreme-court-blocks-bidens-title-ix-rules-that-allowed-men-in-womens-sports">rebuffed</a> by the Supreme Court. That came after dozens of Republican-led states challenged the policy.

Don’t trust the Ivy League to produce well-educated students.
The eight institutions that make up the Ivy League are among the most selective in the United States, and their graduates occupy the elite echelons of American life. Parents often spend $80,000 or more per year for their children to attend Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Penn, Columbia, Brown, Cornell, or Dartmouth and have an opportunity to punch a ticket to the top.
But what really happens there? Do graduates really join “the fellowship of educated men and women,” as Harvard used to assert each year at its commencement ceremony?
Some do. Many don’t.
Like most American colleges, most of the Ivies grant signiﬁcant latitude in the undergraduate curriculum. (Columbia is the only exception.) Students not only choose a major — from as many as ninety options—but they also choose the content of their core curriculum. Core curricula historically guaranteed consistency for undergraduates, reflecting a wise faculty’s determination of the knowledge and academic skills most worth having. Today, however, most general education requirements in the Ivies are so general — some arts here, some sciences there—that they are simply another opportunity for undirected self-actualization. Hundreds of course options can fulﬁll each “requirement.”
These options, moreover, vary tremendously — from serious, rigorous, and open to challenge, to whimsical, activist, and tendentious. This variation is greatest in the humanities and social sciences. For every course seeking to develop a broader or deeper understanding of man, nature, and the cosmos, there are dozens preoccupied with pop culture, identity politics, progressive activism, or hyper-specialization.

Writing requirements are even worse. Putatively about writing, such courses indulge the moral and political conceits of their instructors. At the other extreme, most courses that meet science requirements actually teach science, even though light courses are available for slackers. (At Cornell, the course discussing Disney films to learn about animals is an exception, and Columbia still offers Physics for Poets.)
A generation ago, the critique of Ivy League curricula was that a student could graduate without being required to take any Shakespeare, American history, or Western civilization. That complaint remains well-grounded. Today, the situation is worse: Can a serious student find even one core course on Shakespeare or America worth taking?
By not providing a content-rich core curriculum — a set of required courses in the arts and sciences — but instead allowing students to choose from a wide range of courses to fulﬁll vague distribution requirements, most of the Ivies risk having students graduate with what the American Council of Trustees and Alumni calls a “thin and patchy education, with no guarantee that they have mastered a core set of facts or skills.” Absent strong curricular requirements, universities cannot guarantee that students “learn what they need to know to be informed citizens, effective workers, and lifelong learners.”
Fortunately, a strong education remains available to Ivy students in most areas of general education. They will have to work for it and get wise advice. But by far, Ivy League students are offered, and thus receive, a truly substandard education by any reasonable measure. Dante or Cardi B? Every educated man and woman ought to know the difference.

Moments after protesters near Yale University hurled invective and bottles at him, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir sat down with The Daily Wire to discuss why he refuses to be silenced by his critics.
“If I wasn’t so influential they wouldn’t have cared,” Ben-Gvir said. “They think they can use violence to defeat us. They will not defeat us. They will not win. Their violence will not win.”
Ben-Gvir is a boogeyman to the Israeli Left and Western media due to his extremely hawkish, right-wing views. While much criticism targets his controversial past, his hardline stances also receive scrutiny, including his proposal this week to bomb food storage facilities in Gaza to pressure the terror group to release the 59 remaining hostages.
Before his arrival at an event close to Yale on Wednesday night, about 300 students and local activists gathered to demonstrate against his presence. Chants such as “Ben-Gvir will fall” and “intifada, intifada” were shouted throughout the night.

