Employers in the United States added <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/archives/empsit_04032026.htm">178,000</a> jobs in March, more than tripling expectations of  <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/02/the-march-jobs-report-will-be-released-on-friday-heres-what-to-expect.html">59,000</a>, while the unemployment rate dropped to 4.3%.        
The labor market rebounded after a lackluster February report, which showed payrolls declined by 133,000 jobs and the unemployment rate rose slightly. Job gains in March were led by healthcare, construction, transportation, and warehouse. Healthcare added 76,000 jobs. About half of those gains reflect the return of workers who had been on strike.

Construction added 26,000 jobs, while transportation and warehousing grew by 21,000, signaling continued strength in infrastructure and logistics-related sectors. Leisure and hospitality rebounded partly due to warmer weather last month, adding 44,000 jobs. Manufacturing added 15,000, but finance lost that same amount.
Federal government employment continued to decline, falling by 18,000 jobs in March and down 355,000 from its peak in October 2024 during the Biden administration.
Wages also continued to rise. Average hourly earnings increased by 0.2% in March to $37.38, following gains in February. 
Markets are closed today for Good Friday, but the stronger-than-expected jobs report may influence investor expectations when trading resumes. A resilient labor market could also reduce pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, as the central bank has pointed to persistently elevated inflation as a reason to hold off on easing policy.

The job market just delivered a reality check.
Instead of the job gains economists were expecting, the U.S. economy lost 92,000 jobs in February, according to new federal data. Forecasters had predicted employers would add about 50,000 jobs. The unemployment rate also ticked up to 4.4%, signaling the labor market may be cooling after several years of strong hiring.
The weaker-than-expected report comes as businesses face a mix of economic uncertainty and rapid technological change that is beginning to reshape hiring across several industries.
One bright spot in the report was wages. Average hourly earnings for private-sector workers rose by 15 cents in February, continuing a recent trend of steady wage growth that has helped many workers keep pace with inflation.
The federal government workforce continued shrinking, shedding another 10,000 jobs last month. Since October, federal employment has declined by roughly 333,000 positions, reflecting ongoing efforts to reduce government payrolls.
And the job losses weren’t limited to just one corner of the economy.
Healthcare, which saw strong hiring in January, lost 28,000 jobs, with strike activity cited as the primary driver behind the decline.
Transportation and warehousing also fell by 11,000 jobs, concentrated among couriers and messengers — a category that includes major delivery companies such as UPS and FedEx. UPS recently announced plans to reduce its workforce as part of a broader restructuring effort.
The information sector, which includes telecommunications companies, cloud services, digital media, and publishing, also declined by 11,000 jobs.
Some areas did see modest gains. Social assistance, which includes services supporting families, children, seniors, and vulnerable populations, added 9,000 jobs in February.
Meanwhile, employment in construction, manufacturing, retail, financial services, and hospitality showed little change during the month.
In short, the hiring boom may finally be slowing down.
Economists and employers say a mix of economic uncertainty, automation, and rapid advances in artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping hiring decisions across the economy.

New federal data released Friday showed inflation slowing and wages rising in January, trends the Trump administration says signal improving affordability.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that consumer prices rose 2.4% last month, below the 2.5% forecast. Markets rose following the news.
Average hourly earnings rose <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf">3.7%</a> over the past year, outpacing inflation and reflecting real wage growth. Private-sector employers added more than 170,000 jobs in January.
“We saw real wage growth in 2025,&#8221; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said. &#8220;It could be very strong in 2026, and I think the American people are going to start feeling it.”
The White House said the data reflect the success of President Donald Trump&#8217;s economic policies.
“President Trump has defeated Joe Biden’s inflation crisis in record time,&#8221; said White House Spokesperson Taylor Rogers. &#8220;Inflation is low, wages are up, and the American economy is booming — all thanks to President Trump’s pro-growth agenda. President Trump is working hard to Make America Affordable Again — just like he promised.” 
&#8220;Real wages are up $1,400 in 2025 — nearly half of Biden era real wage decline made up for in just one year thanks to President Trump,&#8221; said White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai. &#8220;This is just the beginning: President Trump&#8217;s MFN drug pricing deals, tax cuts, trade deals, and deregulation are just starting to take effect.&#8221;
When President Joe Biden took office in 2021, annual inflation was running at 1.9%. During his term, inflation averaged 4.9% and peaked at 9.1% in 2022. Biden signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan in 2021, which included $1,400 direct payments to Americans.
“Joe Biden crashed the economy,” Bessent said. “The policies were a disaster for the American people.” 
Bessent argued that the Biden administration boosted demand through increased government spending while constraining supply with tighter regulations, driving up inflation. 
The January data marks the latest sign that inflationary pressures may be easing as the administration pushes its affordability agenda.

