Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sheila-jackson-lee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sheila Jackson Lee</a> (D-TX) filed legislation last week to codify &#8220;conspiracy to commit white supremacy&#8221; in federal <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hate-crime" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hate crime</a> laws.
The Leading Against White Supremacy Act, introduced days after the beginning of the new Congress, would <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/61/text/ih?overview=closed&amp;format=xml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">enable</a> the Department of Justice to prevent “violent activity” in relation to white supremacy ideology. The bill does not define white supremacy. Nevertheless, it adds “white supremacy based motivation against any person” to existing statutes that already introduce penalties for crimes perpetrated against another person because of “race, color, religion, or national origin.”
The bill defines “conspiracy to engage in white supremacy inspired hate crime” as an activity “between two or more persons engaged in the planning, development, preparation, or perpetration of a white supremacy inspired hate crime.” At least one of the two or more conspirators must have published material advancing “white supremacist ideology,” “replacement theory,” or any “hate speech” directed against non-white groups on social media or other platforms where the content could be “viewed by persons who are predisposed to engaging in any action in furtherance of a white supremacy inspired hate crime.”
Lee <a href="https://twitter.com/jacksonleetx18/status/1614898541935083520?s=46&amp;t=nmw6FkSXxXLIo_svsr87Kw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cited</a> testimony from FBI Director Christopher Wray, who said that “white supremacy” represents a “major domestic terrorist threat” during a social media exchange with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) about the legislation. Wray indeed <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/news/testimony/threats-to-the-homeland-evaluating-the-landscape-20-years-after-911-wray-092121" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> lawmakers two years ago that extremists who “advocate for the superiority of the white race” were the primary source of lethal attacks perpetrated by violent domestic extremists in 2018 and 2019.
Whistleblowers have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-fbi-official-to-address-whistleblower-claims-alleging-agency-inflated-domestic-terrorism-numbers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">detailed</a> pressure from within the law enforcement agency to reclassify cases as “domestic violent extremism” when the circumstances do not merit such a distinction. A <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/legacy_files/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/2022-07-27-JDJ-to-Wray-re-domestic-violent-extremists32.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> sent to Wray last year by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) asserted that the FBI&#8217;s decision to manipulate domestic violent extremist data “cheapens actual examples of violent extremism.”
The Biden administration has <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/06/19/fact-sheet-the-biden-harris-administration-advances-equity-and-opportunity-for-black-americans-and-communities-across-the-country/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ordered</a> internal efforts to “root out white supremacy and extremism” within agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security. Left-wing activist organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center <a href="https://www.splcenter.org/news/2023/01/06/jan-6-anniversary-two-years-later" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claim</a> that entities such as the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes have successfully “infused once-marginalized, white supremacist ideas into mainstream Republican discourse and politics with the goal of maintaining a grip on power and silencing communities of color.”
Lee, who has served in the House of Representatives for nearly three decades, formerly supported a bill that would have launched a commission to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-judiciary-committee-to-vote-on-creating-slavery-reparations-commission-to-address-deep-seeded-racism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a> the possibility of slavery reparations. She later <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sitting-congresswoman-claims-that-reparations-could-have-slowed-the-spread-of-covid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that reparations for African-Americans “could have cut COVID-19 transmission and infection rates both among blacks and the population at large.&#8221;

&#8220;So, this is a W-T-F moment here in the House of Representatives,&#8221; Mast began, adding, &#8220;People moving offices and this is apparently where Representative Sheila Jackson Lee keeps her American flag, her POW flag, in the garbage can, in the trash.&#8221;
Mast panned the camera to show the trash can in the hallway, clearly labeled with a sign saying where it was to be moved.
&#8220;That&#8217;s her idea of appropriate for moving the American flag. WTF. What the — what the hell is wrong with these people?&#8221; he asked.
Some critics quickly pointed out that Jackson Lee was only moving the flag and did not likely mean for it to remain in the trash can, but Mast himself acknowledged that — and his argument appeared to simply be that even just transporting a flag in a trash can was disrespectful.

Congresswoman <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/watch-sheila-jackson-lee-gets-everything-wrong-ashe-schow/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sheila Jackson Lee</a> (D-TX) claimed that if reparations for slavery had been implemented, that might have helped to contain the spread of COVID during the recent global pandemic.
Jackson Lee took to the House floor on Thursday to rally support for <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/40" target="_blank" rel="noopener">H.R. 40</a>, a bill that would establish a congressional commission to study the potential cost and impact of reparations.
Noting that COVID infection rates among minority communities had initially appeared to be greater than among white Americans or the population at large, Jackson Lee cited a <a href="https://hms.harvard.edu/news/anti-racist-epidemiology" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvard Medical School study</a> that said living conditions — and work environments in the African American community were more conducive to the virus&#8217; rapid spread.

