The FBI is hunting for a Somali-born man suspected of stealing millions of dollars in funds meant for children in need.
FBI Director Kash Patel said Wednesday that Fahad Mohamed Nur was added to the bureau&#8217;s list of “Most Wanted Fraudsters.” Nur, a naturalized American citizen born in Somalia, was charged in September 2022 for stealing $5 million from the Federal Child Nutrition Program.
“After the outstanding early success of the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudster List, already arresting TWO subjects within weeks with apprehensions out of Somalia and Philippines, today the [FBI] is announcing another addition,” Patel <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/2074820494319067311" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “We have already seen over $13 billion in fraud uncovered on behalf of hardworking Americans — and there is more to come.”
A $150,000 reward is <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/most-wanted-fraudsters/fahad-mohamed-nur" target="_blank" rel="noopener">offered</a> for information that leads to Nur’s capture and conviction. The FBI said it believes he may be hiding out in Somalia. He is charged with multiple counts of money laundering, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Nur ran a Minneapolis-based business called The Produce that purported to supply meals to children in need that received millions of dollars in federal nutrition funds, according to the indictment against him. The business was sponsored by Feeding Our Future, the infamous entity behind the largest COVID-era scam.
Federal prosecutors say that Nur submitted fake meal counts, rosters, and invoices to obtain federal funds. The funds given to Nur and his co-defendants “substantially” exceeded the amount of money that should have been allocated for the meals they actually provided, according to the indictment.
Prosecutors said that by the time Nur distributed any meals in September 2021, he had already received $3.5 million in food payments.
Misappropriated funds went toward real estate, luxury vehicles, and travel. Nur moved nearly $700,000 of fraudulently obtained dollars into his bank account, took $78,000 in cash out, and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on real estate purchases and vehicles, according to prosecutors.
Nur reportedly fled the country after federal agents started serving search warrants in relation to their investigation of the Feeding Our Future scheme. In May 2026, Feeding Our Future founder Aimee Bock was sentenced to almost 42 years in prison for orchestrating the $250 million scam.
Led by Vice President JD Vance, the Trump administration has placed a renewed focus on tracking down fraudsters targeting welfare programs.
“If you defraud American taxpayers you will be found and brought to justice,” the White House Task Force on Fraud <a href="https://x.com/WHFraudTF/status/2074831393012494634" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Wednesday.

A Somali flag that Buffalo, New York, city officials raised in Niagara Square earlier this week to celebrate the foreign country&#8217;s independence was cut down in the dead of night on Wednesday. The flag robbery took place one day after city officials canceled Buffalo&#8217;s Fourth of July fireworks celebration.
Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan said &#8220;unknown vandals&#8221; removed the Somali flag at some point late on Wednesday night, <a href="https://www.btpm.org/local/2026-07-02/somali-flag-cut-down-and-stolen-from-niagara-square-amid-city-fireworks-outrage">according</a> to Buffalo-Toronto Public Media. Ryan added that the Buffalo Police Department is investigating the incident. The Somali flag has been raised in Niagara Square for the past four years on July 1 to celebrate Somali Independence Day.
“Buffalo is a proud, diverse city, and our administration remains committed to honoring and celebrating the many cultures that make our community stronger,” Ryan added.
The Somali flag-raising has stirred controversy in the city, especially since it falls so close to the Fourth of July and the celebration of America&#8217;s 250th anniversary. As they raised the Somali flag in the city square, Buffalo city officials were also blasted for scrapping the Fourth of July fireworks celebration.
&#8220;City Hall canceled its downtown fireworks display, leaving Buffalo as one of the only cities in Western New York without a public Fourth of July celebration, and instead raised the flag of Somalia outside City Hall,&#8221; Erie County, New York, GOP Chairman Michael Kracker said. &#8220;No one is questioning the contributions of Buffalo&#8217;s immigrant communities. But this week belongs to all of us, as Americans.&#8221;
Mayor Ryan announced in early June that the city planned to revive its patriotic fireworks display for America&#8217;s 250th birthday. Buffalo hasn&#8217;t put on a Fourth of July fireworks show in decades as the city focuses on a big New Year&#8217;s Eve fireworks display. This week, however, Ryan said the patriotic show wouldn&#8217;t take place.