Delayed <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm">reports</a> reveal that while the U.S. economy picked up 64,000 jobs in November, it saw a decline of 105,000 in October following the Trump administration’s cutbacks to federal staff.
A drop of 162,000 federal employees fueled October’s overall job losses, with many resigning on September 30 under mounting pressure from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project to reduce the federal payroll. The Deferred Resignation Program (DRP), informally known as the “Fork in the Road” and part of the DOGE initiative, gave federal employees the option to resign early with continued pay and benefits through the end of September if they accepted the offer by a set deadline.
Historically, six-figure drops in federal employment have occurred during wartime and in the years following a decennial census. The reductions contributed to a rising unemployment rate, which reached its highest level since 2021 at 4.6%.
The job creation numbers were delayed due to the 43-day government shutdown.
In November, private payrolls expanded by 69,000, building on October’s increase of 52,000 jobs. Gains were recorded in healthcare, construction, and retail, while manufacturing, leisure and hospitality, and transportation and warehousing experienced declines. 
“I think that from the private sector point of view…it’s a solid upward trajectory,” said National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett. “The President’s private sector job creation since he took office is about 700,000 jobs.”

The Department of Labor underscored this point.

Although the newly released figures carry some qualifications, the report will shape how investors assess next year’s interest-rate trajectory. The Federal Reserve cut rates for a third consecutive meeting last week to bolster what Chair Jerome Powell described as a “gradually cooling” job market facing “significant” risks of further weakening.
Manhattan Institute Fellow Allison Schraeger <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/video/2025/12/16/watch-cnbcs-full-interview-with-the-squawk-box-jobs-panel.html">says</a> this month’s job reports could lead to a future Federal Reserve rate cut. “If you are looking for an excuse to cut further, you could probably say the labor market is weakening and I’m going to do something about it.”

Federal Workforce Shrinks By 162,000 As Unemployment Spikes To Four-Year High

A year apart, President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden both touted September job growth — but the source of that growth couldn’t be more different. Under Trump, the federal workforce shrank, while under Biden, it expanded.
Thursday’s jobs report showed an overall increase of <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf">119,000 jobs</a>, with the bulk coming from the private sector.
“The job growth was driven almost entirely by private-sector job gains,” stated the White House in a press release. Health care and construction industries led the way — adding 43,000 and 19,000 jobs, respectively. And while the private sector grew, the public sector shrank.
“Federal government employment continued to decline in September and is down 97,000 since reaching a peak in January,” the report showed. That figure may even understate the true contraction, as workers on severance are still counted as employed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
On the other hand, <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/archives/empsit_10042024.pdf#:~:text=Household%20Survey%20Data%20Both%20the%20unemployment%20rate%2C,number%20of%20unemployed%20people%20was%206.3%20million.">Biden’s September 2024 report</a> told a different story. “Employment in government continued its upward trend in September,” the report stated. Under Biden, government jobs averaged a monthly gain of 45,000.
When Trump took office, federal jobs were at a peak. He implemented a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-extends-the-hiring-freeze/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">federal hiring freeze</a> initially scheduled to end July 15, which was later extended indefinitely. Once the freeze expires, federal agencies can hire no more than one employee for every four employees who depart from federal service. The freeze makes exceptions for jobs related to immigration, law enforcement, and public safety. Trump framed the reduction as a correction of the previous administration&#8217;s growth. The hiring freeze fact sheet explains, “In the last two years of the Biden administration, the government was directly responsible for the creation of more than 1 in every 4 jobs.”
Campaigning on eliminating waste, the Trump administration says the freeze is necessary to address the “billions of dollars wasted each year on duplicative programs and frivolous expenditures that fail to align with American values or address the needs of the American people.”
Not stopping at limiting new hires, the Office of Personnel Management estimates that by the end of the year, more than 300,000 federal employees will have left or lost their jobs. The Trump administration says it hopes many of those workers transition to private-sector positions.
The strength of private-sector job growth complicates the Federal Reserve’s path. CNBC’s Steve Liesman said the report “bolsters the case of the hawks on the FOMC who have said they do not see serious deterioration in the labor market … a robust report.”
According to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, without a weakening labor market, the case for a December rate cut becomes much harder.
At November’s Federal Open Market Committee meeting, Powell described a difficult balance: a tight labor market alongside higher-than-desired inflation. Ultimately, the Fed decided on a rate cut to avoid further disruption to employment.
“We’re in a difficult situation,” Powell said at the National Association for Business Economics. “If we move too quickly, then we may leave the inflation job unfinished. If we move too slowly, there may be painful losses in the employment market.”

