Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said that the United States is becoming &#8220;one of the worst countries&#8221; in the world after President Donald Trump and Republican governors deployed the National Guard to quell anti-ICE riots.
Speaking to the leftist news program &#8220;Democracy Now,&#8221; Omar — who grew up in Somalia during a time of anarchy — <a href="https://news.grabien.com/story/rep-ilhan-omar-says-the-us-is-becoming-worse-than-her-home-country-of">said</a> that she doesn&#8217;t &#8220;remember ever witnessing anything like&#8221; what she sees in the United States.
&#8220;To have democracy, a beacon of hope for the world, to now be turned into one of the worst countries, where the military are in our streets without any regard for people’s constitutional rights, while our president is spending millions of dollars propping himself up like a failed dictator with a military parade, it is really shocking and it should be a wake-up call for all Americans to say this is not the country we were born in, and this is not the country we believe in.&#8221;
&#8220;This is not the country our Founding Fathers imagined, and this is not the country that is supported by our Constitution, our ideals, our values, and we should all collectively be out in the streets rejecting what is taking place this week,&#8221; Omar added.
Omar and her family fled Somalia in 1995 as the country descended into chaos and a civil war. They received asylum in the United States, living in Arlington, Virginia, before settling in Minneapolis, where Omar now represents Minnesota&#8217;s 5th District in Congress. The 5th District is in the middle of Minneapolis, which is sometimes referred to as &#8220;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDTCJmTdXc8">Little Mogadishu,</a>&#8221; or the &#8220;Somali capital of America.&#8221;
The leftist &#8220;Squad&#8221; member has regularly criticized the United States, while radical Islamic terrorists continue to threaten innocent people in Somalia. In 2019, Omar said that after living in America, she viewed the nation as unjust, accusing the country of breaking its &#8220;promise&#8221; to her family.
“I grew up in an extremely unjust society, and the only thing that made my family excited about coming to the United States was that the United States was supposed to be the country that guaranteed justice to all,” she told high school students, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/07/06/ilhan-omar-is-unlike-anyone-who-has-served-congress-this-is-her-complicated-american-story/?utm_term=.8a1405a502c9">according</a> to The Washington Post. “So, I feel it necessary for me to speak about that promise that’s not kept.”
In 2021, Omar equated the United States and Israel with Hamas and the Taliban, <a href="https://x.com/Ilhan/status/1401985884191404041">writing</a>, &#8220;We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.&#8221;

We&#8217;re at the point where pretty much every square-inch of the Shiloh Hendrix racial slur controversy has been debated and overanalyzed ad nauseam. It&#8217;s an n-bomb that, we&#8217;re told, rivals the destructive power of anything we dropped on Hiroshima or Nagasaki. But despite all of the coverage, probably the single most important aspect of the story — which is how exactly Minnesota woman Shiloh Hendrix ended up in a playground with two individuals &#8220;of Somali heritage&#8221; in the first place — still hasn&#8217;t been widely discussed. And that&#8217;s too bad, because that&#8217;s the part of the story that elevates it beyond a discussion about Shiloh Hendrix and language policing. It&#8217;s a question that has significant relevance to every American citizen. So it&#8217;s worth asking: Why exactly were those two individuals 8,000 miles away from Somalia?  And what are so many Somalis doing in this country, and in particular in Minnesota?
We&#8217;ll start with the specific location of this now-infamous incident, the city of Rochester. Rochester is the third-most populous city in the state of Minnesota. It originated as a humble stagecoach stop for travellers between St. Paul and Iowa before a part-time farmer and surgeon named William Mayo put the town on the map. During the Civil War, Mayo (who was born in England) moved to Rochester and began examining draftees to the Union army. Within a few years, he established what would become the Mayo Clinic — which now consistently ranks as the best hospital in the country, if not the world. Rochester, in other words, is an example of American excellence. To the extent that foreign nationals moved into Rochester, like William Mayo, it was to make the city a much better place for everyone.
But somewhere along the way, starting in the past few decades, the people running the state of Minnesota, including Tim Walz, decided to import a large group of people — not to improve the lives of American citizens in Rochester, but to secure a new and very loyal constituency. In particular, tens of thousands of refugees from the African nation of Somalia began pouring into the state, and many of them settled in Rochester. In fact, so many Somalis have now settled in Rochester that the city recently opened an entire community center just for them. Watch:

When William Mayo moved into Rochester, of course, he didn&#8217;t demand a community center for British citizens. He didn&#8217;t call for a segregated location where they could talk among themselves, away from those dastardly Americans. And he certainly didn&#8217;t start some fake &#8220;nonprofit&#8221; to do so, in order to secure a lot of taxpayer money and some write-offs. Instead, he did something productive. He built a medical practice that benefited the entire community and ultimately the entire world.

