Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox said Friday that the assassination of Charlie Kirk could be a “turning point” on whether the country would embrace free and open debate or turn to political violence. 
Cox made the comments during a press conference announcing that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson had been arrested for the murder of Kirk on Wednesday. After announcing the arrest, Cox delivered an impassioned plea, declaring that Kirk’s killing was a direct attack on the values he championed.
“This is certainly about the tragic death, assassination, political assassination, of Charlie Kirk,” he said. “But it is also much bigger than an attack on an individual. It is an attack on all of us.  It is an attack on the American experiment. It is an attack on our ideals. This cuts to the very foundation of who we are, of who we have been, and who we could be in better times.”
“Political violence is different than any other type of violence, for lots of different reasons,” Cox added. “One, because in the very act that Charlie championed of expression, that freedom of expression that is enshrined in our founding documents, in having his life taken in that very act makes it more difficult for people to feel like they can share their ideas, that they can speak freely.”
Cox added that in the hours following Kirk’s killing, he was as angry as he had ever been, but that his attitude changed when he reflected on Kirk’s own advocacy of forgiveness, the importance of debate, and advocacy of non-violent disagreement.
Kirk, a devout Christian, frequently urged his supporters to treat their political opponents with respect and peacefully engage with them. 
Cox highlighted how no riots or looting had broken out in the wake of Kirk’s killing.
“I want you to look at how Utahns reacted the last two nights. There was no rioting.  There was no looting. There were no cars set on fire,” Cox said. “There was no violence. There were vigils and prayers, and people coming together to share humanity. And that, ladies and gentlemen, I believe is the answer to this.  We can return violence with violence, we can return hate with hate. And that’s the problem with political violence: It metastasizes because we can always point the finger at the other side. And at some point, we have to find an off-ramp, or it’s going to get much, much worse.”
Cox ended his remarks with a call for everyone to follow Kirk’s advocacy of peaceful debate. 
“History will dictate if this is a turning point for our country,” he said. “But every single one of us gets to choose right now, if this is a turning point for us. We get to make decisions. We have our agency. And I desperately call on every American Republican, Democrat, liberal, progressive, conservative, MAGA, all of us to please, please, please follow what Charlie taught me.”

Utah officials and the FBI confirmed during a press conference on Friday morning that the man suspected of assassinating conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was taken into custody on Thursday night.
Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox said at a press conference that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested after allegedly confessing or implying to a family member that he had assassinated Kirk. Robinson also recently told a family member of his dislike of Kirk, the governor said. Cox added that a family member of Robinson’s told investigators that the suspected assassin had become more political in recent years, and that Robinson mentioned at a recent dinner that Kirk was scheduled to speak at Utah Valley University.
“They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints that he had,” the governor added. “The family member also stated Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate.”
Robinson was taken into custody at around 10:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. One of Robinson’s family members reached out to a family friend about the 22-year-old who allegedly confessed or implied that he had assassinated Kirk. The information “was then relayed” to authorities, according to Cox. Robinson lived with his family in Washington County in southwest Utah and was not a student at Utah Valley University.
Authorities said campus video showed the suspected assassin arriving at Utah Valley University in a gray Dodge Challenger before Kirk’s killing, and a family member later confirmed to investigators that Robinson owned the same type of car.
A roommate of Robinson also spoke with investigators and allowed them to review messages from the suspect that were sent via the online platform Discord. Messages sent from “Tyler” allegedly discussed retrieving a rifle from a “drop point” and “leaving the rifle in a bush,” Cox said. Authorities said they found a bolt-action rifle with a scope attached in a bush in a wooded area near where Kirk was assassinated. Another message from “Tyler” mentioned that he had changed outfits, the governor added.
Cox said that ammunition from the rifle that authorities believe the suspected assassin used to kill Kirk was engraved with multiple phrases, including “Notices Bulges OwO what&#8217;s this?” (a furry culture meme), “^&gt;VVV” (the calldown code for a 500kg bomb in the game Helldivers 2), “Oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao” (song of the Italian antifascist resistance), “If you read this you are gay LMAO,” and “Hey fascist! Catch!” It does not appear that the suspected assassin made any reference to transgender ideology, as was previously stated in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ammunition-from-charlie-kirk-assassination-was-engraved-with-transgender-and-anti-fascist-ideology">reports</a> citing internal government documents.
FBI Director Patel and Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith thanked the public for its help in catching the suspected assassin. Smith added that the success of law enforcement could not have been achieved without the public’s prayers, patience, and support.
“That is what we needed to get through this,” he said.
Patel added that the investigation remains ongoing, and Governor Cox said that charging documents will likely be filed next week. Utah is one of the few states that still has the death penalty. Both Cox and President Donald Trump have called for Kirk’s assassin to be executed after he is convicted.

