<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/university-of-florida" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of Florida’s</a> men’s basketball coach didn’t violate Title IX, an investigation into allegations from multiple women found.
Todd Golden was accused of sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, stalking, and cyberstalking by multiple women, some of whom were students, ESPN <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/43585673/florida-coach-todd-golden-cleared-title-ix-investigation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The school conducted a four-month-long investigation and determined there was “no evidence” Golden violated Title IX.
&#8220;The University of Florida takes these matters seriously and works deliberately to ensure that due process is upheld for everyone,&#8221; university spokesperson Steve Orlando said in a statement obtained by ESPN. &#8220;After a thorough investigation that included dozens of interviews over the past months, the University of Florida has found no evidence that Todd Golden violated IX. The Title IX office has closed its investigation.&#8221;
A spokesperson for the University Athletic Association also told ESPN that the matter was closed.
&#8220;We take these matters seriously and understand the need for the process to be conducted with strict confidentiality and discretion,&#8221; the UAA said in its statement to the outlet. &#8220;Throughout this process, Coach Golden has demonstrated tremendous focus and professionalism, and we commend him for that. As the Gators move forward, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting a championship experience with integrity.&#8221;
In a letter to one of the accusers, the university said that there was no evidence showing Golden had committed any sexual harassment during “a university program or activity,” which is required for it to be actionable under Title IX. During the Obama and Biden administrations, this definition was expanded to allow schools to act as quasi-judicial systems punishing students and staff for crimes that couldn’t be prosecuted in the actual courts. It allowed women to accuse men of actual crimes without needing to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt, as is needed in criminal court.
In Golden’s case, there do not appear to be any police reports of any of the actions he is accused of committing, hence the accuser’s use of school Title IX policies. But because the Biden administration’s policies were thrown out, schools must use definitions enacted during the first Trump administration, which narrowly define a school’s jurisdiction to punish accusations. Accusations that don’t involve settings and events directly tied to the school can no longer be used to damage someone’s reputation without going through proper legal channels.
It is unclear whether the university found the accusations to be false or unsupported, or whether the school simply didn’t have jurisdiction to proceed against Golden.
Golden’s attorney William Shepherd posted a statement saying the end of the investigation meant the complaints against his client were “meritless.”
&#8220;Coach Golden and I have respected the process throughout while actively engaging with the university. However, there were many who did not respect the investigative process,&#8221; Shepherd <a href="https://x.com/JonRothstein/status/1883918850548457552" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in the statement. &#8220;Instead, they sought to target Coach Golden and drive their agenda and this investigation for their own self-interest. Some leaked confidential material to the media; falsely posed as a UF lawyer in an effort to intimidate; harassed UF students and parents to try to generate a false narrative; and harassed my client, his family, and his friends.”
Shepherd did not respond to a Daily Wire inquiry prior to press time.
Attorney Karen Truszkowski, who represents one of the accusers, admitted to ESPN that the reported behavior didn’t fall under Title IX, but claimed &#8220;certainly evidence that there was questionable activity that occurred&#8221; at a university event attended by Golden, though she didn’t expand on that accusation to the outlet.
Golden himself posted <a href="https://x.com/CoachToddGolden/status/1883933459107963252" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a statement to X</a> following the investigation’s end, reminding people not to “rush to judgement based on allegations.” He also thanked his supporters.
In November, Golden suggested he was consulting with an attorney about whether to bring defamation cases against his accusers, but it is unclear whether he is pursuing the matter.

Former U.S. Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) announced on Thursday that he is stepping down as the president of the University of Florida because his wife was diagnosed with a serious medical condition that will require him to be home more often.
Sasse, who has been at the school since November 2022, said that his wife Melissa suffered an aneurysm and series of strokes in 2007 and that doctors had been preparing the family for the worst.
&#8220;We’ve battled some nasty seizures the last couple years, but she’s always remained a warrior,&#8221; he said. &#8220;In recent months, Melissa has been diagnosed with epilepsy and has been struggling with a new batch of memory issues. It’s been hard, but we’ve faced it together.&#8221;
He said that his role as a husband and a father takes priority over his professional career and that his wife &#8220;deserves a husband who can pull his weight, and my kids need a dad who can be home many more nights.&#8221;
&#8220;After extensive prayer and lots of family tears, I today asked UF Chair Mori Hosseini and our Board of Trustees to initiate a search for a new president of the university,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I need to step back for a time and focus more on the needs of my family while we rebuild more stable household systems.&#8221;
Mori Hosseini, chair of the Board of Trustees, said in a statement: “The Board of Trustees thanks Dr. Sasse for his service to the University of Florida. Under his leadership, UF has continued to advance on the national and international stage, benefiting our students, faculty, alumni, community and state. He has left a lasting impact on the university and all of those associated with it. We wish Ben all the best as he steps back to focus on his family.”

