A group of migrants in Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta were filmed carrying a baby dolphin around a beach after allegedly pulling the animal from the water and striking it in the head with a stick.
The disturbing incident occurred Wednesday at Trampolín beach, where the bottlenose dolphin calf was reportedly spotted swimming close to shore. Footage verified by local outlet <a href="https://elfarodeceuta.es/inmigrantes-grabados-cria-delfin-sacaron-agua-golpearon/">El Faro de Ceuta</a> shows members of the group walking toward a breakwater as a man carries the animal.  
El Faro reported that the group removed the calf from the water before at least one man struck it in the head with a stick. The blow apparently left the animal gravely injured and ultimately proved fatal, according to the outlet. 
One person appeared to hold the animal aloft like a trophy. 
El Faro reported that an ecoservices worker cleaning the beach witnessed the incident and warned the group not to hit or handle the animal, telling them to contact a specialized collection service. The group attempted to return the dolphin to the water, but the animal appeared to already be dead.
The Association for the Defense of Urban Trees, Biodiversity and the Environment, known as DAUBMA, filed a formal complaint with Spain&#8217;s Civil Guard and asked authorities to investigate the death, according to the Spanish outlet <a href="https://www.democrata.es/en/current-events/controversy-in-ceuta-over-images-of-a-group-of-migrants-with-a-baby-dolphin-on-the-beach/">Demócrata</a>. 
DAUBMA said it submitted photographs, videos, and screenshots that it believes show the dolphin arriving at the shore alive and disoriented before members of the group forcibly removed it from the water and attacked it. DAUBMA is asking authorities to identify those responsible, open proceedings into the animal’s death and refer the case to Spain’s Environmental Prosecutor’s Office.
The organization identified the animal as a bottlenose dolphin, a protected species, and argued that its death could constitute animal abuse resulting in death. <a href="https://www.boe.es/buscar/act.php?id=BOE-A-1995-25444#:~:text=Bloque%20511%3A%20%23a334%5D-,Art%C3%ADculo%20334.,-1.%20Ser%C3%A1%20castigado">Article 334</a> of the Spanish Penal Code provides criminal penalties for certain acts involving protected wildlife.
The dolphin incident comes as Ceuta remains under enormous pressure following the unprecedented migrant influx from Morocco in late July. The presence of migrants in and around the city has already produced tensions with residents, including protests and confrontations around makeshift camps. Trampolín beach, where the dolphin was found, has been one of the areas affected by the crisis.
The dolphin was not the only wildlife incident reported in Ceuta this week. El Faro reported that ecoservice workers also intervened after seeing a migrant capture a goose near the city’s reservoir, intending to hunt it. The workers took the bird away and released it.
Spanish animal-rights political party PACMA <a href="https://elfarodeceuta.es/pacma-exige-responsabilidades-muerte-cria-delfin-ceuta-reclama-mayor-proteccion-fauna/">has condemned</a> both incidents and called for authorities to identify and prosecute anyone responsible, while emphasizing that animal abuse should be investigated regardless of the perpetrator’s nationality or immigration status.

Hundreds of illegal migrants who stormed the beaches of the Spanish exclave of Ceuta staged a protest Sunday to demand asylum.
More than 70,000 migrants, mainly from Morocco, swam and scaled border fences to reach Ceuta, which is situated on the African continent, in a matter of days last month. Most of the illegal border crossers have since returned to Africa after complaining about a lack of food and shelter in Ceuta.
Between 5,000 and 8,000 migrants remain in Ceuta, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/spains-ceuta-hundreds-migrants-stage-protest-demand-asylum-2026-08-16/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Reuters. Most of the migrants said they left Africa to find work, which typically does not qualify as an asylum claim.
The protesting migrants carried signs reading &#8220;We don&#8217;t want to go back to Morocco&#8221; and &#8220;We ⁠are also human,&#8221; along with Spanish flags, according to Reuters. They also chanted, &#8220;We&#8217;re tired&#8221; and &#8220;We need a solution.&#8221;