&#8220;After exploring potential locations, an appropriate site could not be identified that would provide a safe and widely accessible viewing experience for residents. As a result, the City will not be hosting a downtown fireworks display this year,&#8221; he said.
Buffalo isn&#8217;t the only American city to raise the Somali flag on government property to celebrate the foreign country. Columbus is hoisting the flag of Somalia, a foreign government, on Wednesday and celebrating its independence, according to a government department&#8217;s social media feed.
&#8220;Happy Somali Independence Day! 💙 As we celebrate the unification of the Trust Territory of Somaliland and the State of Somaliland into the Somali Republic in 1960, City Hall will be raising the flag of Somalia,&#8221; the city&#8217;s Parks and Rec department said on social media.

In June 2023, the council passed a <a href="https://columbus.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=6268758&amp;GUID=54FB2E4D-5DB2-4CFC-8C92-5584B9A928DB">resolution</a> to fly Somalia&#8217;s flag. In June 2025, it <a href="https://columbus.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=7449262&amp;GUID=3EFEE861-BDBD-443B-B5BC-EDBB64237C38&amp;Options=ID%7CText%7C&amp;Search=Somalia">passed</a> a resolution &#8220;To Recognize and Celebrate July 1st as Somali Independence Day in the City of Columbus.&#8221;
Columbus is home to the second-largest concentration of Somalis in the United States after Minnesota. The Daily Wire spent time in Columbus after Medicaid records showed some of the most <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inside-ohios-home-health-empire-7-buildings-288-medicaid-companies-250-million">flagrant red flags in the country</a>. Those home-health firms turned out to be run largely by Somalis, to the point where one man said it was racist to ask about Medicaid spending because it was so closely intertwined with Somali identity.
Ohio&#8217;s Medicaid spending has doubled over the last decade, leading to a financial crisis.

Other recipients of government grants in Columbus painted a grim picture of Somalis, saying many claimed to be disabled and were illiterate or drug addicts, to the point where some foreigners were being paid by the government to help other foreigners fill out disability and welfare forms.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, traveled to Columbus to address the rampant fraud, calling the city &#8220;a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-massive-anti-fraud-strike-force-lands-in-ohio">Mecca for Somalian populations</a>. &#8230; We were naive to think that practices that are common in other parts of the world wouldn’t follow them here.&#8221;
The unanswered questions posed to Columbus officials included:

The Somali World Cup referee who was denied entry to the United States earlier this month was &#8220;talking to some very bad people&#8221; just before his arrival, White House World Cup task force director Andrew Giuliani told CBS News on Sunday.
Federal authorities blocked Omar Artan from entering the United States after he arrived at Miami International Airport from Istanbul on June 6.
A senior administration official later told The Daily Wire that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had discovered “derogatory information,” including his “association with suspected members of terror organizations.” That information made him ineligible to enter the country to officiate matches for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Officially, CBP said they determined that Artan was “inadmissible due to vetting concerns and was denied entry” during routine processing.
“Admissibility determinations are made on a case-by-case basis using law enforcement, national security, and immigration information available at the time of inspection,” CBP said. “CBP officers have the authority to question travelers, conduct inspections, and determine admissibility consistent with U.S. law.”
Giuliani declined to share the specifics of Artan&#8217;s alleged communications, citing &#8220;classified information&#8221; that &#8220;may be released&#8221; in the future.
&#8220;But what I can tell you is it was the right decision by CBP, it was the right decision by the secretary of Homeland Security, and I stand by that decision,&#8221; Giuliani said.
&#8220;We can&#8217;t talk about the contact of who he was contacting in particular, but what I can tell you is that communication was happening before he was coming to the United States. It was not a few years before, this was immediately before he was coming to the United States,&#8221; he added.