Daily Wire sports pundits Jake and Blain Crain and David Cone revealed their worst injuries sustained while on the set of “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/lady-ballers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lady Ballers</a>” Wednesday evening.
The Crain And Co. trio traveled to Gainesville, Florida, to attend a screening of their sports comedy “Lady Ballers” at the University of Florida. The screening was hosted by the university chapter of Young America&#8217;s Foundation. In the days leading up to the event, leftist student activists at the university <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftist-student-tries-to-erase-advertisement-for-yaf-screening-of-lady-ballers-claims-its-against-women" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tried</a> to erase advertising for the screening, claiming that the event was “against women.”
In a question-and-answer session after the screening, the hosts were asked about injuries they received on set. Blain went first.
“Probably the funniest one was with you,” he said, pointing at Jake. “I separated my shoulder on it. We got thrown through probably seven tables.”
“We got thrown through more tables than the stunt guys in both Road House movies,” Jake said as Blain compared the experience to WWE. Cone revealed that of all the tables broken throughout the movie, only one table-breaking scene was written into the original script.
“Only one table-throw scene was scripted, and Jeremy Boreing saw that thing and he said, ‘more, more physical comedy,’” Cone said.
Jake then revealed his most painful injury on set: an unscripted basketball to the groin.

“If you remember the scene in the movie where we are getting hit with the basketballs and I get hit in an area that’s awful to get hit at, that was totally on accident,” Jake said.
“What was supposed to happen was Eric, who I love, our stunt coordinator … he was supposed to hit me in the face with the ball. And I’d already been hit in the face three times,” he continued. “He was throwing it full speed and hitting me in the face to the point where I looked at Jeremy one time and I was like, ‘Dude, I got like maybe one more of those.’”
“Eric’s like, ‘I got it. I got it.’ So I’m standing there like, alright, about to get hit in the face, and – he’s so close to me,” Jake said. “He throws and hits me there, and that is a natural reaction. That reaction was 100 percent real. Everybody gasped.”
Blain chipped in: “It was so fun to watch.”
Jake said he was in so much pain, he had to “army crawl” away from set to recover.
“That saddest part of the whole deal was when I was crawling away and I looked to my brother to help and he is laughing almost to tears,” Jake said, “and he looks at Eric and goes, ‘Man, you’re a great shot.'&#8221;
Cone’s was not a blooper, but more of a testament to the grit and dedication the podcasters showed to completing the sports comedy.
“Mine’s not that cool. I just fractured my finger before filming, and then we shot for 30 days. It didn’t get a chance to heal. So, they were just like, ‘Hey, your finger is just like this now,'&#8221; Cone said.
“Crybaby,” Blain quipped.

The hosts also discussed the negative impact of transgender ideology and the inclusion of biological males in women’s sports. Cone said that the ultimate end of men competing in women’s sports is the end of women’s sports.
“The elimination of women in sports would be a net negative for us as a society. And that’s the ultimate culmination of allowing men to compete in these spaces. The bifurcation based off sex is one of the most basic ways to categorize in sports,” Cone said.

