Maryland Democratic Governor Wes Moore signaled support this week for allowing minors to pursue sex change procedures, comments that could complicate Moore’s emerging reputation as a more culturally moderate Democrat ahead of the 2028 presidential cycle.
During an interview on the &#8220;PBD Podcast&#8221; this week, host Patrick Bet-David asked Moore how he would respond if his 12-year-old son came to him wanting to transition genders and whether he would advise waiting until adulthood. Moore initially emphasized parental support and involvement, saying he would want his child to feel “safe in his own skin” and know he had “a partner in me to help him along that journey.”
But when pressed directly on whether he would tell his son to wait until turning 18, Moore declined. “If this is how he is feeling, and I feel like I’m closely tied to him, I’m not gonna advise him on something that he feels,” Moore responded before reiterating that he would want to remain involved in the process.
“I’m not going to condemn him, nor castigate him. I’m not going to kick him out of the house. I’m not going to do anything that’s going to hurt him,” Moore added.

Wes Moore as he gears up for reelection and weighs a 2028 run for the White House, <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/04/05/2026/marylands-biggest-newspaper-is-going-after-the-governors-2028-campaign?utm_medium=media&amp;utm_campaign=flagshipnumbered1&amp;utm_source=newslettercta">Semafor reported</a>.
The investigative series, <a href="https://www.baltimoresun.com/tag/spotlight-on-maryland/">Spotlight Maryland</a>, includes FOX45 News, WJLA in Washington, D.C., and The Baltimore Sun. These outlets will examine whether Moore exaggerated his military service and investigate the athletic scholarships he received in college.
Reporters with Spotlight Maryland have exchanged tense emails with Wes Moore&#8217;s staff, citing frustration over what they describe as a lack of transparency.
“Our news team will continue pursuing this matter until they are satisfied that there is either no story &#8211; or until further investigation shows that events did not occur as they should have,” the team wrote in one letter to Moore’s office <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/04/05/2026/marylands-biggest-newspaper-is-going-after-the-governors-2028-campaign?utm_medium=media&amp;utm_campaign=flagshipnumbered1&amp;utm_source=newslettercta">obtained by Semafor</a>. “If our team finds the latter, they will report that. … We are also prepared to present our findings and concerns to the Secretary of the Army’s office; and if gets to that point, we fully expect it will have become a national level news story requiring the Army Secretary’s attention.”
Moore’s team has complained that the investigation is &#8220;needlessly hostile and politically motivated,&#8221; according to Semafor.
Then, the liberal governor ran to MS NOW.
&#8220;The Baltimore Sun used to be our paper of record,&#8221; Moore <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:jutl4tq6nqhumm5exzk52f5t/post/3mixau63lak2m">told former Biden White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki</a>. &#8220;It&#8217;s now become the paper of the right-wing.&#8221;
Moore complained that in 2024, media executive David Smith, the executive chairman of Sinclair Broadcast Group, <a href="https://www.baltimoresun.com/2024/01/15/baltimore-sun-media-sold-david-d-smith/">bought the paper</a>.
&#8220;I think we&#8217;ve seen how their readership continued to decline, but it&#8217;s happened because you&#8217;ve had a MAGA billionaire who is now currying favor for the President of the United States,&#8221; Moore said.
The liberal governor added that he was &#8220;deeply proud&#8221; of his military service and claimed nobody in the U.S. Army questions his integrity.
In 2024, The <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/29/us/politics/wes-moore-bronze-star.html">New York Times</a> reported that Moore falsely claimed on a 2006 White House fellowship application that he had been awarded a Bronze Star for his military service while deployed in Afghanistan.
&#8220;The soldiers I served with don&#8217;t question my integrity,&#8221; Moore said. &#8220;But we are seeing how the right wing and these right-wing billionaires like David Smith is then using his wealth to be able to manipulate local media.&#8221;