As students arrived, they were shouted at and booed by the angry mob, and when they left, some had water bottles thrown at them.
Despite the uproar, Ben-Gvir said he enjoyed spending time with the students.
“I really really enjoyed it here at the end, even though someone threw bottles at me,” the Israeli government official said. “It doesn’t scare me. I am saying my truth and I will walk with my truth. I will keep saying it and I will fight for it.”
The day before, Ben-Gvir was at Mar-a-Lago, where he was welcomed by applause from a crowd filled with Trump allies and members of Congress. He said that the reception likely wouldn’t have happened if President Donald Trump had lost because he was detested by the Biden administration.
“It would have been likely that they would not admit me and here I am today, from a situation where I was a persona-non-grata, to a situation where I am being loved,” he said. “I enter their room and there is an applause for what I say, on our ideas, on our world view, on the fact that I want a big and strong state of Israel.”
Ben-Gvir said he believes the protesters are angry at him for several changes he made in Israel regarding firearm carrying, prison reform, and non-Muslim prayer on the Temple Mount, in addition to the Gaza conflict.
“I made reform in gun carrying laws in Israel. Before I came into office there were 8,000 gun licenses and after I came there were 200,000. And it works, it works, Jewish lives are being saved,” he said. “In the jails of Israel there was a complete summer camp, marmalades and chocolates and pitas and endless outdoor walks around the yard and there was no governance. I changed that, I stopped the summer camps, I took everything from them: the radio, the TVs, the education.”
Ben-Gvir, who is frequently criticized for advocating for Jews to be allowed to pray on the Temple Mount, said he helped change the status quo that forbade Jewish prayer.
“I made many, many changes,” he said. “That is why they are so angry at me and that’s why Hamas tried to assassinate me five times. And what does it say? I stand with my truths with my world view, and I really know we are right, and this is why we will win.”
While Ben-Gvir labels himself as a free speech advocate, he said the protesters outside his event were not engaged in free speech.
“Throwing bottles at me, trying to physically hurt me,” he said. “That is no freedom of speech. They want to intimidate, they want to shut people down.”
He added that he supports Trump’s plan to deport foreign students who are supporters of terrorists.
“I fully support Trump’s policy on U.S. universities,” he said. “I hope it will bring change because, in many places, the universities have turned into grounds for terrorism and support for terrorism. Who do they support? Child murderers? Women murderers?”
​Ben-Gvir was invited to speak at Shabtai, founded in 1996 as a Jewish alternative to other Ivy League intellectual discussion societies, though it is not officially affiliated with the university. Non-Jews are also invited, with prominent figures such as Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy among the ranks of affiliates.
Ben-Gvir, who hasn’t traveled to the United States since he was a child, said he came at his son’s urging.
“My son was here in Miami, he was a bit in New York several months ago, he told me ‘dad, you must come, you must come,’” Ben-Gvir recalled. “First of all the people: they are such good people. Good people. They love the country … and the things I encountered, I felt great love, great embrace.”
When asked why Americans should support Israel, Ben-Gvir said that the Jewish state is helping fight America’s enemies.
“I think Israel also fights America’s war — our war is not just for Israel,” he said. “Understand, those Hamas folk, my neighbors in Hebron, they don’t want only Hebron. They want Jerusalem, Acre, Haifa and Jaffa. If you question them a bit further, they tell you that their end goal is the entire world. Everywhere there would be caliphates. Everything will be Hamas.”
Ben-Gvir added that he is enjoying the close relationship with the Trump administration and hopes that the president follows through with his plans to take over Gaza and relocate Gazans.
“Trump has an excellent plan,” he said. “It is correct, it is right and it is ethical.”

Yale University chief psychiatry resident Dr. Amanda Calhoun made the remarks on far-left MSNBC host Joy Reid&#8217;s show &#8220;The Reidout&#8221; while talking about the election.
She said that the societal norm is that &#8220;if somebody is your family, that they are entitled to your time.&#8221;
&#8220;And I think the answer is absolutely not,&#8221; she said. &#8220;So if you are going to a situation where you have family members, where you have close friends who you know have voted in ways that are against you, like what you said, against your livelihood, it&#8217;s completely fine to not be around those people and to tell them why, to say, &#8216;I have a problem with the way that you voted because it went against my very livelihood, and I&#8217;m not going to be around you this holiday. I need to take some space for me.'&#8221;
She said that it &#8220;may be essential&#8221; for people&#8217;s mental health to &#8220;establish boundaries&#8221; with their family members over the results of the election.
&#8220;People are concerned about their human rights, their existence, their safety,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;And I think you know when we&#8217;re talking about people who are worried about, you know, getting gender affirming care. We&#8217;re talking about people who are worried about being able to get access to women&#8217;s health care, to, you know, life saving procedures to abortions.&#8221;