But that&#8217;s not remotely what Rochester&#8217;s Somali population is interested in doing. Instead, they&#8217;ve created a web of nonprofits, to the point that every single news report involving Somalis in Rochester will inevitably mention a nonprofit at one point.
Here&#8217;s yet another example. This is a news report in which Somalis in Rochester celebrate their own country&#8217;s independence — not America&#8217;s independence, but Somalia&#8217;s independence. Watch:

Minnesota is the &#8220;Second home&#8221; of Somalis, as you just heard. Therefore, they have their own independence day and their own soccer championship. They host events for their own country because they understand, very well, that they aren&#8217;t part of the United States. And they don&#8217;t want to be.
Instead, the Somali population of Minnesota has committed itself to defrauding this country at every available opportunity. They have imported every bit of the corruption and wide-scale fraud that has destroyed Somalia.
In 2022, prosecutors announced <a href="https://x.com/siegfriedmuell/status/1918865673792418239">federal charges</a> against dozens of defendants who ripped off a federally-funded child nutrition program during the pandemic, to the tune of 250 million dollars. They claimed they served meals, and then they didn&#8217;t actually serve them. We&#8217;re talking about more than <a href="https://minnesotareformer.com/2024/05/23/somali-nonprofit-got-a-million-dollar-cut-from-feeding-our-future-prosecutors-say/">70 defendants</a> here, and most of them were Somalis.
As the <a href="https://minnesotareformer.com/2024/05/23/somali-nonprofit-got-a-million-dollar-cut-from-feeding-our-future-prosecutors-say/">Minnesota Reformer</a> states:
<blockquote>A dizzying array of nonprofits were created or revived to participate in a U.S. Department of Agriculture program to provide free meals to children during the pandemic. &#8230; Two Minnesota nonprofits are at the center of the case — Feeding Our Future and Partners in Nutrition — in what prosecutors say was the nation’s biggest pandemic relief fraud.  &#8230;  An FBI forensic accountant testified Wednesday that the largest food distribution site out of the 50 sites connected to the defendants was at the Dar Al-Farooq mosque in Bloomington, where they claimed to serve 1.9 million meals in 2021, for $4.9 million in reimbursement.</blockquote>
This fraud, unsurprisingly, was apparently enabled by Democrats in the Minnesota legislature.
As the outlet <a href="https://minnesotareformer.com/2024/05/23/somali-nonprofit-got-a-million-dollar-cut-from-feeding-our-future-prosecutors-say/">reports</a>:
<blockquote>Rep. Hodan Hassan withdrew two bills that would’ve given the [Somali nonprofit called &#8220;Somali Community Resettlement Services&#8221;] a total of $6.5 million in grants. &#8230; Evidence prepared for the federal trial linked the nonprofit to the Feeding Our Future case. &#8230; It sponsored eight distribution sites in Minnesota cities where the defendants claimed to serve thousands of meals and snacks daily in 2020 and 2021, for which it was reimbursed over $2.9 million. Of that, the Somali nonprofit paid the defendants and their various entities purporting to be serving meals $1.83 million, meaning it kept nearly $1.1 million.</blockquote>
In other words, the Somali population of Minnesota isn&#8217;t just ripping off American taxpayers. They&#8217;re electing corrupt representatives who are helping facilitate the fraud, one way or another. To be clear, unpacking all of the various fraudulent operations at work here would take about five years, so I&#8217;m not going to attempt it. Instead I&#8217;ll focus on one aspect of this story, which really highlights the comical and absurd level of corruption at work here.
During one of these trials, some of the defendants hatch a plan to bribe a juror with $200,000. They decide to just drop it at the juror&#8217;s front door, along with a note explaining that it&#8217;s a bribe. So it&#8217;s not the most subtle operation. But then a funny thing happens. As the courier is taking the money to the juror&#8217;s front porch, she skims $80,000 from the bribe money and keeps it for herself, without telling her co-conspirators. 
So even the Somalis are scamming other Somalis here. Watch:

You have to imagine this kind of thing happens constantly in Somalia, and in places like Rochester. Bribery is a common part of the culture in Africa. I’ll never forget landing in the airport in Nairobi a few years ago and having officials at the airport demand a bribe like 5 minutes after we got off the plane. If you drive anywhere in these African countries, it&#8217;s recommended that you have cash on you to pay bribes to the cops in case you get stopped. Like I said, it&#8217;s part of the culture there. And now it&#8217;s part of the culture in Minnesota. Whenever fraudsters are extremely brazen about their crimes, it usually means that they&#8217;ve done it many, many times before without any consequences. In this case, they just happened to run into a juror with a basic sense of morality. And of course, even when they&#8217;re caught, they&#8217;re totally shameless about it. Calling this an endemic problem would be a major understatement.
On Reddit, just to emphasize the point, there&#8217;s a <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/Somalia/comments/124x9l9/question_on_possibly_moving_to_mn/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">topic</a> called: &#8220;Question on possibly moving to Minnesota.&#8221;
Here&#8217;s the question: &#8220;Salaam my brothers and sisters. Thinking about moving to Rochester, Minnesota for a job, is there a large Somali community there?&#8221;
And here&#8217;s one of the top-rated replies: &#8220;From what I understand there is a fairly large Somali community in Rochester. The community is tight knit from what I hear, they’ll even cut you in on their latest scams. Best of luck!&#8221;
One of the reasons this fraud is so prevalent — other than the fact that many Somalis, like Ilhan Omar, despise this country — is that they don&#8217;t have the capacity to do anything else. Something like 54% of Somalis in Minnesota are <a href="https://www.sctimes.com/story/news/local/immigration/2018/02/24/state-demographer-offers-some-context-somali-refugee-poverty-numbers/370507002/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">below</a> the poverty line, compared to 12% of people living in Minnesota overall. Roughly 65% of Somali children live in poverty. The numbers are similar in the UK, where 72% of Somalis live in socialized housing, even though they only make up 16% of the population. There isn&#8217;t a single Western society on Earth that&#8217;s been improved by importing large quantities of Somalis, and the lives of these Somalis aren&#8217;t really improving that much either. They&#8217;re simply bringing corruption, violence and poverty wherever they go.
And they were apparently bringing some antisocial behavior to the playground in Rochester, if Shiloh Hendrix&#8217;s version of events is true. As she put it, a black child, reportedly of &#8220;Somali heritage,&#8221; tried to take items from her bag. Then, after calling the black child a slur in some manner, Hendrix was accosted by a Somali man who&#8217;s completely unrelated to the black child. And that Somali man, as we discussed the other day, has a history of sexual assault allegations that were later dropped in court.
From Shiloh Hendrix&#8217;s perspective, let&#8217;s recap: She wanted to enjoy a day at the park with her child in Rochester. But she couldn&#8217;t enjoy it because, like so many other cities in Minnesota, Rochester has deliberately imported a lot of third-world behavior. Put aside whether she&#8217;s a good person or a bad person, or whether she used a bad word. Instead, put what happened in context. Consider the fact that Minnesota&#8217;s &#8220;Cedar Riverside&#8221; neighborhood has been nicknamed &#8220;Little Mogadishu&#8221; because there&#8217;s so many Somali migrants flooding in. And then consider the fact that Little Mogadishu has seen a 56% increase in violent crime from 2010 to 2018, right when the Somali population was surging. Imagine living through this. Imagine that the local parks — which were once a point of pride for Rochester — are now full of people who are incapable of behaving like they belong in civilization. How exactly would you respond in that scenario?
You&#8217;d probably be exasperated. You might even say something naughty on camera. But if you did say, it really wouldn&#8217;t serve any purpose to blame you. It&#8217;d be like blaming a driver if he crashes in a poorly-designed intersection. Yes, the driver made a mistake. But the real problem, which the government engineered, is what actually needs to be addressed. In the case of Shiloh Hendrix, that&#8217;s not happening.
After my commentary the other day, in which I voiced my support for Hendrix&#8217;s fundraiser as a way of dealing a death blow to cancel culture, I&#8217;ve been accused of belonging to the so-called &#8220;woke right,&#8221; or using &#8220;third rail tactics&#8221; that are typical of the &#8220;woke right.&#8221; No one&#8217;s ever explained what exactly any of these terms mean, or how a monologue in which I explicitly condemned cancel culture could be described as &#8220;woke&#8221; in any meaningful way.
But the point of these allegations about the &#8220;woke right&#8221; isn&#8217;t to make sense. The point is to derail the conversation, so that everyone&#8217;s talking about labels and meta-analysis, instead of Shiloh Hendrix and what&#8217;s happened to cities like Rochester. Without much fanfare, large portions of this country have been converted into miniature versions of Somalia. You can see the evidence everywhere — from community centers to parks to playgrounds.
And if you really want to understand the Shiloh Hendrix story, which not many people do, then you can start by explaining to her — and everyone else in Rochester — what exactly two individuals of &#8220;Somali heritage&#8221; were doing in that playground in the first place. Why exactly are we importing Somalians into this country en masse? In what way has it improved American society? That’s a fair question. It&#8217;s also a forbidden one. Just like it&#8217;s forbidden to state the obvious here: nobody wants to live in a community overrun with Somalian immigrants. If you had a choice to live in a community where 60% of the population is Somalian, or one where zero percent is Somalian, you would choose the latter. Every single person would. And we all know it.
What&#8217;s more, if you had a choice between living next door to Shiloh Hendrix, or living next door to the Somalian accused child abuser who was filming her, you&#8217;d choose Shiloh every time. Every single person would. And we all know it.
So then why are we doing this? Why are going out of our way to make our communities in this country resemble the worst and most dysfunctional countries on the planet? Can you explain that? If you can’t, then you have no business telling anyone who has to live amid this dysfunction what they can and can’t say. Whether that makes me a member of the &#8220;woke right&#8221; or not, I don&#8217;t really care. It&#8217;s true — and everyone living in places like Rochester knows it very well.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said in a statement that the strike was carried out in the Golis mountains in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.
&#8220;Our initial assessment is that multiple operatives were killed in the airstrikes and no civilians were harmed,&#8221; the statement said. &#8220;This action further degrades ISIS&#8217;s ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians and sends a clear signal that the United States always stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists who threaten the United States and our allies, even as we conduct robust border-protection and many other operations under President Trump&#8217;s leadership.&#8221;