FIFA released a statement on Artan’s behalf, confirming that the referee would not be able to participate in World Cup events.
“Despite the circumstances, I am in a positive mood and I am focused on the next challenges in my refereeing career,” the Somali referee said in the statement.
“I would like to thank FIFA and (the African federation) for all their support and I promise to keep my refereeing levels up as I concentrate on the future. I want to thank the football family for their messages and wish my colleagues all the best success during the World Cup and I look forward to joining them again in future competitions,&#8221; he added.

The FBI arrested a Somali-born man accused of stealing $4 million from a federal food program for children in need through his participation in the nation’s largest COVID-era scam. 
FBI Director Kash Patel announced Wednesday that 47-year-old <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/most-wanted-fraudsters/said-abdullahi-ereg">Said Abdullahi Ereg</a> surrendered to federal authorities after being wanted since 2024 on fraud charges. Ereg was placed on the “Most Wanted Fraudsters” last week over his alleged involvement in the massive $250 million Feeding Our Future scam.
“When [Vice President] Vance led the way for the Most Wanted Fraudsters list through the [White House Fraud Task Force] — this was exactly the righteous goal the Task Force had in mind — to bring to justice all those who have stolen money from hardworking American taxpayers,” Patel said. “This historic result is only the beginning — and let it be a message to any fraudster who takes advantage of America, this team will find you.”
The FBI said that Ereg took $4.2 million in government payments to his Minneapolis-based grocery and deli to supposedly provide meals through the Federal Child Nutrition Program between April 2020 and April 2021. Ereg&#8217;s grocery was sponsored by the fraudulent Feeding Our Future program. 
“Ereg allegedly transferred most of the money to fund his family&#8217;s lavish lifestyle,&#8221; the FBI said. &#8220;He also allegedly transferred money to foreign accounts controlled by foreign companies.&#8221;
Ereg’s grocery store purported to serve “3,000 meals, twice a day, seven days a week” but in actuality only served a “fraction of those meals,” according to prosecutors. In total, he claimed to have served 1.4 million meals to children. 
The money was instead used for purchases of high-end brands like Burberry, Louis Vuitton, and Canada Goose and sent to a foreign textile company, according to the indictment. Ereg transferred some $2.5 million funds received from government payouts to foreign accounts controlled by foreign companies, prosecutors said. 
Hundreds of thousands of dollars went toward the purchase of a home in New Hope, Minnesota, and the Somali-founded Quick Chain Trading Company and the Chinese-based Shaoxing Aifan Textile Company, according to the indictment. 
The suspected fraudster faces charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. The criminal proceedings for Ereg will take place in federal court in Minnesota. 
Aimee Bock, the founder of Feeding Our Future, was sentenced last month to 500 months in prison for her role in the exploitation of the child nutrition program during COVID. She and others created dozens of shell companies to funnel federal dollars that were supposed to go toward feeding kids. 
Under the direction of Vice President JD Vance, the Trump administration is focusing on cracking down on fraud. Federal prosecutors accused a Minneapolis daycare owner of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars by lying about the number of kids she was serving. 
The Justice Department charged Fahima Egeh Mahamud on Wednesday with wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States over a scheme involving the federally funded Child Nutrition Program and Child Care Assistance Program. In February, Mahamud was charged for her alleged role in the $250 million Feeding Our Future scam. 
Prosecutors said Wednesday that Mahamud “exploited changes in the program intended to ensure that underserved children received adequate nutrition during the COVID-19 pandemic to enrich herself by fraudulently misappropriating hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal child nutrition program funds.” 
The Trump administration began probing the extent of apparent widespread fraud throughout Minneapolis daycare and autism centers after videos from independent journalist Nick Shirley went viral as he looked into questionable businesses. Mahamud was <a href="https://x.com/nickshirleyy/status/2057208188970160489">featured</a> in one of those videos. 