All over America, schools are back in session – and lessons are being learned. Some of those lessons are worthwhile, practical, and inspiring. But on far too many campuses, the lessons are doing serious damage not only to our sons and daughters and grandchildren, but to the nation they will one day lead.
Sadly, the most basic lesson a lot of students are learning from their teachers and administrators is: “Be a free-thinker—as long as you agree with us.” Conform your ideas. Shame people who think differently. Don’t engage in words, conversations, speeches, or debates that raise questions or address ideas that may challenge the current culture or established biases of this political season.
When pro-Palestine protests on college campuses reached a fever pitch earlier this year, Jewish students at colleges like Columbia University were told to <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/columnist/2024/04/22/columbia-protests-gaza-antisemitism-jewish-students/73412092007/">leave campus</a> for their own safety. At UCLA, Jewish students <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/pro-palestinian-encampment-blocks-ucla-students-from-entering-library-during-midterms/">voiced their concerns</a> but said they were “denied” and “not getting acknowledged.” UCLA masked its refusal to enforce rules against disruptive students behind a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/pro-palestinian-encampment-blocks-ucla-students-from-entering-library-during-midterms/">statement</a> saying the protests were largely peaceful.
The refusal to maintain a peaceful, respectful atmosphere on campus hit close to home for me two years ago. I serve as senior counsel and director of the Center for Academic Freedom at Alliance Defending Freedom, and in 2022, ADF General Counsel and CEO Kristen Waggoner was invited to share a presentation with a progressive, atheist advocate on the importance of free speech for all at Yale Law School. 
 
While Kristen and Monica Miller of the American Humanist Association believed they could demonstrate two sides of the ideological aisle finding common ground, several Yale Law students disrupted the event by shouting them down, hitting the walls, and violently intimidating the speakers into shutting down the event and leaving with a police escort. Yale failed to end the protest before it got out of control, and this is unfortunately becoming common at schools all over America (Yale eventually invited the speakers back for a peaceful presentation).
Administrators at universities all over the country will tell you they’re just trying to keep things from blowing up. They don’t want students interrupting classes, or blocking hallways, or rioting on the campus lawn. For the sake of everyone’s safety and undisturbed learning, they say, they must clamp down on any ideas that might stir the student pot.
But these same universities already have plenty of regulations in place to deal with violent or obnoxious students. The problem is that administrators are afraid to enforce them. What if the faculty members don’t like it? What if the board of trustees pushes back? What if we look bad on the evening news?
So, they silence any voices that diverge from the campus mainstream. They banish those with the “wrong” point of view. They promote their schools as bastions of tolerance and inclusion – but everyone knows these educators aren’t teaching tolerance to anyone.
The lessons their actions are passing along are that might makes right, that the loud and out-of-control are permitted to drown out the responsible and respectful. That our culture has no place for debate – or even conversation – even on important issues. That standing up for your principles in the face of opposition is a good way to get sent to campus Siberia.
People complain a lot these days about the quality of leaders they see in our public life. We wonder why we can’t produce great men and women like the ones who led us so thoughtfully and courageously in the past.
Is it really so hard to understand? Thinking comes when ideas are challenged and debated; courage comes from seeing courage modeled in the lives and conduct of others. Those aren’t lessons we’re teaching our children today. Those are not the examples we’re setting for our young people.
That’s why protecting free speech is so vital to our future as a nation. There can be no inclusion without a willingness to listen, to hear what others have to say. Without a genuine respect for other people, even if we see the world differently.
Whoever our leaders are in the years ahead, they’ll be serving a country deeply divided in its politics, its morals, its social and cultural attitudes. Uniting us will take unusual courage, self-control, and the ability to bring many different minds and hearts together.
Those are qualities worth passing along – if our schools and universities are willing to teach them.
The clock is ticking. And class is in session.