As Christians throughout the United States celebrate Christmas, tens of millions of their fellow believers face intense persecution for their beliefs and could be endangered if they choose to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Last year, at least 365 million Christians were persecuted for faith, including thousands who were killed and nearly 300,000 who were displaced, <a href="https://www.opendoorsus.org/en-US/persecution/persecution-trends/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to persecution watchdog Open Doors. Open Doors, which puts out a top fifty watchlist every year tracking persecution, said that violent attacks on Christians have only increased in recent years, especially throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. 
“Those things are rising because the church is rising, because the church is growing, because the church is having impact and influence in areas, and the gates of hell are trying to stamp that out,” Open Doors President Ryan Brown told The Daily Wire. 
While many Christians in the West celebrate the birth of Jesus at their churches and with their friends and family, there are many countries where doing so would be dangerous. 
Here are ten of the worst places for persecution around the world, <a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Open Doors.
<h3>1. North Korea </h3>
The one non-Islamic country on the list, communist North Korea is notorious for its state enforced atheism and hatred of Christianity. Whole families can be sent to work camps if someone is found with a Bible in the Hermit Kingdom. 
According to Open Doors, there are around 400,000 Christians in the DPRK who regularly face heavy persecution. 
”Those in power see Christianity as being subversive and being a threat to their power. And in some cases they make an association because they see that as some kind of a tie to the West,” Brown told The Daily Wire. “In other cases it&#8217;s just this idea that anybody willing to lay down their life for something other than the state scares them.”
Brown said that many Christians who have successfully escaped North Korea will return to the country to “seek to live as Christ called them to live, to work and minister to their neighbors.”

