A man was arrested late last week for planning a &#8220;mass casualty event&#8221; at Tesla&#8217;s headquarters in Texas during an event to celebrate the much anticipated release of the electric car company&#8217;s new Cybertruck, according to law enforcement officials.
A SWAT team tracked down and arrested 28-year-old Paul Ryan Overeem at a McDonald’s parking lot and arrested him after he allegedly threatened to attack the event in messages he wrote on social media.
Tesla was notified on November 10 about the messages and they subsequently contacted local law enforcement officials who then began investigating, according to the <a href="https://www.statesman.com/story/news/crime/2023/11/30/police-florida-man-threatened-mass-casualty-event-at-tesla-in-austin/71759521007/">Austin American-Statesman</a>.
Overeem allegedly <a href="https://kutv.com/news/nation-world/florida-man-arrested-in-texas-after-allegedly-threatening-mass-casualty-event-at-tesla-event-paul-ryan-overeem-terroristic-threat-charges-elon-musk-shooting-threats-shivon-zilis-swat-officers-police-investigation">wrote</a> the following messages on Instagram:

<li>“I need to be stopped”</li>
<li>“If I’m saying I’m gonna kill people then you should take this seriously”</li>
</ul>
When SWAT officers arrested him, he allegedly said that he had weapons in his car and that he was going to commit suicide before he could be arrested. &#8220;I was going to shoot up Elon Musk and the plant,&#8221; he said.
The suspect was charged in Travis County on suspicion of making a terrorist threat, a third-degree felony. He is being held in jail after not posting the $300,000 bond.

President Joe Biden&#8217;s Department of Justice faced backlash this week after a new report revealed that federal prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation into whether Tesla CEO Elon Musk — who is an opponent of the administration — may have received personal benefits from Tesla that the company failed to disclose.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has convened a federal grand jury as it scrutinizes the alleged personal benefits dating all the way back to 2017.
The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/tech/justice-department-probe-scrutinizes-elon-musk-perks-at-tesla-going-back-years-3493e321" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the investigation centers in-part around a secret project inside the company known as “Project 42,” which was an alleged plan to build a home for Musk constructed out of large-format glass panels.
Musk suggested on X — the social media site formerly known as Twitter, which he bought last October — earlier this month that the plan never existed.

Despite being the world&#8217;s richest man, Musk does not own a lot of material possessions, having previously <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/elon-musk-has-sold-seven-homes-for-nearly-130-million-after-vowing-to-own-no-house-11646927878" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sold</a> all seven of his homes in California for roughly $127.9 million and vowing to &#8220;own no house.&#8221;
Prosecutors are investigating whether Tesla disclosed benefits that they may have given to Musk.

Twitter owner Elon Musk slammed a subpoena from the U.S. Virgin Islands on Monday that is demanding that he turn over alleged documents that the government apparently wants to use in its lawsuit accusing JPMorgan Chase of financially benefiting from Jeffrey Epstein&#8217;s sex trafficking operation.
The subpoena requested communications between Musk and JPMorgan regarding Epstein and any information on whether Epstein played any role in any of Musk&#8217;s companies, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/15/business/elon-musk-jeffrey-epstein-virgin-islands-subpoena/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. It also requested any documents regarding fees paid to Epstein or JPMorgan, or any documents regarding Epstein’s sex trafficking ring. Musk is not being implicated in any wrongdoing, according to the outlet.
The only reported contact that Musk ever had with Epstein happened in 2019, according to a <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/07/jeffrey-epstein-case-grows-more-grotesque" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> from that year that Musk gave to Vanity Fair.
“I don’t recall introducing Epstein to anyone, as I don’t know the guy well enough to do so, Epstein is obviously a creep,&#8221; Musk said in-part. &#8220;Several years ago, I was at his house in Manhattan for about 30 minutes in the middle of the afternoon with [ex-wife] Talulah [Riley], as she was curious about meeting this strange person for a novel she was writing. We did not see anything inappropriate at all, apart from weird art. He tried repeatedly to get me to visit his island. I declined.”
The Virgin Islands reportedly had difficulty finding Musk to deliver him the subpoena, according to a filing with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
“The Government contacted Mr. Musk’s counsel via email to ask if he would be authorized to accept service on Mr. Musk’s behalf in this matter but did not receive a response confirming or denying his authority,” the filing said.
Musk mocked the news on Twitter, writing: &#8220;This is idiotic on so many levels: 1. That cretin never advised me on anything whatsoever. 2. The notion that I would need or listen to financial advice from a dumb crook is absurd. 3. A federal jury in San Francisco rejected demands that the 51-year-old billionaire should have to pay billions of dollars in damages over the tweet.
Musk was present during the trial and took to the witness stand where he said that he had come to a handshake agreement at the time with Saudi Arabia&#8217;s Public Investment Fund to take the company private. He said that the Saudis later backed out of the deal.
“I had no ill motive,” Musk said. “My intent was to do the right thing for all shareholders.”
Adam Pritchard, a professor at University of Michigan Law School, said that the case is not likely to become precedent that changes how other executives exercise free speech online.
“Nobody does this — only Elon does this,” Pritchard said while complaining about Musk&#8217;s online speech. “He’s incorrigible. I don’t think his behavior can be reformed. There’s just too long of a track record of too much mischief.”