Topline: Israel conducted a precision strike against senior Hamas leaders in Qatar on Tuesday, just a day after the terror group rejected a new ceasefire proposal from President Trump.
The strike targeted top Hamas officials who have been living and operating out of Qatar, which has served as a protected refuge for the terror group&#8217;s leadership. It appears to be the first time Israel has struck Hamas officials inside the country. Qatar condemned the attack as a &#8220;blatant violation of all international laws and norms.&#8221; The White House said the U.S. was notified of the attack ahead of time and, in turn, informed Qatar. President Trump &#8220;believes this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for peace,&#8221; said Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
The strike came shortly after Hamas rejected a new peace proposal from the Trump administration, calling it a &#8220;humiliating surrender document.&#8221; The proposal would have required Hamas to release all remaining hostages in exchange for Israel releasing thousands of Palestinian prisoners.
The events follow a separate Hamas terror attack in Jerusalem on Monday that killed six people and wounded 12 others.

Topline: The Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday announced that it had overcounted U.S. jobs by nearly one million last year, the largest downward revision in American history, confirming President Trump’s claims that the economy he inherited was far weaker than reported.
In its annual revision, the BLS announced that from March 2024 to March 2025, the economy added 910,000 fewer jobs than was initially reported. The more than 50% downward revision means the economy was adding only 70,000 jobs per month during that period, not 147,000. The White House said the news makes it &#8220;very clear that President Trump inherited a much worse economy &#8230; than ever reported&#8221; and proves that the Federal Reserve&#8217;s interest rate policy has been &#8220;far too restrictive.&#8221;
The massive revision reinforces the president&#8217;s push to overhaul the BLS, an agency he has accused of producing inaccurate data. &#8220;Much like the CDC, everything is wrong with the Bureau of Labor Statistics,&#8221; said Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS), who is in charge of confirming Trump&#8217;s nominee to lead the agency. &#8220;We need someone &#8230; to come in there and turn that place upside down.&#8221;
The shocking report makes it much more likely that the Fed will finally cut interest rates later this month, a move President Trump has been demanding for months.

The jobs market during former President Joe Biden’s last year in office was much worse than previously reported, data released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveal.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/prebmk.nr0.htm">revised</a> job numbers showing that there were 911,000 fewer jobs than reported from April 2024 to March 2025. The Trump administration responded to the massive overcount by saying it demonstrated the need for new leadership at the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“Today, the BLS released the largest downward revision on record proving that President Trump was right: Biden’s economy was a disaster and the BLS is broken,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “This is exactly why we need new leadership to restore trust and confidence in the BLS’ data on behalf of the financial markets, businesses, policymakers, and families that rely on this data to make major decisions.”
Last month, President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-fires-biden-appointed-labor-statistics-boss-after-major-revisions-to-jobs-reports">fired</a> BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, accusing her of manipulating the jobs numbers for political purposes. Trump has nominated Heritage Foundation economist E.J. Antoni to take her place.
Leavitt added that Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell should respond to the news by cutting interest rates, saying that he had “run out of excuses” not to do so. Trump has been pressuring Powell to lower interest rates for months and has even floated the idea of firing the Fed chair.
The revisions indicate that the Bureau of Labor Statistics overcounted private sector non-farm jobs by 880,000 and government employment by 31,000. In the private sector, jobs were overcounted by 126,200 in retail trade, 110,300 in wholesale trade, leisure and hospitality by 176,000, professional and business service by 158,000, and manufacturing by 95,000.
“Considering these reports are the foundation of economic forecasts and major policy decisions, there is no room for such a significant and consistent amount of error. It’s imperative for the data to remain accurate, impartial, and never altered for political gain,” said Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
“Leaders at the bureau failed to improve their practices during the Biden administration, utilizing outdated methods that rendered a once reliable system completely ineffective and calling into question the motivation behind their inaction,” she added.