Researchers from the University of Florida said a new accidental discovery could help solve criminal activity or find missing persons after learning investigators could collect human DNA samples from the air.
According to <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41559-023-02056-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nature Ecology &amp; Evolution,</a> researchers learned the potential source for fighting crime while studying endangered sea turtles and analyzing sand samples at a beach where the reptiles lay eggs.
&#8220;We cough, spit, shed and flush our DNA into all of these places and countless more,&#8221; the university&#8217;s team said in a <a href="https://news.ufl.edu/2023/05/human-dna-everywhere-ethics/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news release</a>.
David Duffy, the UF professor of wildlife disease genomics who led the project, said the discovery of gathering genetic information from a scoop of sand, a vial of water, or a person&#8217;s breath presents ethical dilemmas that scientists and regulators could face about privacy and surveillance to data ownership.
&#8220;We&#8217;ve been consistently surprised throughout this project at how much human DNA we find and the quality of that DNA,&#8221; Duffy said. &#8220;In most cases, the quality is almost equivalent to if you took a sample from a person.&#8221;
Researchers said they collected human DNA everywhere they looked, except isolated islands and remote national parks. The team found samples near ocean and river waters surrounding the university&#8217;s Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience and Sea Turtle Hospital. Duffy said even as far as his native land of Ireland.
&#8220;It&#8217;s standard in science to make these sequences publicly available,&#8221; Duffy said. &#8220;But that also means if you don&#8217;t screen out human information, anyone can come along and harvest this information. That raises issues around consent.&#8221;
Now that human DNA could be found and readily sampled, Duffy urged lawmakers and the scientific communities to push for consent and privacy measures.
&#8220;Any time we make a technological advance, there are beneficial things that the technology can be used for and concerning things that the technology can be used for. It&#8217;s no different here,&#8221; Duffy said. &#8220;These are issues we are trying to raise early so policy makers and society have time to develop regulations.&#8221;

Former U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) officially resigned from the Senate on Sunday after reports broke last year that the congressman would pursue higher education opportunities.
Sasse, who has served as senator for Nebraska since 2015, resigned after accepting a position to become president of the University of Florida, where he will <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/3804549-sasse-officially-leaves-senate/">reportedly</a> earn a salary of $1 million.
The Republican politician delivered his farewell address from the Senate floor last week, saying that he never planned on spending a lifetime in Washington after eight years of public service.
&#8220;That&#8217;s not what our founders envisioned for the people they would send to the federal city,&#8221; Sasse <a href="https://www.sasse.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=1CC36A1D-A7C7-4FB8-A33C-390DECF8A0A1">said</a>. &#8220;They envisioned, rather, congressmen, senators, and presidents who thought of D.C. as a temporary stay.&#8221;
&#8220;Washington is a place to do a good bit of neighbor-loving work, but then to go back home to the more permanent work of life and flesh and blood whole communities,&#8221; he added.
Sasse voted with six other Republican senators to convict former President Donald Trump after the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
Trump called the Nebraska senator &#8220;Little Ben Sasse&#8221; at a May rally in the congressman&#8217;s home state, adding Sasse became a &#8220;grandstanding, little-respected senator.&#8221;
During his farewell speech, Sasse acknowledged that his relationship with Nebraskans had some &#8220;marked ups and downs&#8221; over the last eight years, making him &#8220;the most censured public official in the history of Nebraska.&#8221;
&#8220;Many times, it felt like a noogie and a slap and a head butt and a hug all at once,&#8221; he said.
Shortly after news broke of Sasse&#8217;s forthcoming retirement, the senator revealed that he would become the next president at the University of Florida.
The university said in a statement that it had spent months carefully vetting hundreds of applicants for the role and that the school&#8217;s 15-member presidential search committee &#8220;unanimously recommended United States Senator Dr. Ben Sasse as the sole finalist.&#8221;
Former Nebraska Republican Governor Pete Ricketts announced last month he intends to seek his successor&#8217;s appointment to become the state&#8217;s next U.S. senator to replace Sasse.
&#8220;For me, it came down to a single question: How can I best serve the people of Nebraska and advance our conservative values?&#8221; Ricketts said in a statement via The Hill. &#8220;In Congress, we&#8217;re in a fight for the future of our nation, and it&#8217;s a fight we have to win. We must cut taxes, strengthen public safety and our national security, and protect our most sacred freedoms.&#8221;
&#8220;Over the last eight years, we&#8217;ve shown the world the real impact conservative leadership can have,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I want to continue delivering results for our state, fighting to reduce taxes, grow our economy, defend our liberties, and run government more like a business. I&#8217;ll never stop working to get the job done, and that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m asking for Governor-elect [Jim] Pillen&#8217;s consideration.&#8221;
Sasse, who won a second term in 2020, would have had to run for re-election again in 2026.