Along the Moroccan border, security guards were seen on the beaches of Fnideq, one of the primary locations from which migrants illegally rushed Ceuta, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/spain-stocks-african-enclave-ceuta-boosted-security-morocco-monitors-calls-second-border-rush">reported</a>.
Morocco has arrested multiple people who circulated calls on social media for another migrant invasion into both Ceuta and Melilla, another Spanish African enclave.
“The Ministry of the Interior has detected, during the last few days, the circulation of anonymous publications and messages on certain social networks inciting the organization of attempts at collective and illegal crossing to the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, practices which carry serious risks to the safety of people and aim to instrumentalize migration issues in acts of incitement, which are criminalized by law,” the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior said in a statement, according to Fox News.
Meanwhile, Spain is still trying to remove Moroccan migrants from the first mass invasion. About 5,000 migrants are still in Spain out of the 72,000 who originally rushed Ceuta, the outlet reported.
Spain has processed about 500 asylum seekers and rejected most of their applications.
In late July, more than 70,000 migrants, mostly young men, entered Ceuta from Morocco by swimming or jumping border barriers, The Daily Wire reported. The migrants chanted “Bye Bye Morocco, hello Spain,” and video online showed one man pooping in the street. One Ceuta local described the event as an “apocalypse.”
“Businesses closed. Shops shut because if you open a business, it gets overrun. … We’re scared,” another local, a restaurant owner, said. “The streets are packed. There are no measures in place. It’s every man for himself. They’re not giving us any help.”
Earlier this year, Spain’s socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez created opportunities for one million migrants to receive amnesty. Still, Sánchez condemned the rush of migrants, saying the event “deserves our full reproach, our condemnation at the strongest possible level of rejection, condemnation, and consideration as deplorable.”
Meanwhile, Santiago Abascal of the Right-wing party Vox said Sánchez encouraged the migrant flood.
“They’re not fleeing from war or poverty. It’s an invasion,” he said. “They are military-aged men invited by Pedro Sanchez’s corrupt government to storm our borders so they can roam Spain’s streets shouting ‘Viva Pedro Sanchez.’”

Now, the government of Ceuta is asking Spain&#8217;s leaders to let the minors onto the mainland.
&#8220;We are crying out for help and assistance,&#8221; Ceuta&#8217;s local government head, Juan Jesus Vivas, told Spanish broadcaster RTVE on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
Many of the migrants have returned to Africa, while the children who came alone remain in limbo, Reuters reported.
Spain’s Interior Ministry attributed the earlier influx to “a court ruling to encourage the flow of undocumented migrants, mostly young people.” Spain&#8217;s Supreme Court ruled last month that migrants crossing by sea cannot be immediately deported.
As a result, migrant entries went from a &#8220;slow trickle&#8221; to &#8220;an explosion,&#8221; a spokesman for Spain’s Guardia Civil police recently told Reuters.
Spain&#8217;s far-Left Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also opened the door earlier this year for more than one million migrants to receive amnesty to counteract “MAGA-style leaders” around the world, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/30/world/europe/spain-migrants-legal-status.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The New York Times. The Spanish government received more than double the number of applications it initially expected.
With reception centers full, many of the migrant minors still left in Ceuta are sleeping in the streets and inside warehouses, according to Reuters.
In 2025, Spain implemented a reform to its immigration law dictating that unaccompanied migrant minors must be redistributed from territories overwhelmed with migrants within 15 days of the completion of their case file, the outlet reported.
The Spanish government approved $29 million in aid for Ceuta&#8217;s migrant minors.
&#8220;Inter-territorial solidarity is necessary so these minors end up in other locations where they will be better off,&#8221; Miguel Angel Perez, government representative in Ceuta, said on Wednesday. &#8220;The law must be upheld.&#8221;
Conservative leaders in Europe have taken actions to punish Spain for its handling of illegal immigration since the latest surge. Italy recently suspended passport-free travel with Spain for a month after Ceuta&#8217;s latest mass migration incident.