Americans are deeply concerned over the prospect that advances in artificial intelligence could put swaths of the country out of work permanently, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The six-day poll, which concluded on Monday, showed 71% of respondents said they were concerned that AI will be &#8220;putting too many people out of work permanently.&#8221;
The new technology burst into the national conversation in late 2022 when OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT chatbot launched and became the fastest-growing application of all time, with tech heavyweights like Facebook owner Meta Platforms, Google owner Alphabet and Microsoft offering their own AI products.
While at present there are few signs of mass unemployment &#8211; the U.S. jobless rate was just 4.2% in July &#8211; artificial intelligence is stirring concerns as it reshapes jobs, industries and day-to-day life.
Some 77% of respondents to the Reuters/Ipsos poll said they worried the technology could be used to stir up political chaos, a sign of unease over the now-common use of AI technology to create realistic videos of imaginary events.
Americans are also leery about military applications for AI, the Reuters/Ipsos poll showed. Some 48% of respondents said the government should never use AI to determine the target of a military strike, compared with 24% who said the government should allow that sort of use of the technology. Another 28% said they were not sure.
The general enthusiasm for AI shown by many people and companies has fueled further investments, such as Foxconn and SoftBank&#8217;s planned data center equipment factory in Ohio. It has also upended national security policies as the United States and China vie for AI dominance.
More than half of Americans &#8211; some 61% &#8211; said they were concerned about the amount of electricity needed to power the fast-growing technology.

Google said earlier this month it had signed agreements with two U.S. electric utilities to reduce its AI data center power consumption during times of surging demand on the grid, as energy-intensive AI use outpaces power supplies.
The new technology has also come under criticism for applications that have let AI bots hold romantic conversations with children, generate false medical information and help people make racist arguments.
Two-thirds of respondents in the Reuters/Ipsos poll said they worried that people would ditch relationships with other people in favor of AI companions.
People were split on whether AI technology will improve education. Some 36% of respondents thought it would help, while 40% disagreed and the rest were not sure.
The Reuters/Ipsos survey gathered responses online from 4,446 U.S. adults nationwide and had a margin of error of about 2 percentage points.

In April, President Trump imposed global reciprocal tariffs on the United States’ trading partners, invoking his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977, to address the national <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-national-emergency-to-increase-our-competitive-edge-protect-our-sovereignty-and-strengthen-our-national-and-economic-security/">emergency</a> posed by the large and persistent trade deficit” driven by the lack of reciprocity in the country’s trade relationship.
President Trump also wanted to see jobs and factories come “<a href="https://www.business-standard.com/world-news/trump-wants-us-to-make-things-again-but-is-it-ready-for-the-challenge-125060400675_1.html">roaring back</a>” to the United States.
The idea that the United States can become a manufacturing powerhouse is an attractive one, to politicians on both sides of the aisle. After all, who would not be in favor of economic revitalization, new jobs, improved security, and economic independence? However, America’s ability to establish manufacturing dominance faces insurmountable challenges… unless we are smart about the industries we “bring home.”
Historically, the United States has never been a true manufacturing superpower.
Manufacturing employment in the United States peaked in 1979, with nearly 20 million workers employed in the “manufacturing sector.” Over the next four decades, manufacturing entered a structural decline, and the United States transitioned to a service-oriented economy. By 2020, “the <a href="https://www.blackrock.com/us/financial-professionals/insights/exploring-us-manufacturing#:~:text=In%201979%2C%20U.S.%20employment%20in,a%20more%20service%2Doriented%20economy.">service</a> sector dominated the economy,” accounting for 79% of the nation&#8217;s Gross Domestic Product, up from 52% in 1950, and represented 80% of the nation’s total employment. In 2025, fewer than 13 million <a href="https://nam.org/mfgdata/facts-about-manufacturing-expanded/">workers</a> were in the manufacturing sector.
The challenges for the United States to become a manufacturing superpower are many and complex.
First, the country simply does not have the labor pool to do so. The <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/04/adp-jobs-report-may-2025-.html">unemployment</a> rate in May 2025, the latest data available, was approximately 4.2%, near full employment.
The labor <a href="https://www.dol.gov/agencies/wb/data/widget">participation</a> rate is running at 62.6%, which is well below the 67+ percent <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/191734/us-civilian-labor-force-participation-rate-since-1990/">rate</a> seen in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but not low enough to indicate there is a bench of workers waiting to enter the job market and join the manufacturing sector.
In addition, our labor force is one of the highest-paid in the world. In the United States, the average hourly <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t24.htm">wage</a> of a “nonsupervisory manufacturing employee” is approximately $28.80. In 2020, that wage was approximately $6.50 per hour in <a href="https://www.china-briefing.com/news/reshoring-from-china-to-mexico-how-prevalent-is-it-really/#:~:text=The%20hourly%20wage%20for%20manufacturing,over%2012%20percent%20from%202019.">China</a> and $4.82 in Mexico. In <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/744071/manufacturing-labor-costs-per-hour-china-vietnam-mexico/#:~:text=A%20difference%20in%20earnings,and%20Vietnam%20for%20cheaper%20labor.&amp;text=Log%20in%20or%20register%20to%20access%20precise%20data.">Vietnam</a>, the average hourly wage in manufacturing is $3.10.
We simply do not have the workers to compete with less developed nations, and those we do have make too much money to make America competitive with them.
The only answer would be to open our borders and import foreign workers to fill manufacturing openings at suppressed wages. This is something that President Trump rightly opposes, as it would change the make-up of the United States, to the detriment of our national identity.
So, what are we to do?
The United States can reshore its manufacturing, but must do so on a limited, prioritized basis. We should not care where our tennis shoes, blue jeans, or T-shirts are manufactured. Those industries hold no vital interest to the United States.
However, we should prioritize the reshoring of industries such as pharmaceuticals, computer chips, drones, and food additives.