Democrats are claiming that President Trump is a racist because he is deploying help to clean up the giant poop spill in the Potomac.
On Monday, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/02/16/potomac-raw-sewage-moore-trump-fema-truth-social/">reported</a>:
<blockquote>President Donald Trump said Monday that federal authorities will respond to a major sewage spill that occurred four weeks ago in the Potomac River, which flows between Maryland, Washington and Virginia. In a post on his social network, Truth Social, Trump said the Federal Emergency Management Agency would play a key role in a response involving “Management, Direction, and Coordination” to protect the Potomac. FEMA is one of the agencies affected by the current partial government shutdown; in past shutdowns, its employees have largely been required to work without pay.
Trump blamed “local Democrat leaders” for “gross mismanagement” in his post, and he singled out Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D), suggesting that the governor is incapable of handling the situation. On Air Force One on Monday afternoon en route to Washington from Mar-a-Lago, Trump again criticized Moore. “I don’t like the fact that he did that horrible, you know, with the pipes and the Potomac, and he’s not doing the job,” Trump said. “I’m going to have to get the federal government involved in getting it fixed, because he can’t fix anything.”</blockquote>
Wes Moore tried to claim it was actually the federal government&#8217;s fault. It is not. He says he&#8217;s a victim of President Trump now. Sure, it&#8217;s his state pumping raw sewage into the rivers, but it is President Trump who is the real exploiter here.
 Moore will most likely run for president in 2028. I think that would be a quixotic quest; I do not think that he has “it,” whatever “it” is.
“I think the president just seems to have a very real issue with the fact that I do not bow to him and I will stand up to him because I will always defend my people. But the fact that I am the only black governor in this country and the fact that he seems to have a real issue with me, I think that&#8217;s an issue he&#8217;s got to take up,” he <a href="https://x.com/TheArenaCNN/status/2024252428959310008">declared</a>.

Moore also claims that President Trump may be a racist because he is “assaulting” employment opportunities for black women.
He <a href="https://x.com/TheArenaCNN/status/2024252428959310008">stated</a>, “He also has spent the past year making a direct assault on scholarships for HBCUs. The past year, we have seen the greatest assault on unemployment for black women that our country has ever seen. He&#8217;s spending his time attacking history and banning books. I honestly think that, you know, it&#8217;s a question not just for the president, but frankly, I think it&#8217;s also a question for white America. If they are looking at his actions. I think that&#8217;s something that people need to wrestle with.”
This is ridiculous. The unemployment rate in the country right now is 4.3%. Trump is not undercutting black women.
If the claim by Moore is that government employment has been cut in certain areas and that demographically this disproportionately affects black women, that does not mean that Trump is specifically targeting black women by cutting federal jobs.
Claiming victimhood on behalf of black women everywhere because President Trump is cutting federal jobs is truly silly, especially on the same day that President Trump was celebrating Black History Month at the White House.

One reporter on Wednesday took the opportunity to ask about whether Trump is a racist, since he has been called racist so many times. 
He <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bHKojtGTPI">asked</a>, “Where or when does the president believe he&#8217;s been falsely called racist?”
“You&#8217;re kidding, right?” White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt fired back, “I will pull you a plethora of examples. I&#8217;m going to get my team in that room to start going through the internet of radical Democrats throughout the years who have accused this president falsely of being a racist. And I&#8217;m sure there&#8217;s many people in this room and on network television across the country who have accused him of the same. In fact, I know that because I&#8217;ve seen it with my own eyes.”
I love it. 
One D.C. resident gave a very lively speech during this event at the White House. Her grandson was violently killed in Washington, D.C., and she <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DU6nStNjl2A/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">raved about Trump</a>: 
“We need National Guard, which we did years ago. He brought it on. I love him. I don&#8217;t want to hear nothing you got to say about the racist stuff. And don&#8217;t be looking at me on the news, hating on me because I&#8217;m standing up for somebody that deserves to be stand up for. Get off the man&#8217;s back. Let him do his job. He doing the right thing. Back up off. And grandma said it!”
But, oh, look at that vicious racist in the White House.

Even liberal outlets like CNN appear to be struggling to accept some of the wild claims made by Governor Wes Moore (D-MD), widely considered a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender even as he has denied plans to run.
CNN anchor Kasie Hunt put Moore on the spot during a recent interview, citing a <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/wes-moore-says-the-kkk-chased-his-great-grandfather-out-of-south-carolina-historical-records-tell-a-different-story/">recent report</a> from The Washington Free Beacon that questioned the veracity of some of his claims — in particular, his assertion that his great-grandfather had been &#8220;exiled&#8221; to Jamaica by the Ku Klux Klan.