&#8220;There is no doubt we have been impacted, that DNA in the trajectory of slavery to today. For example, COVID. Black African Americans have gotten COVID at a rate of nearly 1.5 times higher than that of white people, or hospitalized at a rate of nearly four times higher and three times likely to die. COVID hit us very desperately,&#8221; Jackson Lee began.
She explained that reparations could have moved the needle among African Americans by decreasing the wealth gap and allowing more people to access better health care, better education, and potentially less crowded living conditions.
&#8220;Reparations for African Americans could have cut COVID-19 transmission and infection rates both among blacks and the population at large,&#8221; the Texas Congresswoman continued. &#8220;Reparations are curative, they&#8217;re not punishment. The analysis continued to look at data throughout the nation.&#8221;
“Wealth is more strongly associated with familial or individual well-being,&#8221; said study co-author William Darity, the Samuel DuBois Cook Distinguished Professor of Public Policy at Duke University and a Lancet reparations commissioner. He explained that black Americans have a much lower average net worth than white Americans, adding, &#8220;This dramatically restricts the ability of Black Americans to survive and thrive.&#8221;
While Jackson Lee&#8217;s initial data was correct — black Americans did see higher infection, hospitalization, and death rates in the early months of the pandemic — more <a href="https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/hsph-in-the-news/covid-death-rate-now-higher-in-whites-than-in-blacks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recent data</a> show that death rates across racial demographics eventually evened out. As of October, the death rate among white Americans — according to data evaluated by The Washington Post — had &#8220;eclipsed&#8221; that of other groups.

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee is set to hold a vote on a bill that would address slavery in the United States and create a commission in order to study potential slavery reparations.
The current <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/40/text">bill under consideration is H.R. 40 and its purpose is:</a>
<blockquote>To address the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery, its subsequent de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.</blockquote>
The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to make potential adjustments to the bill and vote on it on Wednesday. The measure was first introduced in 1989 by Democratic Representative John Conyers, and if it makes it out of the committee, it will have its first vote on the House floor since then.
According to <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/04/14/986853285/bill-to-create-commission-on-reparations-nears-historic-house-vote">NPR</a>, Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), the sponsor of the current bill, described H.R. 40 as &#8220;enabling legislation to address the deep-seated racism and historic and systemic elements of mistreatment of African Americans through the centuries.&#8221;
&#8220;We think it will be cleansing for this nation, and we think that it will be a step moving America forward to see us debate this question on the floor of the House,&#8221; she said.
At a hearing for the bill earlier this year, opponents of the idea of slavery reparations spoke about the issue. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/herschel-walker-and-others-say-no-to-slavery-reparations">The Daily Wire</a> reported that Rep. Jackson Lee called out Republicans for choosing black witnesses to speak out against her proposed legislation.
She said, “Like our last hearing, the minority has selected two African-American witnesses to speak against HR 40. That is their privilege. But we know that justice, facts and that life that was led and continues to be led by African Americans is on our side.”
Utah Republican Representative Burgess Owens, who is black, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/herschel-walker-and-others-say-no-to-slavery-reparations">reportedly</a> argued that reparations would amount to “socialism” and were “impractical,” and that it is “unfair and heartless to give black Americans the hope that this is a reality.”
Owens counter-proposed that politicians should “give us back our history” and that “as we accept our lineage as victors, the same history will command the respect of our fellow Americans — an example of how to overcome the most overwhelming odds.”
The bill is expected to face a difficult journey with Republican opponents in the House and Senate. In order to get past the filibuster in the Senate, the bill would need 60 votes, which some believe to be unlikely.
On Tuesday, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris met with leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus for the first time. NPR reported that legislators who attended the meeting said that the issue of reparations was discussed. Rep. Jackson Lee told the media that &#8220;we have heard from not only the president, but the White House and his team, that he is committed to this concept.&#8221;