Investigators found ammunition inside the .30 caliber bolt action rifle believed to have been used in the Charlie Kirk assassination, with government documents reported on by both <a href="https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/charlie-kirk-shot/card/ammunition-in-kirk-shooting-engraved-with-transgender-antifascist-ideology-sources-pdymd1sXXMSlVRhpvR4b">The Wall Street Journal</a> and conservative commentator <a href="https://x.com/scrowder/status/1966118431511433267">Steven Crowder</a> saying that unused ammunition was engraved with “transgender and anti-fascist ideology.&#8221;
The Department of Justice did not confirm the reports, telling The Daily Wire that the investigation is still ongoing, with investigators analyzing the suspected assassin&#8217;s rifle and the ammunition.
Crowder said that his team received an email from an Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms officer on Thursday morning with what appeared to be an internal law enforcement message. The Wall Street Journal also reported that it had reviewed an internal law enforcement bulletin that discussed transgender and antifascist ideology on ammunition.
&#8220;All cartridges have engraved wording on them expressing transgender and anti-fascist ideology,&#8221; according to the email that Crowder posted on X. &#8220;An emergency trace has been submitted, and ATF SLC is working leads generated by the trace. The firearm and ammunition have been taken by the FBI for DNA analysis and fingerprint impressions.&#8221;
Kirk was answering an audience question on transgender mass shooters seconds before he was assassinated. It was reported last week that the Department of Justice is considering moves to ban guns for individuals who believe they are transgender.
The reported law enforcement message also stated that the rifle that was recovered is &#8220;an older model imported Mauser .30-06 caliber bolt action rifle,&#8221; adding that it was &#8220;wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near the campus.&#8221; A <a href="https://x.com/nypost/status/1966160408718274982">photo</a> of what officials believe to be the assassin&#8217;s rifle was published by The New York Post.

Robert Bohls, the special agent in charge of the FBI&#8217;s Salt Lake City field office, said at a press conference that authorities believe they have recovered the suspected assassin&#8217;s &#8220;high-powered bolt-action rifle,&#8221; adding that the rifle was found &#8220;in a wooded area.&#8221;
Utah DPS Commissioner Beau Mason added that authorities have &#8220;good video footage&#8221; of the suspected assassin, but they are holding off on releasing the video footage as they &#8220;work through some technologies and ways to identify this individual.&#8221; The suspect is believed to have shot Kirk from a perch on the roof of an adjacent building to where the conservative commentator was speaking in a courtyard on campus. Authorities believe the suspect jumped off the roof and fled off campus and into a neighborhood after the assassination. Mason said the suspected assassin appeared to be &#8220;of college age.&#8221;
The FBI said on Wednesday night that two subjects who were detained and questioned in connection with the assassination were released after &#8220;law enforcement found no current ties to the shooting with either of these individuals.” FBI Director Kash Patel said earlier on Wednesday that the suspected assassin had been taken into custody. He later said, “The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement. Our investigation continues, and we will continue to release information in the interest of transparency.”