&#8220;You say you are who you are,&#8221; Hunt began, adding, &#8220;The Free Beacon recently wrote about a story that you often tell about your great-grandfather and your family, and how and why they left the United States. They say that the story is — they report — they look at church records, they say the story is not true, that the Ku Klux Klan did not force your family to leave, your family left voluntarily.&#8221;
&#8220;Now, you of course have said — and your spokesperson said — &#8216;Anyone who wants to question whether terror and intimidation were pervasive in that era should open a history book. Reach out to the KKK and ask what they were up to in South Carolina in the 1920s,&#8221;&#8221; Hunt continued, repeating Moore&#8217;s vague statement on the matter. &#8220;Fair enough. I think my question to you is, is there any truth to what The Free Beacon has written here?&#8221;
Instead of addressing the point head-on, Moore chose to smear the outlet: &#8220;There is no truth to what a right-wing blog writes about me. No. There is not. Because I know my family&#8217;s history.&#8221;
Moore then doubled down on his claim, saying that his grandfather had only been a toddler when the family, living in South Carolina at the time, had been &#8220;run out by the Ku Klux Klan.&#8221;
Moore went on to speak about how his family had then returned to the United States years later — and once again suggested that anyone who questioned his version of events should ask the KKK for confirmation.  But Hunt did not appear entirely convinced.
&#8220;And those church records that show that one of your family members left voluntarily to take over for someone who had passed away, those records are wrong?&#8221; she asked.
&#8220;They should really ask the Ku Klux Klan about what their activities were during the 1920s,&#8221; he said again.
The story Moore so often repeats is that his maternal great-grandfather, Rev. Josiah Johnson Thomas, had been preaching sermons against racism in their hometown of Pineville, South Carolina, and had thus angered the local KKK. In an effort to avoid a certain lynching, Thomas escaped with his family in secret to Jamaica. His young son, Moore&#8217;s maternal grandfather, vowed the family would return one day — and they did.
But the <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/wes-moore-says-the-kkk-chased-his-great-grandfather-out-of-south-carolina-historical-records-tell-a-different-story/">records cited</a> by reporter Andrew Kerr at The Free Beacon showed that Thomas had publicly accepted a transfer to a church in Jamaica — where he himself hailed from — when the pastor there had passed away unexpectedly.
In addition, neither church records nor local reporting at the time mentions any conflicts between Thomas and members of the KKK, and Virginia Commonwealth University&#8217;s map showing the reach of the Ku Klux Klan at that time does not indicate there was ever a chapter operating in Pineville.

Most notably, the legislation targets the controversial 287(g) partnerships, which previously allowed local law enforcement officers to perform the functions of federal immigration agents.
Classified as emergency legislation, the law requires any jurisdiction currently operating under such an agreement to exercise its termination provision within 90 days.
Governor Moore, who had previously signaled his support for the measures, framed the signing as a step toward ensuring that all Marylanders feel protected by their local government. Supporters of the bills argued that entangling local police with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) eroded trust within immigrant communities, making residents less likely to report crimes or cooperate with investigations for fear of deportation.
&#8220;By removing local involvement in federal civil immigration enforcement, we are building a stronger bridge of trust between our law enforcement officers and the communities they serve,&#8221; proponents stated during the legislative session.
However, the move has not been without intense scrutiny. Opponents, including several county sheriffs and Republican lawmakers, raised significant concerns regarding public safety. They argued that programs like the Criminal Alien Program (CAP) are vital for identifying and removing incarcerated undocumented immigrants who may pose a threat to the community. Critics expressed fears that the loss of these federal partnerships would limit the ability of local authorities to keep &#8220;at-large&#8221; criminal offenders off the streets.
The legislation builds upon a foundation laid during a 2021 special session, which previously restricted the use of private detention facilities and limited when police could inquire about an individual&#8217;s immigration status during routine stops.
While the new law restricts active enforcement partnerships, it does not override federal mandates regarding the exchange of information. Under federal law, state and local entities are still prohibited from restricting the sharing of information regarding an individual’s citizenship or immigration status with ICE.
But the total ban on operational &#8220;immigration enforcement agreements&#8221; signals that Maryland has officially withdrawn its personnel and resources from the front lines of federal immigration control.