More than 70 years ago, William F. Buckley Jr. wrote &#8220;<a href="https://www.amazon.com/GOD-MAN-YALE-William-Buckley/dp/B002O059O6/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&amp;qid=&amp;sr=">God and Man at Yale</a>.&#8221; In the book, Buckley provides numerous examples of how collectivism was being taught in economics classes at Yale at the time. While the sheer number of examples often comes across as redundant, they serve Buckley&#8217;s point and overwhelm readers with a sense of urgency. The collegiate educational system was in need of reform or it would produce a generation of improperly educated individuals. Unfortunately, as the voice crying out in the desert, Buckley&#8217;s warning went mostly unheeded. As a result, we have for the last 40-some years lived in an increasingly collectivist society.
The word &#8220;collectivism&#8221; might seem anachronistic, but it is precisely the word Buckley used to describe this form of education. He wrote &#8220;God and Man at Yale&#8221; to bring awareness to educational corruption not just at Yale but, as he correctly assumed, at universities across the country. It is only logical to worry about the intellectual corruption being foisted upon the younger generation by their professors. I doubt as many people were concerned about this in the 1950s as they are today. Buckley foresaw the long-term consequences of what was being taught. Today, we long for a return to how education used to be — before drag queen story hour and teachers telling their kindergarten students about their sex lives. After reading &#8220;God and Man at Yale,&#8221; however, one can very clearly see how education devolved from the top down.
Buckley begins his economics section of the book by stating that the university encourages its students to seek &#8220;cradle-to-grave&#8221; security by teaching it indirectly through its curriculum. The recipient of such collectivist economic doctrine, will naturally try to bring about an environment where community-run production and equal distribution of wealth are the pillars of society, affording that &#8220;cradle-to-grave&#8221; security.

One of the textbooks used by the university was written by Theodore Morgan. Regarding income tax, Morgan says, &#8220;a tax of 42-49 percent on incomes between $20,000 and $100,000, and a tax of 75-99 percent on incomes over $100,000.&#8221; Morgan also thinks that there should be no exemption from capital gains tax. It is important to note that the economics classes Buckley is criticizing are for the most part entry level. It would be different if these were advanced theoretical classes with eight students in attendance. Unfortunately, actual class attendance was in the hundreds per semester.
Buckley continues his examples with another textbook review. This one is titled &#8220;Economic Analysis and Public Policy&#8221; by Bowman and Bach. These two authors were met with much justifiable criticism from Buckley. The authors state:
<blockquote>To set the responsibility for attaining and maintaining full employment on the shoulders of individual consumers or individual businessmen, is absurd.</blockquote>
They then go on to describe four powers that are unique to the government. Bowman and Bach maintain that these powers allow the government to control the economy in ways that private industry cannot. The first of these powers is the power of compulsion. Bowman and Bach believe that the state should use this to their advantage and forcibly redistribute income and restrict production of certain goods and services.
In relation to this, Theodore Morgan says:
<blockquote>high taxes for redistribution&#8230; If necessary, let the government guarantee full employment.</blockquote>
Buckley concisely responds by stating:
<blockquote>it must be realized that unemployment is never a problem if freedom is to be the sacrificial offering; unemployment is unknown to the Soviet Union.</blockquote>
Buckley, later into his writing, cites these and other economists who believe that deficit spending is not only good, but that there should be no limit to it. He cites Paul Samuelson, author of &#8220;Economics, An Introductory Analysis&#8221;:
<blockquote>In short, there is no technical financial reason why a nation fanatically addicted to deficit spending should not pursue such a policy for the rest of our lives, and even beyond.</blockquote>
This same kind of curriculum Buckley describes can be found in universities across America today. When considering the type of economic policies Kamala Harris proposes, one can only imagine the type of economic doctrine her professors preached from the classroom pulpit.
Harris has proposed a $25,000 housing assistance program in addition to taxpayer funded healthcare. These would only create the type of environment that Yale students were taught to pursue in the 1950s. The “cradle-to-grave” society that I mentioned earlier. This would lead to more deficit spending which, as quoted above, Samuelson promotes.
Harris also runs her campaign on the collectivist idea of the redistribution of wealth. Every author cited by Buckley wrote about the wonderful effects the redistribution of wealth can have on a society. Harris aims to achieve this redistribution by using the same method espoused by Theodore Morgan. That tool being higher capital gains tax and higher income tax.
Harris also seeks to ban price gouging which would allow even more government encroachment into private industry, another goal unanimously preached among economic collectivists.
William F. Buckley Jr. published his book &#8220;God and Man at Yale&#8221; in 1951. He wanted to warn society in general of the current curriculum at Yale and more broadly, universities across America. His call went mostly unheard. As a result, we are now faced with the threat of a president who is the poster child for economic collectivism. We must not be so complacent. We must take back the education system. If not, there will be many more presidents as bad or worse than what Kamala Harris might be. 
C.S. Lewis perfectly encapsulated this idea, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”