State and federal authorities released a joint update on Wednesday night on the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, saying that two people had been detained for questioning and later released.
In a <a href="https://mailchi.mp/utah/for-immediate-release-updates-on-charlie-kirk-shooting-at-uvu?e=98970b8875">press release</a> issued by the Utah Department of Public Safety and the <a href="https://x.com/FBISaltLakeCity/status/1965961274757468603">FBI</a>, authorities said that George Zinn and Zachariah Qureshi had been taken into custody as suspects and questioned, but law enforcement found &#8220;no current ties to the shooting with either of these individuals.&#8221; The statement added, &#8220;There is an ongoing investigation and manhunt for the shooter.&#8221;
&#8220;The shooting is believed to be a targeted attack. The shooter is believed to have fired from the roof of a building down to the location of the public event in the student courtyard. Any additional clarifications cannot be provided to protect the integrity of our investigation,&#8221; authorities said.
Zinn, a 71-year-old man, is known in the Salt Lake City area for disrupting political events and has a criminal history dating back to the 1980s, The Salt Lake Tribune <a href="https://www.sltrib.com/news/2025/09/10/george-zinn-what-we-know-about-man/">reported</a>. In 2013, Zinn was charged with threatening to place bombs at the finish line of the Salt Lake City marathon. Zinn agreed to a plea deal in that case and was sentenced to probation. However, after he failed to meet the conditions of his probation, he was ordered to spend a year in jail, with credit for time served, according to the Tribune. Zinn was arrested again in 2019 after a protest in downtown Salt Lake City turned violent.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill told the Tribune on Wednesday that Zinn leaned libertarian and would “give me a hard time for being a Dem.” He added that at “almost every political event you can think of, there was always George somewhere in the background, listening.”

According to officials, the Utah Valley University Police Department had six officers working the Kirk event, which was in addition to Kirk&#8217;s security detail. Around 3,000 people were in attendance to listen to Kirk when a gunman fired a single shot from the roof of a building near where Kirk was speaking at approximately 12:20 p.m. local time, according to authorities. Kirk was taken to Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead &#8220;hours later.&#8221;

Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and one of the nation’s most prominent conservative voices, was shot dead on Wednesday while giving a speech at Utah Valley University.
Turning Point USA Chief Operating Officer Justin Streiff confirmed Kirk&#8217;s death in an email to TPUSA staff.
&#8220;It is with a heavy heart that we, the Turning Point USA leadership team, write to notify you that earlier this afternoon Charlie went to his eternal reward with Jesus Christ in Heaven.&#8221;
President Donald Trump also confirmed Kirk&#8217;s death, calling him a &#8220;Legendary&#8221; figure.
&#8220;The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,&#8221; Trump wrote. &#8220;He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!&#8221;
Kirk, 31, was answering audience questions at the Utah school when shots rang out. He was struck in the neck mere seconds after answering a question about mass shootings. His last words were “gang violence.”
As of this writing, police do not have a suspect in custody, according to The New York Times.
&#8220;The police have determined that a person who was taken into custody after the shooting was not actually the shooter,” university spokesman Scott Trotter told the paper.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika, and two children.
Born in the suburbs of Chicago, Kirk became involved with conservative politics in high school. An Eagle Scout, he founded TPUSA in 2012 at 18 in a bid to create a “grassroots organization to rival liberal groups such as MoveOn.org.&#8221;
His organization is one of the biggest success stories in American political history, spurring a conservative revival among young voters in the country.
Spurred by the success of the Tea Party movement and the re-election of President Barack Obama, the group quickly grew into a powerhouse on campuses across the country. TPUSA currently boasts more than 800 student chapters.
TPUSA also spun off into several sister groups, including TPUSA Action and Students For Trump. In 2021, Kirk launched TPUSA Faith, a group dedicated to recruiting “pastors and other church leaders to be active in local and national political issues.&#8221;
Kirk, a devout evangelical Christian, spoke often about the centrality of the Christian faith to his life and the American republic.
Kirk was an early supporter of Trump&#8217;s, endorsing him at the 2016 Republican National Convention and campaigning for him through the rest of that and the president&#8217;s subsequent political campaigns.
Kirk was instrumental in drumming up Gen Z support for Trump in 2024, and subsequently played a major role in the president’s second administration. He&#8217;s widely credited for driving the youth vote that helped put Trump back in office.
In March, Trump appointed Kirk to the United States Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. Kirk also advised the president and his administration on matters of personnel and policy.
A prolific commentator, Kirk was the author of five books, most recently Right Wing Revolution: How to Beat the Woke and Save the West. Kirk was also the host of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” a daily talk radio show.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is removing from the market prescription drug products for children that contain concentrated ingestible fluoride, the agency announced this past week.
The FDA cited studies that suggest a connection between ingested fluoride in children and lower IQ, weight gain, and thyroid issues.
&#8220;Unlike toothpaste with fluoride or fluoride rinses, these products are swallowed and ingested by infants and toddlers,&#8221; a press release from the agency said. &#8220;They have also never been approved by the FDA.&#8221;
&#8220;Ingested fluoride has been shown to alter the gut microbiome, which is of magnified concern given the early development of the gut microbiome in childhood,&#8221; the press release added. &#8220;Other studies have suggested an association between fluoride and thyroid disorders, weight gain and possibly decreased IQ.&#8221;
FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said it&#8217;s vital that the FDA &#8220;err on the side of safety&#8221; when it comes to our children.
&#8220;The best way to prevent cavities in children is by avoiding excessive sugar intake and good dental hygiene, not by altering a child’s microbiome. For the same reason that fluoride may kill bacteria on teeth, it may also kill intestinal bacteria important for a child’s health,” the commissioner said in a statement. “I am instructing our Center for Drug Evaluation and Research to evaluate the evidence regarding the risks of systemic fluoride exposure from FDA-regulated pediatric ingestible fluoride prescription drug products to better inform parents and the medical community on this emerging area. When it comes to children, we should err on the side of safety.&#8221;

Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox signed a law on Tuesday that will increase protections for the children of online content creators. This move was inspired by the child abuse conviction of Ruby Franke, a popular YouTube personality who was found guilty of severely abusing her children.
The new law says that online creators who make more than $150,000 a year from content featuring children will be required to set aside 15% of those earnings into a trust fund that the kids can then access when they turn 18. This will also be the rule for parents of child actors appearing in TV or film projects, per the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/ruby-franke-child-influencer-protections-utah-d9702b22c9ea7adba6e15003971493ce#">Associated Press</a>.
“Children cannot give informed consent to be filmed on social media, period,” Ruby’s ex-husband Kevin Franke said. “Vlogging my family, putting my children into public social media, was wrong, and I regret it every day.”
The Frankes became famous after starting the “8 Passengers” YouTube channel in 2015. The series followed their day-to-day lives as a Mormon family in Springville, Utah. The Franke children were included in the videos Ruby posted up to five times a week, the outlet noted. Their content became popular, attracting 2.5 million subscribers by 2020. 
In 2012, Ruby changed track and started creating parenting content with therapist Jodi Hildebrandt. At Hildebrandt’s insistence, Ruby became estranged from her husband and moved into the therapist’s home with her two youngest children. Viewers became increasingly alarmed by Ruby’s disciplinary suggestions.
The women were taken into custody on child abuse charges after Ruby Franke’s severely underweight 12-year-old son, Russell, climbed out of a window and ran to a neighbor for help. The neighbor called 911 after noticing that the teen’s ankles were wrapped in bloody duct tape. Responding officers discovered the youngest Franke child, 9-year-old Eve, with her head shaved and sitting cross-legged in a dark closet.
A search of the home uncovered handwritten journals where Ruby claimed that her son was possessed by the devil. In the journals, she detailed abuse including starvation and making her children work outside in the heat without protection or nourishment. 
Both Ruby and Hildebrandt received prison sentences of up to 30 years. The Hulu documentary “Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke” led to national attention.
The youngest Franke daughter, Eve, wrote a statement regarding the new law. “I’m not saying YouTube is a bad thing. Sometimes it brings us together,” she said. “But kids deserve to be loved, not used by the ones that are supposed to love them the most.”
The content creation industry is largely unregulated, AP noted, but several states have started adding protections. Illinois, California, and Minnesota all have laws that protect the earnings of young creators.