China controls 80% of the <a href="https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/in-depth-research-reports/issue-brief/a-global-strategy-to-secure-uas-supply-chains/">drone</a> market in the United States.
83% of <a href="https://www.csis.org/analysis/strategy-united-states-regain-its-position-semiconductor-manufacturing#:~:text=And%20as%20to%20semiconductors%2C%2083,capacity%20is%20now%208%20percent.">semiconductors</a> are manufactured outside of the United States.
As a free market capitalist, I do not like the government picking “winning industries,” but there is a national security aspect to consider, and President Trump is doing this.
The <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/pulling-billions-from-harvard-fund-trade-schools-heres-what-people-saying-about-trumps-latest-move">president</a> recently floated the idea of taking the $2.2 billion in frozen assets from Harvard University and using that money to fund trade schools, where people could learn to support the manufacturing that is in the nation’s vital and national interests.
At the end of the day, the United States will never become a manufacturing superpower. Our cost structure and standard of living are simply too high… and that is a good problem to have.
However, we must focus on reshoring those industries that are vital to our national defense and our national interests. With the right focus and incentives, we can quickly achieve this strategic goal and free ourselves from our competitors’ supply chain whims.

Job growth for the month of May again beat expectations as 139,000 jobs were added to the American economy, and the unemployment rate remained steady, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 
The <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>, released Friday, found that the private sector continued to add jobs while government employment declined. The unemployment rate did not change from April, remaining at 4.2%.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt celebrated the news, saying it reflected President Donald Trump’s successful economic policies. 
“President Trump’s America First Economic Agenda has created a BOOMING economy — jobs are up, unemployment is down, wages are increasing, and inflation is dead,” she <a href="https://x.com/PressSec/status/1930980549906063803">said</a> on social media. “More than 139,000 good jobs were added to the private sector in May, all accounted for by American-born workers. Americans should continue to Trust in President Trump, who continues to beat expectations.”
The 139,000 job growth was more than the 125,000 that had been projected by the Dow Jones estimate. Last month, job growth also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/solid-april-jobs-report-shows-govt-employment-drops-as-private-sector-growth-beats-expectations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exceeded expectations</a>, although the increase was revised down by 30,000 jobs in the latest report.

Industries that saw the most growth were health care (62,000), leisure and hospitality (48,000), and social assistance (16,000). Federal government employment declined by 22,000. 
The Bureau of Labor Statistics added that there was little change in mining, oil and gas extraction, construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, retail trade, transportation and warehousing, and the financial activities industries from the previous month. 
At the same time, average hourly pay increased 15 cents to $36.24 last month. 
“The small business economy is growing and the private economy is growing. This is exactly what Donald Trump wanted to do for reversing everything that Biden had done,” <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/06/trump-effect-higher-pay-for-american-workers/">said </a>Job Creators Network CEO Alfredo Ortiz in response to the report. “It’s so good to see that we’re actually creating private economy jobs again.”
The stock markets rose after the job report was released, with the S&amp;P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and Dow Jones Industrial Average rising by more than one percent.