Freshman quarterback Jalen Kitna of the University of Florida Gators was booked into a county jail Wednesday on ten felony complaints involving child pornography.
Local media <a href="https://www.tampabay.com/sports/gators/2022/11/30/florida-gators-jalen-kitna-arrest/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> sheriff and court records show authorities arrested Kitna and booked him into the Alachua County Jail on second-degree felony complaints, which accuse the college football player of possession with the intent to promote child pornography.
Florida law says evidence of possession with intent to promote includes having three or more copies of a video, photograph, or other representation.
University of Florida officials released the following statement after Kitna&#8217;s arrest.
&#8220;We are shocked and saddened to hear of the news involving Jalen Kitna,&#8221; the statement read, according to <a href="https://www.si.com/college/florida/football/florida-gators-jalen-kitna-arrested-wednesday-statement-child-pornography" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sports Illustrated</a>. &#8220;These are extremely serious charges, and the University of Florida and the UAA have zero tolerance for such behavior.&#8221;
&#8220;Jalen has been suspended indefinitely from the football program.&#8221; the statement added.
Gainesville Police Department told a local <a href="https://mycbs4.com/news/local/uf-quarterback-jalen-kitna-accused-of-possessing-child-pornography" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBS affiliate</a> that a search warrant with the Internet Crimes Against Children was served at 2308 SW 38th Drive #6 after receiving a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a Discord user distributed an image of child sexual abuse material.
Authorities said Kitna was arrested for two counts of child exploitation material and three counts of possession of child pornography.
Kitna, a three-star recruit who was listed as 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, is the son of NFL quarterback Jon Kitna, who played for the Bengals, Lions, Seahawks, and Cowboys during his career.
Before authorities arrested Kitna, the college athlete played four games this season as a redshirt sophomore. He completed 10 of his 14 passes for 181 yards and scored a touchdown against Eastern Washington in his debut game.
Kitna was a member of the University&#8217;s 2021 recruiting class.