Former Utah congresswoman Ludmya “Mia” Love passed away on Sunday after a nearly three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. She was 49 years old.
Her family posted the news on Sunday: &#8220;Love Family: With grateful hearts filled to overflowing for the profound influence of Mia on our lives, we want you to know that she passed away peacefully today. She was in her home surrounded by family. In the midst of a celebration of her life and an avalanche of happy memories, Mia quietly slipped the bands of mortality and, as her words and vision always did, soared heavenward. We are thankful for the many good wishes, prayers and condolences. We are taking some time as a family and will provide information about funeral services and a public celebration of her life in the days to come.&#8221;

Love, a Republican, was initially diagnosed with the aggressive form of brain cancer — which also afflicted the late Senator John McCain — in 2022, three years after she left the House of Representatives where she’d served Utah’s 4th Congressional DIstrict since winning the seat in 2014. Prior to her time in Congress, Love served her community as the mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah.
After losing her 2018 re-election bid — by just under 700 votes — to former Salt Lake City Mayor Ben McAdams (D-UT), Love was hired as a CNN commentator and made several appearances on the ABC midday talk show “The View.”
She spoke about her prognosis with CNN anchor Jake Tapper in May of 2024 — when doctors advised her that she likely had 10-15 months to live — and she said that her faith was what kept her strong.
“I was looking for a cure in my faith and in science. Funny thing is, my patriarchal blessing said you will have a long and prosperous life, a rich and rewarding life, so long as you decide to remain in public service,” she told him at the time.
“Whether you are facing a cancer diagnosis yourself, or fighting a different battle, there is hope! For me, that hope comes from my faith and my family,” she added in a Facebook post. “Both have been a source of immeasurable strength, peace, love, and support. Every day, I thank God for my life and a family who give that life beauty and meaning.”
Things took a turn for the worse early in 2025, and on March 1, Love’s daughter Abigale shared heartbreaking news via X: “Hello Friends, I’m Mia’s daughter Abigale. Many of you are aware that Mom has been fighting GBM brain cancer. Sadly her cancer is no longer responding to treatment and the cancer is progressing. We have shifted our focus from treatment to enjoying our remaining time with her. I am building an archive of special memories with Mia. In the days that followed, Love was recognized by her state’s legislature in a citation.
“Mia Love made history as the first black Republican woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Utah’s Fourth Congressional District from 2015 to 2019. During her time in Congress, Congresswoman Love tirelessly advocated for policies in tax reform, economic development and public safety, always prioritizing the well-being of her constituents,” the statement began.
The statement acknowledged Love’s service to her community both as a mayor and then as a U.S. Congresswoman.
“Congresswoman Love’s admirable leadership, commitment to public service and inspiration to future generations will continue to resonate long into the future. Despite her courageous battle with brain cancer, Mia Love exemplifies strength, resilience and unwavering determination, inspiring all who know her story,” it concluded.