Thousands of migrants remain in Ceuta, Spain, on Monday, with hundreds <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/world/europe/spains-ceuta-overwhelmed-thousands-remain-migrant-border-rush-rcna590549">camping</a> on a beach after last week’s border rush from Morocco overwhelmed the city.
Spanish officials say about 69,500 people have gone back to Morocco in the last four days. That is higher than the first estimates of roughly 50,000 who crossed into Ceuta on Thursday, according to NBC News. The death toll stands at 83 as of Monday.
Many of the migrants who left the city said they turned back after shops closed and left them without food. The migrants also said that they faced hostility from local residents.
Footage from El Trampolin beach shows dozens of migrants, most from south of the Sahara, lying on the sand. Some had wrapped themselves in towels to protect themselves from the wind as army and police vehicles moved along the road behind them.
Ceuta leader Juan Jesus Vivas told Telecinco that 3,000 to 5,000 migrants remain in the territory. He said both reception centers, one for adults and one for minors, had “collapsed.” Official Alberto Gaitan said the city is processing 862 migrant minors who have special legal protections against deportation.
The situation has sharpened tensions inside the European Union over border policy. Spain has accused some its neighbors of failing to help and only offering polarizing responses. Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares noted Monday that Spain had previously supported other E.U. countries during migration crises and now expected the same in return. 
Vivas, however, blamed Morocco. He told El Pais there was a widespread perception in Ceuta that Morocco had allowed, if not orchestrated, the crisis. 
“Morocco has shown us that it isn’t reliable. There’s no alternative but to put in place whatever means are necessary to ensure it cannot do this again,” Vivas said.
Morocco’s Interior Ministry on Sunday blamed the surge on misinformation circulating on social media, human trafficking networks, and a misinterpretation of a Spanish court ruling that bans the immediate deportation of migrants intercepted at sea. That explanation also aligned with Madrid’s official position.
Morocco’s Interior Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment, NBC News reported. In its Sunday statement, it said the country remains “committed to strengthening international cooperation and coordination in combating irregular migration and human trafficking.”
Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska told reporters on Saturday that the foreign intelligence agency CNI, which is controlled by the Defense Ministry, had not warned him of an imminent surge. El Pais reported Monday that the lack of warning created tensions between the two ministries. 
An Interior Ministry spokesman downplayed those reported tensions. Defense Minister Margarita Robles declined to say whether the CNI had any prior intelligence of the mass crossing, citing the secret nature of its work while praising the “exceptional” performance of Spanish security personnel.

Sánchez traveled to Ceuta on Friday after deploying the Spanish military to quell the ongoing chaos. His government has so far refused to make an emergency declaration, as requested by the local government in Ceuta, since Spain&#8217;s civil protection procedures don&#8217;t consider migration flows a risk to national security, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/spain-ceuta-tarajal-morocco-migrants-5c864e5f951e2a7cf7a3eac417668e97" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
During his visit, Sánchez pledged to start removing some of the migrants and fortifying the maritime border.
&#8220;The Government will guarantee the safety of the residents of Ceuta, intensifying the presence of the Security Forces and Corps on the city&#8217;s streets. Additionally, we will deploy a physical containment barrier in the sea to facilitate repatriation at the border, in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling,&#8221; Sánchez said.
&#8220;We will expedite the repatriation files of the migrants who arrived irregularly. And we will maintain cooperation with the Moroccan authorities to continue fighting against the mafias that traffic in human beings,&#8221; he added.

On the Moroccan side, authorities clashed overnight with migrants making their way to Ceuta, deploying tear gas and water cannons. In the streets, vehicles were set ablaze amid the chaos.
But some migrants say that authorities in Morocco are helping facilitate their movement.
Moroccan national Ajoub el-Arrot, 24, who entered Ceuta, Spain, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/07/31/world/spain-ceuta-migrants-morocco" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times that Moroccan authorities &#8220;opened the border and let everyone go by,&#8221; adding, “I don’t know why they let us through.&#8221;
Migrants are continuing to flock to nearby Fnideq, Morocco, which has become a launching point for those making the trek to Ceuta.
Tensions in Ceuta remain high as migrants who have not eaten in days scour the town for food, as local officials say there&#8217;s no plan to feed or shelter the new arrivals. Some of the migrants have already chosen to turn around because they&#8217;re not getting any food as grocery stores shut their doors to them.