Former pro-football running back Herschel Walker spoke to a congressional hearing on Wednesday about the possibility of slavery reparations in the United States.
Walker spoke at a hearing for House Resolution 40, which would create a commission to study the topic of reparations. The bill is <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/02/17/herschel-walker-says-black-americans-shouldnt-get-reparations/?utm_source=NYPTwitter&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_medium=SocialFlow">reportedly</a> sponsored by Texas Democratic Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, who said that the Black Lives Matter protests last year featured &#8220;signs in support of HR 40,&#8221; adding that now is the right time to create a commission.
Walker played in the former USFL and NFL for over 25 years and has become an outspoken conservative in recent years.
According to <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/02/17/herschel-walker-says-black-americans-shouldnt-get-reparations/?utm_source=NYPTwitter&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_medium=SocialFlow">the New York Post</a>, Walker &#8220;said reparations might require black Americans like himself to use genetics company 23andMe to calculate their pay by percentage of ancestry &#8230;&#8221;
He mentioned that he opposes reparation efforts for political and moral reasons, telling a House Judiciary Committee subcommittee, “We use black power to create white guilt. My approach is biblical: how can I ask my Heavenly Father to forgive me if I can’t forgive my brother?”
“America is the greatest country in the world for me, a melting pot of a lot of great races, a lot of great minds that have come together with different ideas to make Americans the greatest country on Earth. Many have died trying to get into America. No one is dying trying to get out,” he said.
“Reparations, where does the money come from? Does it come from all the other races except the black taxpayers? Who is black? What percentage of black must you be to receive reparations? &#8230; Some American ancestors just came to this country 80 years ago, their ancestors wasn’t even here during slavery. Some black immigrants weren’t here during slavery, nor their ancestors. Some states didn’t even have slavery.”
He also questioned with whom the fault for slavery lies.
“Who is the guilty party? Should we start at the beginning where African Americans sold your African American ancestors into slavery? And to a slave trader who eventually sold African American ancestors to slave owners?” he said.
Jackson Lee reportedly called out Republicans for selecting black witnesses — Walker and Larry Elder — to speak against her proposed bill.
She said, “Like our last hearing, the minority has selected two African-American witnesses to speak against HR 40. That is their privilege. But we know that justice, facts and that life that was led and continues to be led by African Americans is on our side.&#8221;
Elder reportedly said, “Despite all the problems that have been brought up in this committee about racism, about slavery, about Jim Crow, black people have overcome to the point now where only 20 percent of black people are below the federally defined level for poverty — still too high, but in 1940 that number was 87 percent and 20 years later that number had been reduced to 47 percent.&#8221;

Democrat Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee (TX) introduced a gun control bill near the start of the current Congress that, if passed, could make California&#8217;s strict gun control laws seem tame by comparison.
H.R.127 <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/127/text">states</a> that its purpose is to &#8220;provide for the licensing of firearm and ammunition possession and the registration of firearms, and to prohibit the possession of certain ammunition.&#8221;
The bill calls for the U.S. Attorney General to establish a licensing and registration system through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which would increase the federal government&#8217;s ability to monitor gun owners&#8217; purchases and the location of their firearms by requiring them to inform the government of the &#8220;make, model, and serial number&#8221; of the firearms that they own and adds that the firearm owner must tell the government &#8220;where the firearm is or will be stored.&#8221; In order to obtain a license, individuals must also complete &#8220;at least 24 hours of training.&#8221; Individuals can be stripped of their license and must get their licenses renewed.
The bill states that the information collected in the registration will be provided to all Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies and will also be provided to all branches of the United States Military.
In order to obtain a license to possess a firearm, an individual would need to be at least 21 years old and, in addition to undergoing a background check, would require that the individual undergo &#8220;a psychological evaluation&#8221; which could potentially involve &#8220;other members of the household in which the individual resides.&#8221; Under the bill, a person could have their constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms stripped from them if they&#8217;ve been hospitalized with a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including depression.
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, approximately 17 million Americans <a href="https://adaa.org/understanding-anxiety/depression">suffered</a> from a major depressive episode in 2017. That number is likely far higher at the current moment given the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has <a href="https://www.apa.org/monitor/2019/05/ce-corner-isolation">isolated</a> many individuals and led to an increase in <a href="https://www.mentalhealth.va.gov/suicide_prevention/docs/Literature_Review_FSTP_Unemployment_FINAL_508_8-19-2019.pdf">unemployment</a>, factors that are generally associated with an increase in depression and suicide rates.
The bill also bans ammunition that is .50 caliber or larger and bans people from being able to possess magazines that are able to hold greater than 10 rounds of ammunition. The bill also forces people to pay an $800 fee to the government that insures them &#8220;against liability for losses and damages resulting from the use of any firearm by the person during the 1-year period that begins with the date the policy is issued.&#8221;
Lee has been criticized in the past for demonstrating a lack of understanding of firearms, saying in September 2019: “I&#8217;ve held an AR-15 in my hand, I wish I hadn’t. It is as heavy as 10 boxes that you might be moving. And the bullet that is utilized, a .50 caliber, these kinds of bullets need to be licensed and do not need to be on the street.”
AR-15s typically weigh on the high-end around 10 or 11 pounds but can be as light as 5.5-6.5 on the low-end. They do not fire a .50 caliber round, rather, they fire a significantly smaller .223 caliber round.