In a classic display of modern political theater, Maryland Governor Wes Moore reached for the race card after being snubbed from a White House dinner, despite a mountain of evidence suggesting the exclusion is actually rooted in a bitter, high-stakes policy brawl.
As the National Governors Association (NGA) descends on Washington this February, President Trump has upended decades of tradition by revoking invitations for Moore, the NGA Vice Chair, and Colorado Governor Jared Polis for a scheduled black-tie gala.
Rather than acknowledging the substantive, months-long warfare between his administration and the White House, &#8220;Moore &#8230; condemned the president’s threat to deploy the National Guard to Baltimore and defund &#8230; Maryland’s efforts to replace the fallen Key Bridge,&#8221; The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/02/08/trump-democratic-governors/">noted</a>.
Moore took to CNN’s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; to offer a racially charged non-explanation. When pressed by Dana Bash on why he was being singled out, Moore pivoted away from the political fray, stating, &#8220;It’s not lost to me that I’m the only black governor in this country. And I find that to be particularly painful.&#8221;
While Moore stopped just short of a direct accusation of racism, telling Bash he &#8220;can’t speak to the president’s intent,&#8221; the implication was as subtle as a sledgehammer: the only reason for his exclusion must be the color of his skin.
This claim borders on the ridiculous when one examines the actual state of play. The NGA is currently a house divided, fractured by a &#8220;Sanctuary Schism&#8221; where the administration is aggressively tying federal funding to immigration enforcement. Moore has been a chief antagonist in this drama, vehemently condemning Trump’s threats to deploy the National Guard to Baltimore and clashing over federal funding for the Key Bridge replacement.
Similarly, Governor Polis — who is emphatically not black — was also uninvited. Polis has been locked in a scorched-earth feud with the President over the conviction of Tina Peters, leading Trump to publicly label him a &#8220;scumbag.&#8221; The exclusion of both Moore and Polis clearly tracks with their roles as leaders of the &#8220;resistance&#8221; bloc within the NGA, opposing everything from the &#8220;War Department’s&#8221; control over National Guard units to Dr. Mehmet Oz’s new public health directives.
In response to the snubs, Moore declared that the NGA would officially withdraw its support for the dinner, asserting that &#8220;if you exclude one, you exclude us all.&#8221; However, by appearing to choose to frame clear-cut political consequences as a matter of racial &#8220;pain,&#8221; Moore is ignoring the reality of his own political brinkmanship.
In the current &#8220;Federal-State&#8221; power struggle, invitations aren&#8217;t being revoked based on demographics — they’re being revoked based on who is standing in the way of the administration’s agenda.

In August, an Instagram post from Hogan sparked rumors about a potential comeback. The post showed his old campaign RV, joking that it was “slightly used” and suggesting they could “get back out on the road again,” according to <a href="https://foxbaltimore.com/newsletter-daily/social-media-post-former-gov-larry-hogan-preparing-for-another-political-run" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox 45 Baltimore</a>. Hogan later said in September 2024 that he would not vote for Trump during his comeback bid, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/29/larry-hogan-trump-maryland-00181572" target="_blank" rel="noopener">POLITICO</a> reported.
In September, Moore launched his re-election campaign after winning his 2022 race with nearly 65% of the vote. The Democrat has been widely considered a possible 2028 presidential contender, but he told NBC News&#8217;s <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2028-election/maryland-governor-wes-moore-ruling-out-presidential-run-redistricting-rcna229615" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;Meet the Press&#8221;</a> in September that he&#8217;s &#8220;not running for president.&#8221;

Governor Wes Moore (D-MD) declared his intention to remain in his home state and seek reelection, telling NBC anchor Kristen Welker that he did not have it in mind to seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.
Moore, who has been floated as a possible contender on numerous occasions, has recently been involved in a public exchange-of-words with President Donald Trump over violent crime rates in big cities like Baltimore — and once even dared the president to walk the streets in his state to prove that it was safe.
But despite rumblings within his party that he might be a top choice going into 2028, Moore said unequivocally on Sunday&#8217;s &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; that he planned to seek reelection in Maryland — and that he intended to serve another full term as governor.

A growing number of Blue State governors have begun to draw battle lines over President Donald Trump&#8217;s use of National Guard troops and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to clean up violent crime — and expedite the deportation of criminal illegals — in major cities all across the country.
For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
Governor Wes Moore (D-MD) joined host Martha Raddatz on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;This Week,&#8221; and he began by blaming Trump for the animosity between them and claiming that he would &#8220;love&#8221; help from the Trump administration to clean up his city.

Moore continued to buck Trump&#8217;s suggestion that the National Guard ought to play a role, arguing that the military should not be utilized in that fashion. Trump has argued that since their deployment in Washington, D.C., has been quite effective, the same should be done in other major cities with similar crime problems.

On CBS News&#8217; broadcast of &#8220;Face the Nation,&#8221; Governor JB Pritzker (D-IL) took a remarkably similar posture. While claiming he&#8217;d welcome help from the federal government to address violent crime, Pritzker also claimed that his state — even Chicago — was making great progress and said he&#8217;d fight back if Trump&#8217;s help came in the form of ICE agents or the National Guard.
&#8220;They&#8217;ll be in court pretty quickly,&#8221; he said of the Trump administration.

Pritzker went on to chastise Trump for pointing out the violent crime rampant in Chicago, claiming instead that the biggest crime problems were in red states. What he did not mention was the fact that those cities were almost all controlled by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jb-pritzker-tries-to-fact-check-trump-gets-his-backside-handed-to-him-by-grok-instead">Democratic mayors</a>.