French President Emmanuel Macron said Friday he has ordered the deployment of four units of mobile forces, along with aircraft and drones, to strengthen controls at France’s border with Spain in response to the migrant situation in the Spanish territory of Ceuta.
In a post on X, Macron <a href="https://x.com/emmanuelmacron/status/2083223378031239204?s=46">wrote</a> that he had been in contact with the leader of the Spanish government “to express our solidarity and offer any necessary assistance, including through Frontex.”
He cited ongoing cooperation with Morocco, which he said “has already enabled more than 40,000 returns from Ceuta to Morocco today.” Interior ministers from both countries were in contact “to ensure close monitoring of the situation.”
Macron noted that Ceuta does not benefit from freedom of movement to the rest of the Schengen Area. “However, as of yesterday, I asked the Interior Minister to strengthen controls at our border with Spain if necessary: 4 units of mobile forces, aircraft, and drones have been deployed.”
These steps, he said, reinforce arrangements France has taken since 2020 to protect its border with Spain through joint brigades and concerted action against illegal immigration.
 They also complement European instruments for returns and the asylum and migration pact. Macron cited a 25% drop in irregular flows to the European Union last year and a decline on the Atlantic and western Mediterranean routes in 2026.
“Solidarity and responsibility with our European partners to enforce our rules of firmness on returns and the protection of the Union’s external borders,” he wrote. “I reiterate here our solidarity with Spain, its government, and its people.”
The announcement comes after nearly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/34-dead-after-tens-of-thousands-of-migrants-invade-spain">60,000 migrants</a> entered Ceuta from Morocco since Thursday. At least 57 people have <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/spain-morocco-halt-deadly-rush-spanish-enclave-after-49000-cross-day-2026-07-31/">died</a>, many from drowning as they tried to swim into the territory and others from being trampled as crowds broke down gates and overwhelmed Spanish border officials. Most of those who crossed appeared to be young Muslim men.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said his government was “fully committed to providing an immediate response to the situation in Ceuta” and was mobilizing resources while working with Moroccan and international authorities. Later, he called the events something that “deserves our full reproach, our condemnation at the strongest possible level of rejection, condemnation, and consideration as deplorable.”
The influx followed a Spanish Supreme Court ruling that migrants crossing by sea cannot be immediately deported. Migrants were reportedly heard chanting “Bye Bye Morocco, hello Spain” and “<a href="https://x.com/libsoftiktok/status/2083230305956077662">Allahu akbar</a>” as they pushed past officials.
 Locals described closed businesses, packed streets, and fear. One restaurant owner said it was “every man for himself.” Another called the scene an “apocalypse.”
Santiago Abascal of Spain’s Vox party described the arrivals as an invasion of military-aged men. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Italy was taking extraordinary measures, including the possible suspension of the Schengen Area with Spain, calling uncontrolled illegal immigration a concrete threat to Europe’s borders.
 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen labeled the situation “unacceptable” and said dangerous crossings must stop, smuggling networks must be dismantled, and returns must be swift.

Speaking from Camp David, he described it as looking “like an invasion of a country by hundreds of thousands of people” and warned that the same thing would happen to the United States on a larger scale if Republicans are not elected.
 “If we’re not in office, our country will be invaded at levels that made Spain look small time,” Trump said. He had told Fox News earlier Friday to “remember that picture,” adding that it would be the United States in three years “if the wrong side gets in.”
Vice President JD Vance called the images “an unfortunate reminder of the consequences of mass migration and the radical left-wing globalist policies that have enabled the Invasion of the West.” 
The State Department said the United States stands with the people of Spain against “this egregious violation of their sovereignty and human rights” and described the incident as the result of Spanish government efforts that enabled mass illegal migration.
Macron’s deployment of the four mobile forces, aircraft, and drones is the clearest French operational response so far to the pressure building at the Spanish border.

Surrounded by a horde of Moroccan migrant men shouting and pushing, Ceuta resident Rocio cried out for help from the Spanish government, which she said has been missing in action amid the influx. Between Thursday and Friday, roughly 60,000 migrants, mainly young men, swam or scaled border fences into Ceuta, which sits on the African continent.

We cannot call the police or the civil guard because they can&#8217;t keep up. We need urgent help,&#8221; Rocio said during a televised interview.
She went on to call the situation an &#8220;invasion&#8221; as she broke down in tears. That was when the migrant men standing behind her began shouting.
&#8220;This is really outrageous. I am surrounded, I&#8217;m afraid. How can I not be afraid? I even feel like crying. This can&#8217;t go on, this can&#8217;t go on, really. This can&#8217;t go on; we need help. The thing is, I&#8217;m shaking. Really, this has to be lived through. You have to live through this as a woman. You have to live through this as a woman,&#8221; Rocio said.
&#8220;You have to live through this to understand it,&#8221; she said. &#8220;This is an invasion. They&#8217;ve started with Ceuta, but this is the border to Spain, the border to Europe. Today it was Melilla, tomorrow it will be the Canary Islands. The day after, it will be Tarifa.&#8221;
At the end of the interview, the reporter remarked that the migrant group closing in behind them couldn&#8217;t be kept away or controlled.
&#8220;They&#8217;ve started approaching us. I am asking them to stay away, but there&#8217;s no way,&#8221; the reporter said. The men then clapped but didn&#8217;t appear to understand what the women had said.