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer <a href="https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/OPA/newsreleases/2025/04/ETA20250661.pdf">warned</a> states on Friday that if they allow illegal immigrants to collect unemployment benefits, they could lose federal funding.
Chavez-DeRemer sent a letter to all governors, telling them to comply with President Donald Trump’s directives to make sure illegals are not getting American tax dollars and illegal immigration is not incentivized.
&#8220;Our nation’s unemployment benefits exist solely for workers who are eligible to receive them,&#8221; the secretary wrote. &#8220;To qualify for unemployment, one must be able and available to work, actively seeking work, and be legally authorized to accept employment in the United States. Unemployment benefits are not a handout for those in our country illegally.”
Chavez-DeRemer specifically cited Trump&#8217;s “Preventing Illegal Aliens from Obtaining Social Security Act Benefits” memorandum and Executive Order 14218, “Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Open Borders.”
The letter notes that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recently informed states that they are allowed to use the DHS immigration database known as SAVE. The system &#8220;helps verify the immigration status of benefit claimants and is a critical tool in the toolbox in ensuring that illegal immigrants do not access our nation’s unemployment benefits,&#8221; Chavez-DeRemer said.
&#8220;I instructed the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) to send a letter to all State Unemployment Insurance Administrators urging them to immediately start using SAVE for every initial and continued claim filed by an individual who indicates that they are not a U.S. citizen,&#8221; the Labor Secretary continued.
&#8220;This letter also reminds states of their existing legal obligations regarding immigrant access to unemployment benefits and that noncompliance with these existing obligations will result in the loss of the state’s Title III UI administrative grant,&#8221; she added.
Earlier in the week, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USDA) will <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/states-warned-federal-funding-jeopardy-illegal-immigrants-collecting-unemployment-benefits.amp">crack down</a> on illegal immigrants accessing food benefits known as food stamps or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).
&#8220;USDA&#8217;s nutrition programs are intended to support the most vulnerable Americans,&#8221; Rollins said, Fox News reported. &#8220;To allow those who broke our laws by entering the United States illegally to receive these benefits is outrageous.”
The Trump administration has also threatened to withhold federal funding from states that do not comply with other orders and federal law, such as Title IX rules. Maine, for example, is in a heated battle with Trump for refusing to protect girls&#8217; sports and adhere to federal law.
Additionally, the administration has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-calls-harvard-an-anti-semitic-threat-to-democracy">taken aim</a> at the federal funding for specific schools, such as Harvard University. Trump froze more than $2 billion in financing for Harvard after it rejected demands to dismantle its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and do more to curb student anti-Israel protests, The Daily Wire reported.

Trump Labor Dept Threatens States Giving Unemployment Benefits To Illegals

Three Democratic-led states accounted for the vast majority of unemployment fraud since 2020, according to an initial survey of such fraud by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
California, New York, and Massachusetts tallied nearly 80% of improper unemployment insurance benefits handed out since 2020. An initial review of claims by DOGE found $382 million in fraudulent payments.
The DOGE audit found that “24.5k people over 115 years old claimed $59M in benefits,” “28k people between 1 and 5 years old claimed $254M in benefits,” and “9.7k people with birth dates over 15 years in the future claimed $69M in benefits.”
“In one case, someone with a birthday in 2154 claimed $41k,” DOGE added in a post on X.
Of those flagged claims, California, New York, and Massachusetts accounted for over $300 million.
“California, New York, and Massachusetts accounted for most of these improper claims, totaling $305M in unemployment benefits,” said DOGE. “Additionally, California accounted for 68% of the unemployment benefits paid to parolees identified by CBP on the terrorist watchlist or with criminal records.”

White House spokesman Harrison Fields said the revelation is an example of the kind of governance that pushed people to move from deep blue states such as California and New York to Republican-led states such as Texas and Florida.
“There’s a reason for the mass exodus from Democrat-run states that have mismanaged their economies and driven residents to the nearest Republican-led state,” Fields told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/dem-states-blame-most-nearly-400-million-unemployment-fraud" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>. “High taxes, poor stewardship of taxpayer dollars and progressive policies continue to yield negative results, which is why Americans overwhelmingly support the work of DOGE.”
California, New York, and Massachusetts are under solid Democratic control. Democrats control the governor’s office, the state House, and the Senate in each state, while also having the offices of secretary of state and attorney general as well.
DOGE is spearheading the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. DOGE analysts have been working with government departments to identify potential wasteful spending and spending that does not align with President Donald Trump’s priorities.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced $5.1 billion in cuts to Pentagon spending on Thursday that were identified by DOGE.
“This one is, as they say, a big one,” said Hegseth in a <a href="https://x.com/SecDef/status/1910462447795716557" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> posted to social media. “We’re signing a memo right now directing the termination of $5.1 billion in DOD contracts – not million, that’s with a B – $5.1 billion in DOD contracts.”