I am pretty livid about this <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-47-america-is-just-like-qatar-florida-rescinded-scholarship-to-high-schooler-for-rapping-the-n-word-in-video-man-overdoses-on-fentanyl-at-disney-world-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">story</a>.
Have you heard of this white football player who lost a scholarship because he said the N-word on camera? Well, the story may not be what you think, but it does bring up a much-needed conversation around that word.
There is a young student named <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/florida-withdraws-scholarship-offer-to-qb-marcus-stokes-after-video-surfaces-of-him-rapping-racial-slur/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Marcus Stokes</a> who had an offer to come play Division 1 football at the University of Florida. That scholarship has now been rescinded, even after he apologized.
Why did he lose out on this opportunity? Because he said the N-word.
Now, you might be thinking, &#8216;Candace, that&#8217;s really bad. They caught him in a video on social media saying the N-word. That&#8217;s really, really wrong.&#8217;
Except, the context you&#8217;re missing here is that he was actually just rapping along to one of his favorite songs — a song that says the N-word repeatedly. So because he&#8217;s the wrong color — Stokes is white — and was singing that song, he now gets his scholarship rescinded.
Now, why is that problematic? 
Because I&#8217;m getting sick and tired of these double standards. It drives me crazy that we are allowed to put this word in music. 
Then we turn around and say to society, depending on what color you are, you may or may not be allowed to say it.
Could you imagine that? 
Imagine if there was a word that only white people could say and black people couldn’t say it. And not only could white people say it, but white people were saying it perpetually — saying it every other word, putting it in every other sentence, putting it in their music, saying whatever word it was.
Then suddenly a black person came around and said it, and white people responded by saying, “Oh, you are going to have your life ruined. You can&#8217;t go to university because this is some special word we&#8217;ve decided only white people are allowed to say.”
You might call that — I don&#8217;t know — racism in and of itself.
You might even go so far as to describe it as segregation.
The same people who are demanding we put an end to the past and put an end to racist policies are also saying there is some special category that allows black people to partake in a word that nobody should say.
If it&#8217;s a bad word, then it needs to be bad all around. Nobody should be saying it.
It can’t only be bad when some people say it.
It is such peak stupidity to suggest that a word that is derogatory can somehow be &#8216;reclaimed&#8217; and &#8216;powerful.&#8217;
The only people who believe that are those who believe black people are stupid. Why? Because everything that they tell us is “ours” is dysfunctional. 
&#8216;Oh, that&#8217;s yours. You degrade yourself. Yeah. You guys, you&#8217;ve got it covered. Why should we even call black people the N-word, when they&#8217;re so proud to call themselves the N-word? In fact, we&#8217;re going to make them think that they have such a stake and a claim on that dirty word, that they&#8217;re going to start yelling i f White people say it, because white people are too good to say that word.&#8217;
Is that the idea that we&#8217;re basically saying? Because that&#8217;s what it suggests to me.
It suggests that white people own a better part of the language. They don&#8217;t use derogatory terms like this.
Yet black people need to feel that it&#8217;s proprietary to us.
I think that the University of Florida should be ashamed of itself.
In fact, if this was my child, I&#8217;d be suing them. I would go through the social media channels of every single player on that team — every single student that I could find who went to the University of Florida — and if I found even one student that was black and was saying that word, who did not have their scholarship rescinded or their place at the university taken away, I would say this is discriminatory and take them to court. 
The truth is we already have in place policies that prevent racial discrimination.
What this is on its face is racial discrimination. And it makes me upset that this person issued an apology.
He said, “My intent was never to hurt anybody. And I recognize that even going along with the song, my words still carry a lot of weight.”
That is ridiculous. And his parents should never have made him issue that apology.
It makes somebody a weaker individual to do something that makes entirely no sense.
And you want to know one of the great ironies in all of this? Typically the white kids who are rapping along to black music and dropping the N-word — are the least racist white people in society. They are partaking in black culture.
Call me crazy, but I thought when Martin Luther King had a dream, that was it — for people to engage in one another&#8217;s cultures or people to come together and to celebrate one another. It might have been for people like Marcus Stokes to say, “I like this rap artist so much and I want to learn all of the lyrics to his song”
Only to be told “Nope, nope, nope, nope. That&#8217;s not for you. Maybe just listen to white people&#8217;s music. That would be less discriminatory — somehow.”

U.S. Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ben-sasse" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ben Sasse</a> (R-NE) will become the next president at the University of Florida, the senator and the university announced in separate statements Thursday afternoon.
The news came just minutes after a NewsRadio 1110 KFAB’s Ian Swanson, a former staffer for Sasse, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-republican-senator-ben-sasse-to-resign-report-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">broke the news</a> that Sasse was going to retire from the U.S. Senate.
&#8220;The University of Florida is uniquely positioned to lead this country through an era of disruption,&#8221; Sasse said in a statement. &#8220;The single biggest challenge our nation faces is the radical disruption of work. Technology is changing everything about where, when, why, what, and how Americans work and so it&#8217;s changing our homes, neighborhoods, and communities too.&#8221;
Sasse said that he has been courted by top universities over the last couple of years, but that he and his wife had resisted attempts to lure him out of the Senate.
Sasse said this time was different though because he views the University of Florida as &#8220;the most interesting university in America right now.&#8221;
&#8220;Melissa and I have been pursued by wonderful institutions the past two years, but we&#8217;ve resisted being named a finalist,” Sasse said. “This time is different because the University of Florida is very different: I think Florida is the most interesting university in America right now.&#8221;
The University of Florida said in a statement that they spent months carefully vetting hundreds of applicants for the role and that the school&#8217;s 15-member presidential search committee &#8220;unanimously recommended United States Senator Dr. Ben Sasse as the sole finalist to become the University of Florida&#8217;s 13th president.&#8221;
&#8220;Dr. Sasse currently serves as a U.S. Senator from Nebraska and is a former college president, highly accomplished scholar and nationally recognized authority on higher education,&#8221; the school said.