Mahamud, who needs a Somali language interpreter at her court proceedings, ran the Minneapolis-based Future Leaders Early Learning Center, which participated in the federal nutrition program under the sponsorship of Feeding Our Future.
From January 2021 to July 2021, she received $854,000 in nutrition program funds for the daycare, and from October 2022 to December 2025, she was reimbursed over $4.6 million for childcare assistance claims, according to prosecutors. She is accused of not meeting requirements to collect co-payments for the childcare claims. 
Investigators say that Mahamud relied on fake meal counts, rosters, and invoices with “inflated figures” to submit her claims to the government and that she received funds that “substantially exceeded” the actual amount given to children. Mahamud’s operations served “only a fraction” of the tens of thousands of meals claimed, prosecutors said. 
Mahamud “diverted much of those taxpayer dollars for the purchase of real property, for the benefit of herself” and other companies associated with her, like Future Properties LLC and Minneapolis Autism Center Corp, according to investigators. 
Prosecutors say that Mahamud <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/daycare-feeding-our-future-fraud-charges-flee-country/">attempted</a> to fly to London after she shut down the Future Leaders center in February amid federal scrutiny. She is currently under house arrest. 
Top Trump administration officials, including Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., are expected to travel to Minneapolis on Thursday morning to make an announcement on their efforts to crack down on fraud.

Trump has long feuded with Omar and repeatedly called for her to return to her homeland of Somalia. During his first term, controversy erupted after a &#8220;send her back&#8221; chant broke out at a rally while he was discussing her.  
Earlier on Sunday, Trump claimed Omar and Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz supported the protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minnesota because doing so helped distract attention from political pressure on them. 
“ICE is removing some of the most violent criminals in the World from our Country, and bring them back home, where they belong,” Trump said. “The thugs that are protesting include many highly paid professional agitators and anarchists. Is this really what Minnesota wants? The crooked Governor and ‘Congresswoman’ Omar, who married her brother, don’t mind because it keeps the focus of attention off the 18 Billion Dollar, Plus, FRAUD, that has taken place in the State! Don’t worry, we’re on it!”
Minneapolis has been the focus of anti-ICE protests since an agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman who was driving her vehicle toward him. Some of the demonstrations have turned violent, with federal officers being assaulted and federal vehicles targeted with vandalism. 
Trump has considered invoking the Insurrection Act and sending in troops if ICE agents continue to be impeded in Minnesota. The protests come at the same time federal officials have initiated numerous investigations into alleged welfare fraud schemes that have taken billions of dollars in federal funding.

As left-wing protests in Minneapolis <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jacob-frey-says-minneapolis-riots-about-love-but-videos-tell-a-more-violent-story">appear</a> to be growing more violent, the Justice Department is investigating Minnesota Democrats for obstructing federal law enforcement. Last week, Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz urged President Donald Trump to “turn down the temperature.” But over the weekend, violent left-wing agitators in his state continued demonstrations. Large groups of protesters clashed with law enforcement outside of federal buildings and other ICE facilities, and a number of conservative demonstrators were brutally attacked in broad daylight. In one instance, a right-wing activist was physically dragged from the steps of a government building by a large mob of leftist agitators. They proceeded to beat him with fists, rocks, and flag poles, as some in the crowd yelled “kill him” — all with police nowhere to be seen. 
On Sunday, dozens of protesters stormed the Cities Church in St. Paul as part of a “clandestine operation” to “disrupt business as usual,” activist leader Nekima Levy-Armstrong told ex-CNN host Don Lemon, who embedded with the protest group.
Clips from Lemon’s coverage of the protest spread on social media and drew the attention of Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, who heads the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.
“The [Civil Rights Division] is investigating the potential violations of the federal FACE Act by these people desecrating a house of worship and interfering with Christian worshippers,” Dhillon said in a <a href="https://x.com/aagdhillon/status/2013003168179724426" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> on X.