The Illinois Governor — who has also been rumored to have presidential aspirations — then claimed that shootings were also &#8220;down significantly&#8221; in Chicago before he pivoted to push for even more gun control.
&#8220;I very much believe that people who have a right to own a gun should be able to go get one, but that you&#8217;ve got to have universal background checks. You&#8217;ve got to make sure that you&#8217;re not selling guns that give someone the ability to commit a mass attack, in a school or anywhere else,&#8221; he said.

Maryland’s Democratic governor is considering gerrymandering the lone Republican in his state’s congressional delegation out of a U.S. House seat.
Governor Wes Moore appeared on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” on Sunday and said that, in the interests of &#8220;fairness,&#8221; he is looking at targeting GOP Rep. Andy Harris in Maryland’s first district. 
“I want to make sure that we have fair lines and fair seats,” said Moore. 
Harris is the only Republican of Maryland’s ten members of Congress. In 2024, President Donald Trump received over a third of Maryland’s vote. He lost the state to former Vice President Kamala Harris, who <a href="https://www.politico.com/2024-election/results/maryland/">won</a> 63% of the state’s vote.
Moore said his plan to potentially gerrymander Harris out of the first district is about fighting against “situations where politicians are choosing voters.”
“We need to be able to have fair maps, and we also need to make sure that if the president of the United States is putting his finger on the scale to try to manipulate elections because he knows that his policies cannot win in a ballot box, then it behooves each and every one of us to be able to keep all options on the table to ensure that the voters’ voices can actually be heard,” Moore said.

Last week, the Texas state legislature passed a new congressional map that favors Republicans winning an extra five seats in the U.S. House in the upcoming midterm elections. Texas Republicans redrew the maps after President Donald Trump said that new lines should be drawn to get the GOP a handful more seats in the House.
Other GOP-led states may make similar moves. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has floated the idea of redistricting Florida. Ohio must draw new lines for its congressional map before the midterms by law.
The GOP push to redistrict in favor of Republicans has sparked a backlash from Democratic state officials who want to lean further into gerrymandering. California Governor Gavin Newsom has put forward a plan to draw a new map that could claw Democrats another five seats in California’s already overbalanced congressional delegation.
For Newsom’s plan to work, California voters must approve the new map since redistricting congressional seats in the state is controlled by an independent commission under a 2010 law. Newsom wants to temporarily return authority to redistrict back to the state legislature.

Trump took aim at Moore — who has been floated as a potential contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028 — in a post shared first on his Truth Social platform, comparing him to another of the Democratic Party&#8217;s top prospects (California Governor Gavin Newsom) in the process.

The president went on to jab at Newsom (D-CA), saying that he could always send troops into Baltimore like he&#8217;d done in Los Angeles.
&#8220;But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the &#8216;troops,&#8217; which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime. After only one week, there is NO CRIME AND NO MURDER IN DC! When it is like that in Baltimore, I will proudly &#8216;walk the streets&#8217; with the failing, because of Crime, Governor of Maryland,&#8221; Trump added.
&#8220;P.S. Baltimore is ranked the 4th WORST CITY IN THE NATION IN CRIME &amp; MURDER. Stop talking and get to work, Wes,&#8221; he concluded. &#8220;I’ll then see you on the streets!!! Whoopi Goldberg came unglued during Thursday’s broadcast of “The View” on ABC, claiming even after living through all eight years of former President Barack Obama’s time in office, people keep telling her America “can’t elect a black man.”
Goldberg made the comment while complaining about the fact that, at least in her mind, Governor Wes Moore (D-MD) was not getting the kind of national buzz that she thought he deserved.
She began by claiming that she herself was so independent politically that even the term “independent” did not go far enough to describe her.

Sunny Hostin began the conversation, saying that Goldberg, to her knowledge, had “been independent for a while.”
&#8220;There’s no name for what I am,” Goldberg replied, prompting laughter from the audience as she went on to explain her point further. “There’s no name. Because there are some things that fit what I want and some things that don’t. And I am the crazy person who said, ‘Why don’t we have a Democratic president and a Republican vice president?’”
Her cohosts recalled that she had, in fact, suggested that arrangement in the past.

Goldberg went on to mention Moore, calling him a “perfect candidate” — and cohost Sara Haines agreed, interjecting, “I love Wes Moore.”
“But people are saying, ‘You can’t elect a black man,’” Goldberg complained, asking, “Why not?”
Her cohosts pointed out that the United States had elected a black man — former President Obama — twice, and while Goldberg conceded the point, she claimed that had done nothing to deter the people who continued to tell her that such a thing could not be done.