<h3>2. Somalia </h3>
Known for its constant instability, Somalia is also a very dangerous country for the few hundreds of Christians estimated to live in the country. The predominant form of persecution there comes from Islamic radicals opposed to the growth of Christianity.
Somalia is the first Sub-Saharan country on the list, a region Brown said has been seeing increased violence. 
“There’s been a continued upsurge in violence throughout sub-Saharan Africa where there is a massive issue right now where a total of over 16.2 million Christians in [the region] that have been displaced,” he said. 
Brown urges Christians to join the “<a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/getinvolved/arise-africa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Arise Africa</a>” campaign which seeks to bring awareness to the widespread persecution in Sub-Saharan Africa. He urged them to pray for the African church and find ways to support them with educational and material needs.
<h3>3. Libya </h3>
This North African neighbor to Egypt was long ruled by dictator Muammar Gaddafi until 2011. The vast majority of Libyans are Sunni Muslims who adhere to Sharia Law. Libya is also home to just 35,000 Christians which is less than 1% of the country’s population. 
According to the U.S. <a href="https://www.state.gov/reports/2022-report-on-international-religious-freedom/libya/">Department of State</a>, &#8220;Muslims who converted to another religion faced intense social and economic pressure to renounce their faith and return to Islam.&#8221;

<h3>4. Eritrea</h3>
Located on the western bank of the Red Sea, Eritrea borders Sudan, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. While Christians make up nearly half (47%) of Eritrea’s population, they face deep challenges as the dictatorial government doesn’t tolerate Christianity <a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/eritrea/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outside</a> of three recognized denominations. At least 1,000 Christians are currently estimated to be imprisoned there without having faced any formal charges.
<h3>5. Yemen</h3>
Christians are subject to intense persecution from Islamic radicals in Yemen, which is located at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. In 2024, the Islamic Houthi rebels attacked numerous commercial ships and oil tankers passing through the Red Sea on their way to the Suez Canal, successfully disrupting a major international shipping lane.
According to Open Doors, only a small number of Christians live in Yemen. Like many other Islamic countries, people who convert to Christianity can face severe consequences, even from their families, for their decision.

<h3>6. Nigeria</h3>
While Nigeria is home to some very large churches, more Christians are killed in Nigeria than in any other country. In 2023, it was <a href="https://www.opendoorsus.org/en-US/stories/13-christians-killed-day-average/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that over 4,100 Christians were killed in the African country, largely due to Islamic persecution. 
&#8220;There were more people killed in Nigeria last year than all other places in the globe combined, nearly about 80% of those that were martyred for their faith occurred in Nigeria,&#8221; Brown said of those killed for their Christian faith. “In many ways, Nigeria is kind of a concentrated reflection of what we are seeing throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.”
Last year, over 150 Christians <a href="https://www.opendoorsuk.org/news/latest-news/nigeria-attacks-christmas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were</a> killed during Christmas Eve attacks by Islamic Fulani herdsmen.
<h3>7. Pakistan</h3>
Pakistan’s four million Christians also face intense persecution for their faith and are often openly prosecuted. According to <a href="https://www.opendoorsuk.org/countries-watch/pakistan/">Open Doors</a>, 1.8% of the population identify as Christian, but due to Pakistan&#8217;s strict blasphemy laws, very few can talk about their faith.
&#8220;Pakistan’s notorious blasphemy laws are often used to target minority groups, but Christians are disproportionately affected – in fact, roughly a quarter of all blasphemy accusations target Christians.&#8221;
Pakistani Christians also face &#8220;institutionalised discrimination&#8221; and are given &#8220;occupations that are deemed low, dirty and degrading – such as working as a sewer cleaner or on a brick kiln – are reserved for Christians by the authorities. Many are referred to as ‘chura’, a derogatory term meaning ‘filthy’.&#8221;
<h3>8. Sudan </h3>
Returning to Sub-Saharan Africa, Sudan’s two million Christians face intense persecution that has only been <a href="https://www.opendoorsus.org/en-US/persecution/countries/sudan/?gad_source=1&amp;gbraid=0AAAAAqQP2Ook0kQ403zkIS6qUIF6Z_g99&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiAsaS7BhDPARIsAAX5cSBeC5bPV1MmoZNdmwvLl0noggWgPui5AlY9oIlBWuEjblqyMu-YM7UaAqfVEALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exacerbated</a> by the civil unrest in the country as the National Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) battle it out for control. Millions of people, including Christians, have been displaced due to the fighting.
Brown said that Christians will often be targeted and mistreated in refugee camps and not be given access to equal support and aid.
<h3>9. Iran</h3>
Iran’s government targets Christians in Iran with a number of oppressive laws, <a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/iran/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">including</a> making conversion to Christianity illegal.
“The government views conversion as an attempt by the West to undermine Islam and the Islamic government of Iran,” Open Doors reports. “This means that anyone who is discovered to be a member of a house church can be charged with a crime against national security, which can lead to long prison sentences.”