Governor Walz and Mayor Frey are under federal investigation amid their opposition to the Trump administration’s massive immigration enforcement operation in the state. CBS News first <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/justice-department-investigating-tim-walz-jacob-frey-minnesota/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> the details of the investigation, which focuses on allegations that Walz and Frey have interfered with federal immigration operations.
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Trump’s Greenland Gamble Revives Trade War With Europe</h2>
Some European leaders want to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/europe-ramps-up-trade-fight-after-trump-threatens-tariffs-over-greenland">escalate</a> a trade war with the United States after President Trump threatened to impose tariffs of up to 25% on eight countries. Trump has said he will back off the tariffs only when Denmark agrees to sell Greenland. Leaders in the European Union want to <a href="https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-us-trade-deal-on-hold-after-new-trump-tariffs/">freeze</a> the trade agreement the bloc struck with the United States last year. Under that agreement, the EU would lift all levies on American goods, and in exchange, the United States would drop its tariffs on EU imports to 15%. The European Parliament was supposed to move forward on it next week, but instead the bloc is now expected to vote on Wednesday to put the deal on hold. It may also take additional steps to increase economic pressure on the United States. Some officials are concerned that the brewing trade war could mean trouble for the NATO military alliance, as well.
<h2 style="text-align: center;">State Department To Permanently End Aid To Somalia</h2>
The State Department will permanently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/state-department-to-permanently-end-aid-to-somalia-after-warehouse-of-food-disappears">end</a> foreign aid to Somalia after a warehouse full of U.S.-funded food disappeared. The Daily Wire obtained diplomatic cables from the United States embassy in Mogadishu showing corruption in Somalia that mirrors the fraud perpetrated by refugees in Minnesota. The U.S. embassy recommended that the State Department stop foreign aid after January 3, “at the direction of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Federal Government of Somalia, authorities at Mogadishu Port demolished the World Food Programme Emergency Response Warehouse with no prior notification or coordination with international donor countries, including the United States.” Seventy-six metric tons of food went missing, even as another 1,650 tons of commodities were on their way.

The State Department will officially terminate foreign assistance to Somalia after the African nation&#8217;s government demolished a warehouse containing 76 metric tons of food donated by America, a senior administration official told The Daily Wire. 
On January 3, &#8220;at the direction of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud (HSM) and the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), authorities at Mogadishu Port demolished the World Food Programme (WFP) Emergency Response Warehouse with no prior notification or coordination with international donor countries, including the United States,&#8221; a diplomatic cable from the United States Embassy in Somalia dated January 6 said.
The move &#8220;likely resulted in the destruction of these emergency food supplies,&#8221; and was approved by Somali&#8217;s president over the objections of the World Food Programme, the cable said. The apparent cause, it said, was corruption: the Mogadishu Port is managed by a Turkish company that wanted to expand, and Somalia&#8217;s Minister of Ports &#8220;acts as [Turkey&#8217;s] primary agent in Somalia.&#8221; Turkey has increasingly played a large role in Somalia industries, &#8220;often operating under corrupt contracts that uniformly favor Turkish interests,&#8221; the cable said.
An additional 1,650 metric tons of additional commodities were scheduled to arrive in early January, and had to be stored in an alternative warehouse. The World Food Programme, a project of the United Nations, said it will notify Somalia that the &#8220;demolition constitutes a breach of UN diplomatic protocols,&#8221; the cable said.
The embassy in Somalia requested that the Secretary of State &#8220;strongly consider pausing, canceling, or postponing U.S. assistance to [Somalia] until it returns or compensates the United States and other international donors for the stolen food assistance items,&#8221; the cable said.
The State Department announced on January 7 that it has &#8220;paused all ongoing U.S. assistance programs which benefit the Somali Federal Government. Any resumption of assistance will be dependent upon the Somali Federal Government taking accountability for its unacceptable actions.&#8221; But the administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, went further, saying that all aid will be permanently and officially ended by May.