Princeton University and Yale University both saw their percentages of Asian American freshman dip this fall despite the Supreme Court eliminating <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/affirmative-action" target="_blank" rel="noopener">affirmative action</a> in college admissions last year.
At Princeton, the percentage of Asian American freshmen dropped two percentage points from 26% last year to 24% this year.
At Yale, the decline was bigger at six percentage points, from 30% last year to 24% this year.
At both Ive Leagues, the share of black freshmen remained the same &#8212; 9% at Princeton and 14% at Yale.
Last year in June, the Supreme Court ruled against affirmative action in college admissions, declaring race-based admissions at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina unconstitutional and in violation of the Civil Rights Act.
Students for Fair Admissions, the group that sued over affirmative action, had pointed to the high test scores of Asian American and white applicants who were rejected.
The high court&#8217;s decision has had a profound effect on the admissions processes at universities across the country.

At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (MIT) the percentage of black students plummeted in the wake of the court&#8217;s decision. The incoming freshman class this fall is only 5% black, down from an average of 13% in recent years, MIT <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mits-share-of-black-students-plummets-after-affirmative-action-struck-down" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> last month.
Amherst College, a historic liberal arts in Massachusetts, also <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-09-04/yale-university-sees-drop-in-share-of-asian-american-freshmen?utm_source=twitter&amp;cmpid=socialflow-twitter-businessweek&amp;utm_content=businessweek&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&amp;utm_medium=social" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that its percentage of black freshman students fell to 9% from 19% this year. Hispanic students also declined to 10% from 14% last year. Meanwhile, the percentage of white and Asian American students increased slightly.
At the same time, universities have scrambled to find other ways to diversify their student bodies.
Yale and Princeton both pointed to more students receiving financial aid. At Yale, more than 58% of students are now getting need-based financial aid.
“I am especially excited that the Class of 2028 includes the greatest representation of first-generation and low-income students on record, and that Yale College now enrolls more veterans than it has in many decades,” <a href="https://news.yale.edu/2024/09/04/new-undergraduates-begin-their-yale-college-journey" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Jeremiah Quinlan, Yale’s dean of undergraduate admissions and financial aid.
“At Princeton we make big bets on human talent from all sectors of society,” Princeton Provost Jennifer Rexford <a href="https://www.princeton.edu/news/2024/03/29/princeton-trustees-set-2024-25-budget-increasing-spending-undergraduate-financial#:~:text=Between%20fiscal%20years%202022%20and,numbers%20of%20students%20receiving%20support." target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Some schools moved away from considering standardized test scores as the argument that standardized testing harms minority students picked up steam. One Ivy League, Columbia University, permanently scrapped its standardized test requirement.
Some schools are also <a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-affirmative-action-college-admissions-1d37af28939a533551cff45fa577ceb0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">considering</a> requiring more essays for admissions to get a better idea of a student’s background, while others plan to recruit students from minority areas or admit more students transferring from community colleges.
A majority of Americans, 62%, oppose race-based college admissions, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/most-americans-think-college-admissions-should-not-consider-race-reutersipsos-2023-02-15/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to a Reuters poll last year.