<h3>10. Afghanistan</h3>
Only a few thousand Christians are estimated to be in Afghanistan, but they face intense cultural persecution from the Taliban, which has no tolerance for Christianity.
The next World Watch report from Open Doors comes out in January, and Brown urges Christians to try to remember their persecuted brethren through prayer and support on a more frequent basis. He said that much of the persecution is happening in places where the church is actually growing and active.
“Even in those places it seems most dark, and yes it is dark and yes there is evil, but that evil is there because there is a hope there, because there is a light there, because the church is present and the church is working,” he said.

Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, who has been selected as Vice President Kamala Harris&#8217;s VP pick, helped change his state&#8217;s flag three months ago because it was &#8220;problematic.&#8221;
Walz helped appoint the Minnesota State Emblems Redesign Commission to change the flag, which he unveiled in May. The commission included 13 voting members and four non-voting members.
&#8220;Our current flag is problematic,&#8221; Walz said. &#8220;I think we all know that. We&#8217;ve evolved into a more diverse state and I think it&#8217;s more reflective of that.&#8221;

The previous flag design, adopted in 1957, included an image of a settler tilling land as a native man rides horseback. <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/new-flag-minnesota-explanation-history/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">According</a> to CBS News, members of the State Emblem Redesign Commission said it was harmful to native communities and promoted the &#8220;erasure&#8221; of their people.
The new flag design caused a stir online, with some noticing a resemblance to the Somali flag and flags that represent regions in Somalia.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sparked calls for her removal from Congress over the weekend after she made remarks at an event in Minnesota in which she told a group of Somalis that she is advocating for Somalia — where she was born and raised during her early years — while serving in the U.S. Congress.
A three-minute <a href="https://twitter.com/ambrhodajelmi/status/1751669533171994655">video</a> clip of Omar went viral on Sunday that appears to have been translated by alleged officials from Somaliland, a breakaway region in Somalia that has claimed its independence from Somalia for decades but is <a href="https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/somaliland-horn-africas-breakaway-state">not recognized</a> by any other countries as being a sovereign state.
Omar made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at an event at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis celebrating the recent re-election of Said Abdullahi Deni as the President of the Puntland State of Somalia.
Omar&#8217;s remarks come as there have been recent tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia over Somaliland. Ethiopia <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/somalia-rejects-mediation-efforts-with-ethiopia-over-port-deal-2024-01-18/">reportedly</a> came to an agreement with Somaliland that would recognize Somaliland as a country independent from Somalia in exchange for Ethiopia, which is a landlocked country, gaining access to 12 miles of the coastline in the region through a lease agreement.
Somalia flatly rejected the agreement, saying in a statement: &#8220;There is no space for mediation unless Ethiopia retracts its illegal [memorandum of understanding] and reaffirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.&#8221;
According to a professional translation of Omar&#8217;s remarks acquired by The Daily Wire from an international translation service, Omar referenced the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland: &#8220;A few days ago, we heard the news about some people claiming to be Somalis getting into an agreement with Ethiopia.&#8221;
Omar continued:
<blockquote>I got calls from a lot of people saying, &#8220;Ilhan, you need to talk to the U.S. government; what is the government of the U.S. doing?'&#8221;My answer to their question was that the U.S. government will do what we tell them to do about it. We need to be confident in ourselves. We live in this country; it is the country that we pay tax to, and it is the country that one of your daughters is in. As long as I am in the U.S. Congress, no one will take a way in the Somali sea or water. And I will not support the U.S. government in supporting other people to rob us. Rest assured that it will not happen, Minnesota. The lady that you sent to Congress knows about you, and she feels your interest like you all do. </blockquote>