The man who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/authorities-say-driver-intentionally-drove-tesla-over-california-cliff" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allegedly</a> plunged his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tesla" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tesla</a> off of a cliff in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> on purpose — with his family inside — has been charged with attempted murder. 
Dharmesh Patel crashed the car over the edge of the road at Devil&#8217;s Slide in California with two young children and his wife inside. He was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and attempted murder following the <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-01-03/tesla-driver-arrested-california-cliff-crash-called-intentional" target="_blank" rel="noopener">incident</a> earlier this month. However, he was not officially charged until he was released from the hospital and put in jail. 
According to the San Mateo County District Attorney&#8217;s <a href="https://mobile.twitter.com/SanMateoCoDA/status/1620500672730005504" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a> page, he has been &#8220;charged with 3 counts of attempted murder and enhancements.&#8221;
Patel’s two children and wife, Neha Patel, survived the fall and have also been discharged from the hospital. 
Neha Patel reportedly told emergency response personnel at the scene that her husband was trying to kill the family. 
On Monday, San Mateo County District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe told the Times that Neha had said, “‘He intentionally tried to kill us,&#8217;” to first responders. 
&#8220;A couple of paramedics rappelled down the side of the cliff and as they were helping her out, she said in a very loud voice, to the effect, &#8216;He tried to kill us, he intentionally tried to kill us,&#8217; &#8221; Wagstaffe also <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/tesla-driver-charged-attempted-murder-allegedly-plunging-family-califo-rcna68173" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> to NBC News on Tuesday.
“She said very simply this was not an accident,” Wagstaffe stated, noting that the prosecution had not spoken with Neha, but still had enough information to put forward the charges.  
&#8220;We hope that, when her health improves, she would be able to give us a statement,&#8221; Wagstaffe said, per NBC.
The prosecution has multiple key materials to back up their charges. 
They have tunnel footage that reveals Patel “making a sharp right turn over the cliff,” according to Wagstaffe. The team has also discussed the event with two witnesses who were in vehicles behind the Patels’ car and will state that they did not witness the Tesla try to stop prior to careening over the edge, he stated.
“We have concluded that the evidence supports the fact that he intentionally drove his vehicle over that cliff, thereby obviously endangering not just his wife and two children but his own life,” Wagstaffe said at a press conference Monday after Patel’s first court appearance. Patel is being held with no bail. 
Patel was a radiologist living in Northern California, and his alleged actions <a href="https://people.com/crime/neighbors-left-confused-after-great-guy-drove-tesla-off-cliff-with-idyllic-family-inside/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stunned</a> people who knew him. 
“They’re a beautiful, idyllic family, no indication of issues,” Roger Newmark, a neighbor, previously <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-01-04/the-family-at-the-end-of-the-cul-de-sac" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the Times. “It’s so strange because he is a great guy. Maybe it was a moment of insanity.” 
“He’s just so present,” Sarah Walker, another neighbor who socialized with the family, said. “Dharmesh and I would wave ‘Hi,’ but he would always come over and have a conversation. He was always happy and ready to talk.”