The University of Utah’s medical school paid over $75,000 to be a member of the influential <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mount-rushmore-of-dei-how-a-major-academic-association-is-destroying-medicine" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Association of American Medical Colleges</a>, the DEI-focused organization that facilitates medical education throughout North America, according to an invoice shared with The Daily Wire. 
The invoice, obtained through a public information request by Do No Harm, an organization opposed to the politicization of medicine, shows that the University of Utah’s Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine paid $75,760 for a year-long institutional membership in the AAMC starting on July 1, 2024. The AAMC counts as members all 158 American medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), which the organization co-sponsors. 
The AAMC <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mount-rushmore-of-dei-how-a-major-academic-association-is-destroying-medicine">has been accused</a> of harming medical education through leftist political initiatives, including its commitment to DEI initiatives, “anti-racism,” and promoting transgender ideology. A <a href="https://donoharmmedicine.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Activism-over-Meritocracy-How-the-AAMC-is-Corrupting-Medical-Education-with-Endless-DEI-Ideology.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comprehensive report</a> from Do No Harm highlights the full extent of the AAMC&#8217;s DEI programs. 
“It&#8217;s just ironic that the medical schools are held captive to pay this kind of money to be dished out all the crap that comes out of the AAMC,” Laura Morgan, the author of the report and Do No Harm’s senior director of programs, told The Daily Wire.
Additionally, the medical school twice paid over $20,000 to the AAMC over the last two years for a booth and marketing services at the organization’s annual conference. For this year’s AAMC conference in Atlanta, the school paid $18,000 alone for marketing services and another $5,250 for the booth. 
During some of their <a href="https://healthcare.utah.edu/the-scope/aamc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previous</a> appearances at the conference, the school has hosted talks on “The Power of Diversity in Medicine,” “Is Climate Change a Health Care Issue?&#8221; and “Developing Leadership Opportunities for Women in Academic Medicine.” 
AAMC member schools receive professional development for faculty, policy advocacy before Congress, access to data and research, applicant and student services, and accreditation services. The organization was founded in 1876. 
In recent years, the AAMC has moved beyond medicine to promote race-based academic admissions policies, racially-focused medical theories, and transgender medical procedures for children. The group has also declared that DEI in health care is one of its top priorities. 
”Because the AAMC promotes so much of the ideologically based information, then that just trickles into the medical schools and they perpetuate it,” Morgan said. “What’s it going look like when there’s a whole generation of doctors who can tell you all about microaggressions or transgenderism, but they don’t know anything about how your heart works.&#8221;
Do No Harm director of research Ian Kingsbury pointed out that the AAMC&#8217;s DEI agenda has gone beyond mere recommendations. He said in one instance, the LCME <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2023/02/01/med-school-went-woke-after-pressure-from-accreditor-documents-show/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pressured</a> the University of Utah School of Medicine because it said the school’s “diversity/pipeline programs and partnerships” were “unsatisfactory.” LCME later claimed that it had a broad definition of diversity that expanded beyond race and gender.

“They play a game of pretending that these are simply recommendations but we have reasons to suspect that they are enforcing this ideological agenda,” Kingsbury said. “It’s not simply that they are recommending these things, they are saying that schools must do this.” 
He added that it might be necessary to have the federal government intervene because the AAMC had “lost the plot so badly,” and had no competitor to force them to focus on academics. 
“There is a social contract in medicine which says that doctors will do medicine and we will largely leave them alone while they practice medicine,” he said. “Once they stop doing medicine and start doing whatever the hell this is, you forfeit your end of that social contract.”

A few years ago, a group of researchers and academics embarked on a bold experiment. They wanted to answer the following question: “Is it possible that people with no Ph.D. in any field could write a paper in that field every two weeks and get it published?”
In other words, they wanted to know whether they could write complete gibberish, and still have it published in a prestigious, peer-reviewed academic publication.
What they found was that, indeed, it is quite possible. In fact, it&#8217;s very easy.
For example, the researchers wrote one published <a href="https://newdiscourses.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/HootersPublished.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paper</a> that explored the conundrum of why straight men might like to eat at Hooters. The paper delved into a fake two-year study concerning a &#8220;thematic analysis of table dialogue&#8221; at Hooters, as well as the concept of &#8220;breastaurant masculinity.&#8221; Yes, &#8220;breastaurant masculinity.&#8221; They use the term about ten times in the paper, and apparently, every time, the editors loved it.
Another hoax paper discussed &#8220;rape culture and queer performativity&#8221; at dog parks in Portland. That one sailed past the editors as well. But maybe the hoaxers&#8217; most impressive work was their article entitled &#8220;Our Struggle Is My Struggle,&#8221; which lifted passages from “Mein Kampf” and placed them in a feminist journal of social work, totally undetected.
The whole exercise was pretty entertaining. And of course it proved its point, which is that peer-reviewed publications will publish anything that sounds like something a Left-wing intellectual would write. And then the experiment ended, and the hoaxers went about their normal lives.
Or at least, that&#8217;s the official story. A <a href="https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10806-024-09934-0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paper</a> that was just published in the peer-reviewed journal &#8220;Springer Nature,&#8221; out of Germany, has a lot of people questioning whether yet another hoax may be unfolding in the world of academia. To be clear — for reasons I&#8217;ll outline in a moment — it doesn&#8217;t look like a hoax. But a lot of people are hoping it is, because the alternative is just too depressing to contemplate.