Omar thanked Somali President Hassan Sheikh for &#8220;reminding everyone that even if Somalia is in crisis, we are people of talent who know their country and whose country cannot be put in danger.&#8221;
&#8220;I want to congratulate the Somalis in Minnesota and the Somalis everywhere on how you all are united and how you all supported our President, who needs our support,&#8221; she concluded, according to the translation. &#8220;Somalia is Somalia, and Somalis are all one; we are all brothers and sisters. No one can divide our land; we are missing land, and we will search for it soon. No one will divide whatever land that we have now.&#8221;
A translation of Omar&#8217;s remarks that appeared in the video clip that went viral on social largely aligns with the translation provided to the The Daily Wire in conveying Omar&#8217;s overarching message, which is that she is advocating for her homeland from inside the U.S. Congress, and that it seems to be one of her top priorities, if not her top priority.
Omar clearly signaled that she is working in Congress to protect Somalia and make sure that &#8220;Somalia will never be in danger,&#8221; remarks that were included in the viral translation and verified by INGCO International, the service The Daily Wire contracted to perform the translation. The congresswoman asserted that Somalis love their homeland and promised that she is working &#8220;day and night to protect your interest.&#8221;
Omar responded to the viral translation in a post on her X account: &#8220;It’s not only slanted but completely off, but I wouldn’t expect more from these propagandists.&#8221;
Numerous top Republican politicians and conservative figures slammed Omar over her remarks.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded to the video clip: &#8220;Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!&#8221;
&#8220;Listen to it all,&#8221; said Donald Trump Jr. &#8220;It’s not hyperbole when we say our representatives are putting America last.&#8221;
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) responded: &#8220;Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office. She should resign in disgrace.&#8221;

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) commented in-part: &#8220;She flaunts using her position as congresswoman to protect Somalia’s border while our border is invaded by MILLIONS of illegals who are a danger to America.&#8221;
Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) posted on X: &#8220;Terrorist sympathizer Ilhan Omar has shown her true colors. Her treasonous comments and allegiance to Somalia are a violation of her oath of office. Our elected officials have a duty to our nation, and our nation only. We must be vigilant when deciding who is allowed to enter our country.&#8221;

Two U.S. Navy SEALs went missing late this week during a mission in the waters off the coast of Somalia, U.S. officials said.
The SEALs were conducting a nighttime interdiction mission on Thursday where they were climbing up onto a vessel when one got knocked off by powerful ocean waves, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/navy-seals-missing-somalia-coast-boarding-mission-41a5cf55805f8aa0ff2c4d5626690529">reported</a>. Following protocol, the next Navy SEAL up jumped into the water to help rescue him.
A search and rescue operation is underway for both SEALs in the warm waters of the Gulf of Aden, the report said, noting that the U.S. Navy has increased activity in the area to stop weapons from being shipped to Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen.
U.S. Central Command would not confirm details about the two individuals who were missing, other than identifying them as &#8220;sailors&#8221; who were &#8220;were forward-deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet (C5F) area of operations supporting a wide variety of missions.&#8221;

The news comes as the Biden administration finally began taking military action against the Houthis late this week following dozens of terrorist attacks on international merchant vessels over the last couple of months in the Red Sea.
&#8220;Since Nov. 19, 2023, Iranian-backed Houthi militants have attempted to attack and harass vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden 28 times,&#8221; CENTCOM said. &#8220;These illegal incidents include attacks that have employed anti-ship ballistic missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise missiles.&#8221;
&#8220;These strikes have no association with and are separate from Operation Prosperity Guardian, a defensive coalition of over 20 countries operating in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and Gulf of Aden,&#8221; the statement added.