Richardson said that he made the decision to change his &#8220;AR-15&#8221; nickname, which combines his initials with his jersey number, and his scope reticle logo after speaking to those closest to him.
&#8220;After discussions with my family and much thought, I have decided to no longer use the nickname &#8216;AR-15&#8217; and the current apparel line logo, which features a scope reticle, as part of my branding. While a nickname is only a nickname and &#8216;AR-15&#8217; was simply a representation of my initials combined with my jersey number, it is important to me that my name and brand are no longer associated with the assault rifle that has been used in mass shootings, which I do not condone in any way or form.&#8221;
In his tweet, Richardson referenced the term &#8220;assault rifle,&#8221; which many on the Left erroneously believe the &#8220;AR&#8221; in &#8220;AR-15&#8221; stands for. In fact, the &#8220;AR&#8221; in AR-15 stands for &#8220;ArmaLite Rifle,&#8221; the company that designed the gun in 1956. There is no official definition for what is considered an &#8220;assault rifle&#8221; or an &#8220;assault weapon,&#8221; as those descriptors have virtually <a href="https://abc7amarillo.com/news/local/gun-experts-say-theres-no-such-thing-as-an-assault-weapon">nothing</a> to do with the functionality of the weapon and instead are attached to weapons that Left-wing activists deem to be scary looking.
&#8220;My representatives and I are currently working on rebranding, which includes the creation of a new logo and transitioning to simply using &#8216;AR&#8217; and my name, Anthony Richardson,&#8221; Richardson&#8217;s statement concluded.

ESPN <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34259562/florida-gators-qb-anthony-richardson-distancing-ar-15-nickname-branding">noted</a> that the decision was likely driven by college athletes&#8217; new ability to make money from their name, image, and likeness.
Richardson, who will be a sophomore this upcoming season, had already launched a clothing company last year selling jerseys, shirts, and other gear.
Richardson only <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/gamelog/_/id/4429084/anthony-richardson">played</a> in seven games last season as a freshman, amassing 529 passing yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions. He also had 401 yards rushing with three touchdowns.
Despite only seeing limited action last season, and with only one career start, Richardson &#8220;debuted at No. 13 on ESPN NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr.&#8217;s Big Board of prospects in May,&#8221; ESPN added.
Despite all the hype surrounding Richardson, the 6&#8242; 4&#8243; 236-pounder is not guaranteed to be the team&#8217;s starting quarterback this upcoming season as he will have to beat out Ohio State transfer Jack Miller.

Burmese pythons seem to only get bigger and bigger, according to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, which recently announced its third record-breaking discovery in the last decade of the largest python found to date in the Sunshine State. 
Weighing in at 215 pounds and measuring nearly 18 feet in length—about the size of a shipping container—three wildlife biologists from the Conservancy captured the female python using radio transmitters implanted in small male &#8220;scout&#8221; snakes. Those transmitters allow researchers to understand python movements, breeding behaviors, and habit use.
&#8220;How do you find the needle in the haystack? You could use a magnet, and in a similar way our male scout snakes are attracted to the biggest females around,&#8221; said Ian Bartoszek, wildlife biologist and environmental science project manager for the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in a statement.
Bartoszek said the team placed a male scout snake name Dionysus—or Dion for short—in the western Everglades, where he slithered around for several weeks.
&#8220;We knew he was there for a reason,&#8221; he said.
Bartoszek and the team found Dion with the largest female snake they had ever seen and attempted to restrain the massive snake. However, the female python didn&#8217;t go down without a fight. 
In a press conference last week, biologist Ian Easterling said the python balled up her tail and made an attempt to tail whip the team. While Bartoszek and intern Kyle Findley dodged the attack, the snake slapped Easterling in the face.
&#8220;She put up a pretty good fight,&#8221; Easterling said. 
Twenty minutes later, the team captured the python.
Researchers also said another record-breaking discovery was made when they found the snake had carried 122 developing eggs within her abdomen during the necropsy. The finding set a new limit for the highest number of eggs a female python can potentially produce during a breeding cycle.