A Ph.D. named Colin Wright first drew attention to the <a href="https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10806-024-09934-0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paper</a> the other day on social media. The paper is entitled, &#8220;Loving the Brine Shrimp: Exploring Queer Feminist Blue Posthumanities to Reimagine the ‘America’s Dead Sea.'&#8221;
The paper is written by someone named &#8220;Ewelina Jarosz,&#8221; who uses &#8220;she/they&#8221; pronouns and holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Cultural Research at &#8220;UKEN,&#8221; Poland.
Here&#8217;s what &#8220;she/they&#8221; came up with. The paper&#8217;s abstract <a href="https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10806-024-09934-0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>, 
<blockquote>The article aims to transform narratives surrounding Utah’s Great Salt Lake, often referred to as &#8216;America’s Dead Sea,&#8217; by reimagining how brine shrimp are perceived in science, culture, and art. It introduces the concept of hydrosexuality to bridge these realms, thereby enriching feminist blue posthumanities and feminist biology through art-based practices and queer advocacy. &#8230; The hydrosexual perspective challenges settler science by exploring the connections between the reproductive system of brine shrimp and the economy, ecology and culture. &#8230; this cultural analysis draws inspiration from low trophic theory and Queer Death Studies.</blockquote>
The paper goes on to explain that &#8220;hydrosexuality&#8221; is a term that emphasizes the &#8220;more-than-human sensuality and sexuality emphasizing fluidity and relationality&#8221; and &#8220;deploys watery thinking to dissolve&#8221; the &#8220;hegemonic notion of the autonomous and bounded human subject.&#8221;
At this point, you can see why people thought that the Hooters guys had struck again. But then Colin Wright noticed that, in this article, the authors referenced something called a &#8220;postmedia environmental performance&#8221; that they had recently performed in the Great Salt Lake in Utah. The performance was called, &#8220;Cyber Wedding to the Brine Shrimp.&#8221; The performance, according to the authors, was intended to &#8220;express their human love towards the vulnerable yet tough brine shrimp,&#8221; by means of &#8220;a communal bath in the GSL, which some of us, including myself, perceived as making love to the lake.&#8221;
So, naturally, Colin Wright and his followers went looking for the footage. If they could find it, it might demonstrate that these authors weren&#8217;t playing a prank — or if they were, they were really, really committed to the bit.
What Colin Wright and his followers found appears to confirm that this paper is, indeed, real. And the video is very much worth watching.
To be clear, normally, I wouldn&#8217;t subject you to extended footage of eco-sexuals doing their thing. But it&#8217;s been about eight months since I last talked about eco-sexuals, in the context of that show &#8220;Naked Attraction.&#8221; So we&#8217;ve had enough of a cooling-off period, I think. And if this footage is any indication, things are deteriorating very, very quickly in that community.
Here&#8217;s how the &#8220;Cyber Wedding to the Brine Shrimp&#8221; begins. You&#8217;ll notice that the Mystery Science Theater guys have been overlaid to the front of the footage for comedic effect, by one of Colin&#8217;s followers. Watch:

So it begins normally enough. The eco-sexuals announce their intent to marry the brine shrimp. We&#8217;ve all been there. And then, out of nowhere, we hear the voice of the &#8220;Spiral Jetty.&#8221;
That&#8217;s apparently a piece of &#8220;land art&#8221; that was constructed in 1970 by Robert Smithson in the Great Salt Lake. And as you heard, the Spiral Jetty apparently felt the need to insert himself and his personal problems into this wedding. He&#8217;s apparently dry and exposed, and he thinks that&#8217;s relevant to the wedding between these people and these brine shrimp.
So he doesn&#8217;t shut up. He keeps going and going. And eventually he devolves into reciting land acknowledgements. Watch:

No one thinks about getting rid of this guy at any point. That&#8217;s what&#8217;s really incredible about this. Imagine you&#8217;re getting married, and out of nowhere, some effeminate voice pipes up, and starts reciting a land acknowledgement. And then he tells you all about how your wedding will benefit him. Even if you&#8217;re an intersectional feminist, it&#8217;s enough to make you root for global warming to accelerate a little bit and ruin the whole beach.