A former Yale University student who was accused of sexual assault but acquitted at trial is suing 15 women’s organizations he says defamed him after the verdict.
Saifullah Khan was found not guilty in March 2018 but was subsequently expelled from Yale anyway. He sued the university and his accuser – and is <a href="https://civilinquiry.jud.ct.gov/DocumentInquiry/DocumentInquiry.aspx?DocumentNo=27589553">now suing</a> women’s organizations he says defamed him in post-verdict filings.
While suing Yale and his accuser, who has not been named in court or the media, the 15 organizations applied to file an amicus brief with the Connecticut Supreme Court. The filing included a proposed brief, which Khan says included “several false and defamatory statements.”
Those statements include the opening sentence, which stated as fact, “When Jane Doe was in college, the Plaintiff raped her,” even though Khan was acquitted. The brief also claimed that “her rapist invented an ambiguity in Connecticut law and subjected her to years of costly and traumatic retaliatory litigation.”
Throughout the brief, the organizations referred to the accuser as a “victim&#8221; and noted in a footnote that “Jane Doe was raped…”
When Khan and his attorney objected to the organizations’ application to file the amicus brief, the groups defended their claims as “supported by the record.”
The Connecticut Supreme Court disagreed with the claim, denying the application but allowing them to refile. In its denial, the court argued that any refiling must be “shorn of all facts not supported by the record.”
When the organizations refiled their brief, the opening sentence was changed to say: “Jane Doe, while a student at Yale University, engaged in Yale’s legally-obligated reporting and disciplinary procedures to report that plaintiff had sexually assaulted her.”
As Khan notes in his lawsuit, the original proposed brief is still <a href="https://appellateinquiry.jud.ct.gov/DocumentDisplayer.aspx?AppId=2&amp;DocId=qIg2wdaGkywLFsHjxUajVA%3d%3d">permanently available</a> on the Connecticut Supreme Court website.
Khan filed professional ethics complaints against Jennifer Becker, an attorney associated with the initial brief. When answering the complaint, Becker apologized for the language, saying, “I first want to acknowledge and apologize for the offending language that was included in the draft amicus brief.” She added that her language “was over-zealous and unnecessarily forceful.” She also directly addressed the use of the word “rape,” saying it was used “without qualification that it was an allegation…”
She claimed, however, that “any overzealousness on my part was ameliorated by the Court’s order and there is no resulting harm to Mr. Khan.”

Khan disagrees and is suing Becker and 15 women’s organizations who signed on to the amicus brief: Jewish Women International, Legal Momentum, The Fierberg National Law Group, Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation, Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Futures Without Violence, Advocates For Youth, National Alliance to End Sexual Violence, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, National Crime Victim Law Institute, National Network to End Domestic Violence, National Women’s Law Center, Network for Victim Recovery, Sanctuary for Families, and the Women’s Law Project.
The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-jury-acquitted-him-on-all-charges-but-yale-still-expelled-him-now-hes-suing-the-school-and-his-accuser">reported</a> on the details of Khan’s case. In March 2018, a jury found him not guilty in a court of law. While some could argue that “not guilty” does not mean “innocent,” some jurors <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2018/03/16/setting-the-record-straight-on-the-yale-sex-assault-trial/">said</a> they perceived him as innocent after the trial.
“He’s innocent, and the facts prove it,” said Elise Wiener, an alternate juror who saw the same evidence as the other jurors. “He was acquitted because he deserved to be acquitted and the prosecutor should never have brought the case in the first place.”

A trove of public documents revealed that the federal government has kept close tabs on pro- and anti-Israel protests across the country and cited concerns that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/yale-university" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yale University</a> was “pro-Hamas.”
The documents, obtained and <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-05-03/israel-hamas-war-protesters-targeted-by-dhs-surveillance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on by Bloomberg, reveal that agents with the Federal Protective Service (FPS), a law enforcement agency under the purview of the Department of Homeland Security, closely surveilled the wave of protests that came in the wake of the war between Israel and Hamas, which began after the terrorist organization’s attack on October 7.
One October 13 email concerning a pro-Israel demonstration at Yale University cited concerns that the institution is “pro-Hamas.” The email from the FPS investigator explained that he had received a call from a United States Marshal informing him of a pro-Israel rally that was scheduled for the same day. “I checked in with New Haven PD and received the same information and will be on the scene,” his email reads.
“The concern is that Yale University is pro Hamas,” the inspector wrote before also adding “at this time there is no credible threat. As more information comes in I will advise.” It is not clear if the FPS inspector was citing his own concerns, those of local authorities, or those of the protesters.
The FPS monitored a number of different protests for and against Israel. A series of communications show that federal agents were worried that demonstrations could attract racially motivated violent extremists and become violent. On one occasion, agents warned a Biden administration official of demonstrations set to take place in October from “the same two groups that led to the ~50 arrests (and 500+ not arrested) at the WH yesterday and shutdown several entrances.”
“These organizers keep rotating between USG locations, and the missile incident at the Gaza hospital has started inflaming tensions obviously,” the email read.