During the necropsy, researchers determined the python had an adult white-tailed deer hoof cores found in her digestive system, which is also a primary food source for the endangered Florida panther. 
Although researchers discovered the python in December, the Conservancy made the announcement last week after <a href="https://www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/article/largest-burmese-python-ever-found-in-florida??rid=&amp;cmpid=org=ngp::mc=crm-email::src=ngp::cmp=editorial::add=Planet_Possible_20220621&amp;irgwc=1&amp;irclickid=yo3XH1Wc4zqxR6xW5HQ3vyqGUkDwxcxhUQh3y80&amp;cmpid=org%3Dngp%3A%3Amc%3Daffiliate%3A%3Asrc%3Daffiliate%3A%3Acmp%3Dsubs_aff%3A%3Aadd%3DSkimbit%20Ltd.">National Geographic</a> published an exclusive article. The article highlights how Burmese pythons have caused rapid reproduction and depletion of surrounding native wildlife, making them invasive species.
In addition to the Conservancy researchers finding dozens of white-tailed deer inside Burmese pythons during necropsies, colleagues at the University of Florida have also seen 24 species of mammals, 47 species of birds, and two reptile species from the stomach of pythons.

&#8220;The removal of female pythons plays a critical role in disrupting the breeding cycle of these apex predators that are wreaking havoc on the Everglades ecosystem and taking food sources from other native species,&#8221; Bartoszek said. &#8220;This is the wildlife issue of our time for southern Florida.&#8221;
Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said in a press conference earlier this month, &#8220;It&#8217;s just unbelievable what they will ravage when they&#8217;re there.&#8221;
&#8220;These snakes are destroying the natural food chain, and you can&#8217;t have a healthy environment without a healthy food chain,&#8221; DeSantis said. 
DeSantis said the state of Florida had spent more than $3 million on removing pythons using tools and technology to detect such large snakes. 
&#8220;The Everglades, of course, is a diverse ecosystem, and we are protecting this ecosystem in a variety of different ways,&#8221; DeSantis said.
The last time Bartoszek and his team made a record-breaking discovery was in 2016, when they came upon a 185-pound Burmese python. Two years earlier, they found the first 100-pound python. 
&#8220;We don&#8217;t really consider pythons big until they top 100 pounds, so now I need a new description for a 200-pound python,&#8221; Bartoszek said. &#8220;It&#8217;s just next level for us.&#8221;
The Conservancy established a python program in 2013. Since its founding, they have removed over 1,000 pythons weighing more than 26,000 pounds of adult pythons from approximately 100 square miles in southwestern Florida.

First asked whether they agreed with NBA star Lebron James’ perspective that the entire police system needed to be reformed, students at the University of Florida agreed, but when they were subsequently enlightened that James had reportedly in the past used “police for private security” and “had an entire police escort block off traffic for him to go to a Jay-Z concert,” they agreed that James had exhibited hypocrisy in his criticism of police.
Campus Reform correspondent Leana Dippie went to the University of Florida, where she stated to some students, “So, recently a lot of celebrities have come out saying the police system need drastic reform. LeBron James has said that, the entire system is problematic and needs reform, Do you agree with his comments?”
Some answers included:
<blockquote>Yeah, I think that’s really true. Honestly, that they need reform, I agree with that.
100%.
I definitely think it needs work; I definitely think it needs reform.
Obviously I can’t speak to the struggles of people who aren’t my background and my ethnicity and all that, but I do think there are some things that need to be changed.
Yeah. There is a lot of systematic violence involved with the system, and I believe that the way the system is structured does contribute to that. If they change to more of a crime prevention, rather than using just brute force against crime, I believe that could have a better result in the long-term.</blockquote>
But then Dippie confronted the same students with this: “LeBron James: he uses police for private security; he has also had an entire police escort block off traffic for him to go to a Jay-Z concert.  He has hired private security for his home. Do you think it’s hypocritical that LeBron is so publicly critical of the police when he’s using them for his own personal protection?”
The answers she got included one female student answering, “I guess so, but I don’t really think that much, cause I think he was referring to general public, and like, public police forces, I see the point, but I think he’s using that for his own security and he knows that he trusts them, rather than referring to the public police force, who’s done bad things for bad reasons.” When Dippie prompted, “Well, the picture that I showed you was public police he was using,” The student replied, “Yeah, I can see  how it can be hypocritical, in some sense.”
Other responses:

I think, in some sense the extent that he went to could be hypocritical.
Partially, yes. I mean, if you have the money to do that and to hire people privately I would say it’s like borderline hypocritical. It’s a little bit, obviously.</blockquote>
One female student argued, “Him being hypocritical doesn’t take away from the fact that there still needs to be reform and that there are existing issues with the police that need to be addressed.”