But eventually the land art quiets down, and they&#8217;re allowed to recite the vows. And then there&#8217;s even more drama, because someone interrupts once again. This is a theme of these eco-sexual weddings, apparently. None of these people can shut up. Watch:

So they ask the shrimp for psychic consent. And one of them says, &#8220;I don&#8217;t hear no. &#8230; My sense is not all of them, but most of them.&#8221;
And apparently, that&#8217;s good enough for these people. They subscribe to the Harvey Weinstein school of ethics over there in Poland&#8217;s eco-sexual community, I suppose. So the marriage takes place, although there&#8217;s a caveat. As the paper puts it: &#8220;To avoid potential harm to living critters, vows were made to the brine shrimp’s exponentially enlarged augmented reality image, which popped up at the lake’s shore above the humans’ heads.&#8221;
And then they consummated the marriage by walking into the water with their hands in the air. Watch:

At this point, I have to come clean. 
I have to admit that I don&#8217;t have much of a grand overarching point to make about the wonders of feminist blue post humanities and hydrosexuality. These people are so far gone that you legitimately can&#8217;t tell if they&#8217;re mocking the very concept of humanities.
Let me simply state: We have clearly reached the logical end point of wokeness. Every &#8220;slippery slope&#8221; argument conservatives made for the past 50 years has been vindicated. When feminists are marrying the brine shrimp while a talking sculpture recites land acknowledgements in the background, it&#8217;s abundantly clear that wokeness has jumped the shark. (Although I hesitate to make that statement, because the next video might actually involve these people trying to jump some sharks. And that footage would, in all likelihood, be even more disturbing to watch than this &#8220;Cyber Wedding to the Brine Shrimp.&#8221;)
But all the same, these people (or their survivors) would probably be able to find some peer-reviewed publication to publish the footage anyway. After all, there is no bottom to modern-day academia. There are just queer women getting married to brine shrimp, all the way down. The hoaxers have become indistinguishable from the serious, credentialed feminist eco-sexual professors. And that is why eco-sexuals, peer-reviewed publications, and feminist academics who marry shrimp are canceled.

Senator Mike Lee sharply criticized Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Thursday for reportedly offering &#8220;scathing&#8221; remarks about former President Donald Trump and the &#8220;MAGA movement.&#8221;
McConnell slams Trump as a &#8220;narcissist&#8221; and a &#8220;sleazeball&#8221; in his forthcoming biography, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/23/politics/mcconnell-trump-gop-new-book/index.html">according to CNN</a>, adding that Trump has “done a lot of damage to our party’s image and our ability to compete.” Speaking to The Daily Wire Thursday, Lee slammed the Kentucky Republican for his comments.
&#8220;Openly hurting him, it&#8217;s just baffling to me,&#8221; Lee said. &#8220;I cannot figure it out&#8230; number one, he&#8217;s a Republican senator. Number two, he&#8217;s the Senate Republican leader. Number three, we are less than two weeks away from a general election in which these guys are in tight races.&#8221;
McConnell reportedly also says that “Trump is appealing to people who haven’t been as successful as other people and providing an excuse for that, that these more successful people have somehow been cheated, and you don’t deserve to think of yourself as less successful because things haven’t been fair.&#8221;
&#8220;If senate Republican leaders are going to come out and do these sorts of things, we need to have a conversation about it,&#8221; Lee said. &#8220;And we especially need to have a conversation between those who are running for Senate Republican leadership posts.&#8221;