The ports minister issued an eviction notice to the WFP in December, but the Somali government had later said the warehouse could still be used while a final decision was pending. The port manager claimed that the food was moved to two containers and remained accessible, but WFP said that was not true, and that it is likely ruined because it requires specialized storage.
The food was donated by Americans under the Title II &#8220;Food for Peace&#8221; program and International Disaster Assistance, while the World Food Programme administers its distribution. Hunter Biden served as chairman of the World Food Programme USA, which supports its work, from 2011 to 2015.
The disappearance of the Food for Peace food due to apparent Somali corruption comes as Somalis who migrated to the United States by claiming refuge status have themselves defrauded the U.S. government, including by asking to be paid by the government to watch their own children or their neighbors&#8217; children, and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/were-putting-america-first-trump-admin-ends-temporary-protected-status-for-thousands-of-somalis">plunged</a> cities like Minneapolis into their own instability.
A member of Somalia&#8217;s parliament and its Foreign Affairs committee, Abdillahi Hashi Abib, wrote to United States officials saying that 90% of Somalia&#8217;s humanitarian assistance comes from America, and that the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has been &#8220;defrauding&#8221; it because &#8220;the funds have been captured and monetized by a single-family network and its clan affiliates.&#8221;
For example, three brothers of the agency&#8217;s chairman, Mohamud Macallin Abdulle, each receive $15,000 a month salaries, paid through their wives, he said, and the Finance Department and Training Unit are both run by the his uncles. 
He said that &#8220;food donations from the US, EU, UAE, Qatar, and China are systematically sold in Magadishu markets after staged photo-ops,&#8221; in which starving people are paid $5 to pay for photos with the food, before it is taken away from them.
By diverting aid for 8,000 to 12,000 families, the clan generates half a million dollars a month for itself, he said. Foreign aid money has also been wasted as Somalis inflate the cost of items, charging $300,000 for ambulances and fire trucks that cost only $100,000, he said.
&#8220;The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and his extended family are beneficiaries of a system that has systematically looted U.S.-funded humanitarian assistance&#8221; by &#8220;installing a close relative&#8230; at the apex of Somalia&#8217;s humanitarian system,&#8221; he wrote.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Friday that multiple money service businesses in Minnesota were under investigation for potentially transferring money stolen from the federal government overseas to Somalia.
Bessent made the comments during a press conference from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area where he announced actions that the Treasury Department and the IRS are taking to crack down on fraud. He said that multiple money service businesses — non-bank financial institutions that transmit money — had been informed that they were under investigation.
“Our citizens have a right to know that their tax dollars are not being diverted to fund acts of global terror, or to fund luxury cars for fraudsters. Democratic Governor Tim Walz has allowed welfare programs and fraud to spiral out of control,” he said. “Billions of dollars intended for hungry children, housing for disabled seniors, and services for children with special needs were diverted to people who cheated the system, some of whom are not even American citizens.”
Bessent said that the IRS and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCen), the arm of the Treasury that investigates money laundering and terrorist financing, were looking into whether money fraudulently obtained through welfare programs went to Al-Shabaab, an Islamic terror group in Somalia.
Both agencies are investigating whether financial institutions complied with regulations to detect money laundering and other illicit activities. He did not disclose which money service businesses were under investigation.
“These businesses had an obligation to comply with anti-money laundering laws, and they will be held responsible for any crimes they committed,” he said.
Additionally, Bessent said that banks in Hennepin County, which encompasses Minneapolis, and Ramsey County, home to St. Paul, were being required to submit information about money transferred overseas.
Bessent estimated that around $300 million in funds had been fraudulently taken from the federal government through welfare programs meant to help impoverished children.
When asked by The Daily Wire&#8217;s Mary Margaret Olohan during the conference if Walz may be potentially wrapped up in the investigation, Bessent said, “It&#8217;s clear that Governor Walz has been negligent in his fiduciary duties as the chief executive of the state of Minnesota that this would happen on his watch, and we are actively pursuing all leads to see the level of involvement, whether it&#8217;s limited to just negligence and incompetence, or is something more than that.”