The communications came months before protests at universities across the country descended into violence. Students at Columbia University occupied a building on the campus and barricaded themselves inside and had to be removed from the premises by the New York Police Department.

Protests also turned violent at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) as pro- and anti-Israel protesters <a href="https://twitter.com/Raw_News1st/status/1785608364120052116" target="_blank" rel="noopener">clashed</a> on campus before police arrived at the scene. Protesters also attempted to <a href="https://x.com/DisasterTrackHQ/status/1786034189780897892" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hold off police</a> who attempted to enter and break up their encampment on the UCLA campus.

Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ted-cruz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ted Cruz</a> (R-TX) ripped left-wing funders this week who have donated to the groups behind the anti-Semitic protests on college campuses across the U.S.
Cruz made the remarks on his &#8220;Verdict&#8221; podcast with co-host Ben Ferguson while discussing protests that have erupted at Columbia University, the University of Southern California, Yale University, New York University, and others.
&#8220;The radical groups received at least $300,000 from Soros’ Open Society Foundations since 2017 and it also took in $355,000 from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund since 2019,&#8221; Cruz said. &#8220;Let me stop and say something. The Rockefeller Brothers Fund, let me ask you, is there anybody around the Rockefeller Brothers Fund who&#8217;s not an anti-Semite? Who&#8217;s not a bigot? Who&#8217;s not an anti-American vicious Marxist? If there is, get them to stop it.&#8221;
&#8220;There&#8217;s real money behind it,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And if you look at it, in many instances, so copycat tents had been seen at Harvard, at Yale, at Berkeley, at Ohio State, at Emory, and they&#8217;re organized by branches of the Students for Justice in Palestine, SJP, funded by George Soros.&#8221;
Cruz then highlighted the worldview that many leftist professors have that they have taught their students.
&#8220;The view of those Marxist academics is if you&#8217;re killing oppressors, that&#8217;s a good thing,&#8221; Cruz said. &#8220;The other group are the so-called victims. And when it comes to the Middle East, the victims are the Palestinians, in the leftist view. And what Marxists advocate is the violent revolution of the victims against the oppressors. So, when the so-called victims are killing the oppressors, they&#8217;re cheering for the murderer, the Marxist is happy for the murder, they think it is a good thing.”

Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ted-cruz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ted Cruz</a> (R-TX) slammed President Joe Biden and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez&#8217;s (D-NY) response to the anti-Semitic protests that have unfolded on multiple college campuses over the last several days.
Cruz&#8217;s comments come after students at some of America&#8217;s top universities — including Columbia University, New York University, and Yale University — have openly backed terrorist groups and called for violence against Jews. Many of the students are openly violating school conduct policies, and in some cases are violating criminal statutes with attacks on others.
&#8220;That is not peaceful,&#8221; Cruz said on his &#8220;Verdict&#8221; podcast with co-host Ben Ferguson this week. &#8220;Threats of violence and calling for the murder of your former students is not remotely peaceful.&#8221;
&#8220;AOC, this is a sitting member of Congress, she&#8217;s singling out Columbia and Yale, she&#8217;s praising what&#8217;s happening at Columbia and Yale,&#8221; Cruz said. &#8220;Understand, she supports this vicious anti-Semitism, and there is Joe Biden happily sitting there.&#8221;
Cruz then appeared to reference a Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/flashback-columbia-president-after-9-11-said-terrorism-is-a-form-of-protesting">report</a> from this week about remarks that Columbia University President Minouche Shafik made after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks when she said that terrorism was a “form of protesting against a system.”
&#8220;And in today&#8217;s leftist academy, using the president of Columbia&#8217;s own word, they have some sympathy for that,&#8221; he said. &#8220;No, there is no sympathy. Terrorism is not a form of protest. Terrorism is a horrific form of violence that targets civilians, that targets women and children, that commits murder and acts of cruelty. And that&#8217;s exactly what Hamas did.&#8221;
Cruz added, &#8220;And what Columbia did, they revoked his [Shai Davidai] pass to campus, they zeroed out his access and blocked him. This is the administration of Columbia, they decided between a professor on their faculty who happened to be Jewish, or the anti-Semitic protesters who are threatening violence that the problem was the professor who dared to be Jewish.&#8221;