A new video released Thursday morning showed that students at the University of Florida were stunned by President Joe Biden&#8217;s recent remarks about the genocide in China.
During a CNN town hall event last week, Biden <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/02/19/mcmaster-biden-bigotry-china-town-hall-comments-uighurs/">said</a> in part, “Culturally, there are different norms that each country and their leaders are expected to follow.” The Washington Post noted that Biden said China would face consequences for its actions.
Campus Reform reporter Ophelie Jacobson went to the University of Florida to ask students about the remark and to ask them which president they thought said it, if the comment bothered them, and if they thought that the U.S. needed to be tougher on China.
The majority of the students thought that Trump made the remark, none guessed Biden. All of them were stunned that Biden made the remark and, for the most part, all of them said they thought the U.S. needed to be tougher on China.

STUDENT 3: It&#8217;s like sad that like people are like, being like killed just for like being them. And like, I guess there should be like, more awareness, I think.
STUDENT 4: It&#8217;s kind of appalling that nothing&#8217;s really been done about it [inaudible] national scale.
JACOBSON: So I want to read you a quote and I would like you to tell me which president you think said it. So the quote is, &#8216;and so the idea that I am not going to speak out against what he&#8217;s doing in Hong Kong,&#8217; and when he says &#8216;he,&#8217; he&#8217;s referring to the Chinese president, &#8216;what he&#8217;s doing with the Uyghurs in the western mountains of China and Taiwan, trying to end the One China policy by making it forceful, he gets it. Culturally, there are different norms that each country and their leaders are expected to follow.&#8217; Who do you think said that?
STUDENT 5: I&#8217;m going to go ahead and guess Donald Trump.
STUDENT 3: Trump.
STUDENT 6: I would probably also say Trump. 
STUDENT 7: Trump or Clinton.

STUDENT 9: I think Donald Trump is the one who said that.
JACOBSON: So, what if I were to tell you that it was actually President Biden, who said this one week ago in a town hall?

STUDENT 5: I&#8217;m surprised. I&#8217;m very surprised by that.
STUDENT 8: You would hope that something this egregious would elicit a stronger response from the U.S. president, especially in a country that&#8217;s sort of a rival already.
STUDENT 6: I like, it was surprising for me to hear that that came from Biden, it doesn&#8217;t seem like the type of thing that he would believe in. 
STUDENT 3: You would think that he would want to like help or whatever and stuff and then he says, like, oh, that&#8217;s just like what the leader should do and stuff.
STUDENT 1: It did surprise me. But I think that&#8217;s where the people come in. I think that just because we elected a president that supports our views doesn&#8217;t mean we can stop holding them accountable. We continually have to pressure them into making the right choices.
STUDENT 3: Joe Biden campaigned heavily on like uniting people and, you know, strengthening ties with other countries, and overall, just being a very humanitarian person. So, the fact that he believes that policy, and he has that sort of mindset is very shocking to me.
JACOBSON: Does it bother you that a sitting US president basically just called a mass genocide &#8216;a cultural norm&#8217;? 
STUDENT 9: Yeah.
STUDENT 1: Oh, it does bother me.
STUDENT 3: Yeah, definitely. I voted for him. So it&#8217;d be like, you know, he&#8217;s not like, representing my views.
STUDENT 5: Yes.
STUDENT 6: Yes.
STUDENT 9: That&#8217;s not right.
STUDENT 5: Yes, I&#8217;m disappointed that a sitting US president would say that.
JACOBSON: Do you think that Biden needs to be tougher on China?
STUDENT 3: I guess he needs to, like, work on bettering like the genocide I guess, like getting more involved.
STUDENT 4: Probably. 
STUDENT 1: Absolutely. The genocide is not okay. Whether it&#8217;s in our country or you know, 1,000 miles away.
STUDENT 9: I wouldn&#8217;t want a sitting president like not doing that, like not, like letting that slide is not okay.
STUDENT 5: Probably. Yeah. After hearing that, yes.
STUDENT 8: It&#8217;s yeah, definitely a country that any US president should probably be willing to stand up to.</blockquote>