<a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/tesla" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tesla</a> unveiled intentions to build two more factories and hire thousands of people in the state of <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/nevada" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nevada</a>.
The company has invested some $6.2 billion in the Silver State over the past nine years, according to a <a href="https://www.tesla.com/blog/continuing-our-investment-nevada" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a> from the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/electric-vehicles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">electric</a> automaker. The new investment of $3.6 billion will allow for updates to Gigafactory Nevada, one of the world&#8217;s highest volume <a href="https://www.tesla.com/giga-nevada" target="_blank" rel="noopener">plants</a> for electric motors and batteries, as well as a cell factory capable of producing enough batteries for 1.5 million vehicles each year and the first high-volume Tesla Semi factory.
“Thank you to the Tesla team, our supply chain partners and the local community that has made accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy possible at Gigafactory Nevada,” the company’s statement said.
The new facilities will employ an additional 3,000 individuals; Tesla hired 6,500 full-time employees and 17,000 construction workers over the previous decade to build and run Gigafactory Nevada, which currently spans 5.4 million square feet and produces 7.3 billion battery cells per year.
“Nevada is open for business, effective immediately,” Gov. Joe Lombardo (R-NV) <a href="https://twitter.com/JosephMLombardo/status/1618046041349316610" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on social media. “This is an incredible investment in our state.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1557236629412007937" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> last year that the Tesla Semi, which was unveiled in 2017 and originally scheduled to begin production in 2019, would begin by the end of 2022. The first completed vehicles were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musk-announces-start-of-tesla-semi-production-will-reach-clients-within-two-months" target="_blank" rel="noopener">delivered</a> to Pepsi in December.
The Tesla Semi can accelerate from a standstill to 60 miles per hour within 20 seconds, according to a <a href="https://www.tesla.com/semi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">webpage</a> from Tesla. Charging the vehicle is considerably cheaper per mile in comparison to diesel alternatives, resulting in an estimated $200,000 in cost savings within the first three years, while fewer moving parts and software updates reduce the need for repairs.
On the other hand, diesel trucks can travel 2,100 miles on a single tank, according to <a href="https://driveknight.com/blog/trucker-lifestyle/fun-facts-about-semi-trucks-the-trucking-industry/#:~:text=How%20Far%20Can%20The%20Average,around%20seven%20miles%20per%20gallon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">data</a> from Knight Transportation, while the Tesla Semi will have a range of 500 miles. During the launch event six years ago, however, Musk asserted that drivers could recharge while taking periodic breaks already required by law.
Musk recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musk-makes-bold-predictions-about-tesla-performance-global-recession-twitter-deal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that Tesla has “excellent demand” and expects to “sell every car that we make for as far into the future as we can see.” The company’s third quarter automotive revenue constituted a 55% increase from the previous year, while executives expect to maintain 50% annual growth in vehicle deliveries. “The factories are running at full speed and we’re delivering every car we make, and keeping operating margins strong,” Musk remarked.
The robust performance for the brand comes despite <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musk-laments-tesla-factories-becoming-gigantic-money-furnaces-thanks-to-supply-chain-issues" target="_blank" rel="noopener">supply chain bottlenecks</a> and is spurred by new tax incentives for electric vehicle ownership. A recent set of guidelines from the California Air Resources Board mandates that all new cars sold in the state must produce zero emissions by 2035, while the governments of Massachusetts, Washington, and Virginia have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ridiculous-edict-virginia-gov-glenn-youngkin-blasts-californias-gas-car-phase-out" target="_blank" rel="noopener">enacted legislation</a> adopting the standards. President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/energy-sec-granholm-families-should-use-ev-tax-credits-weatherize-their-homes-finance-solar-panels-to-cope-with-inflation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">includes</a> $7,500 tax credits for some new domestically produced electric vehicles and $4,000 tax credits for used electric vehicles.
Musk has nevertheless faced <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tesla-investors-are-worried-that-elon-musks-work-with-twitter-could-hurt-automaker" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pressure</a> from investors and policymakers over his acquisition of social media company Twitter, as some believe the move distracted the billionaire entrepreneur from his work at the publicly traded automaker. The purchase also caused considerable political controversy: net favorability of Tesla among Democrats decreased 20.3% between October and November, the time frame of the acquisition, according to a <a href="https://morningconsult.com/2022/11/17/elon-musks-politically-polarizing-effect/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a> from Morning Consult, while net favorability among Republicans rose 5.5% over the same period.