During an interview on “The Breakfast Club” with co-host Charlamagne Tha God, Biden said, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”
Lee made the false claim during an appearance on Fox News when asked about the remark during an interview with anchor Bret Baier.
&#8220;I mean, you would say to somebody in your district who’s an African American, who perhaps enjoyed the historically low African American unemployment, the support for historically black colleges and universities, the prison reform and justice reform, and they said, you know what, I’m going to vote for Donald Trump,&#8221; Baier said. &#8220;They are not less black tonight, right?&#8221;
&#8220;I don’t believe anyone who saw that exchange would in any way suggest that anyone is blacker, blackest, or less black,&#8221; Lee claimed. &#8220;That exchange was in jest, but on second thought, it could have been spoken differently.&#8221;
&#8220;And what I would say to you is that that was not what the vice president said in terms of those words,&#8221; Lee falsely claimed.
Baier concluded the segment by saying, &#8220;He did say what he said, and he apologized.&#8221;

<blockquote>BRET BAIER, FNC ANCHOR: Let’s get some balanced reaction to all of this, the Biden comment. Texas Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee joins us tonight.
Congresswoman, thanks for being here. I want to get your reaction to that story, the comment today, what you think about it.
REP. SHEILA JACKSON LEE (D-TX): Well, I’m going to take off my mask. I want everybody to know that we should be wearing masks, but I’m not near someone for six feet, so I’m going to go ahead and take it off. Good to be with you.
The good news is I am delighted that the vice president was on “The Breakfast Club,” it is a dynamic show with a very probative questioning host. That was the right thing to do.
Then as well, I think the right thing to do was to own up that it might not have been as funny as we might have thought originally, meaning the vice president, because it was done in jest, and to be able to match his record up against his opponent.
Any day I believe he’ll come out with 100 percent – the vice president knows that he can’t take any community for granted, and particularly the African-American community.
I don’t believe he, in any way, is insensitive to the needs of this community, particularly in what we’re going through right now with COVID-19, the enormous amount of mortality rates in our community.
So I believe he’s answered over the last 24 hours that he’s going to fight every single day to earn the vote of every single African-American of all generations, and that’s the way a presidential candidate should put their candidacy forward.
BAIER: Yes, Congresswoman, I’m sure you’ve seen some of the reaction that some folks didn’t think it was a joke and took offense to it, including Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television, who is also a big finance person for Hillary Clinton, as you well know, said this, “Vice President Biden’s statement today represents the arrogant and out-of-touch attitude of a paternalistic white candidate who has the audacity to tell black people, the descendents of slaves, that they are not black unless they vote for him.
This proves unequivocally that the Democratic nominee believes that black people owe him their vote without question; even though, we as black people know it is exactly the opposite. He should spend the rest of his campaign apologizing to every black person he meets.”
Your reaction to Bob Johnson?
JACKSON LEE: Well, my reaction is that Bob Johnson is a friend. I appreciate and respect his analysis and also his contributions to the economic engine of wealth in this nation. And there have been many tweets and comments that have been said about this.
But I maintain that the vice president is realistically aware that he has to work every single day to get every American’s vote, and particularly in the African-American community.
What I like about the vice president is I don’t have to look for his record, his record is present. And he has already indicated that one of his chief responsibilities and concerns is to close the wealth gap between everyone else and the African-American community, to boost the educational opportunities and close that horrible gap, and to deal with health disparities &#8212; which reflects, again, in the mortality rates of COVID-19, and the number of people that are not tested in the communities without resources.
So this is a great opportunity for the vice president to show his record and to contrast it with an individual, his opponent, that has called African countries s-hole countries, that have not hired any African-Americans, and finally I would say that has made it a point of targeting with wrong words, African-American women.
BAIER: But Congresswoman, last thing, quickly. I mean, you would say to somebody in your district who’s an African-American, who perhaps enjoyed the historically low African-American unemployment, the support for historically black colleges and universities, the prison reform and justice reform, and they said, you know what, I’m going to vote for Donald Trump. They are not less black tonight, right?
JACKSON LEE: I don’t believe anyone who saw that exchange would in any way suggest that anyone is blacker, blackest, or less black. That exchange was in jest, but on second thought, it could have been spoken differently.
But I think African-Americans are truly one of the most astute political groups in this nation, and they know what is best for them, their children, their families, their elders – and as relates to the generational divide, if you will, or the unity of such, those who are millennials are clearly astute.
And what I would say to you is that that was not what the vice president said in terms of those words, and if we had listened to the earlier conversation we would know that the vice president wants to put his record forward.
He knows that everyone has their own historical moral standing on the color of their skin, but he also said he hopes that people don’t have to just vote on the color of their skin, and he also believes &#8212;
BAIER: Yes.
JACKSON LEE: &#8212; in the history of our people. And I don’t believe in anyway that he undermined who we are and what we are.

Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee Claims That Biden Did Not Really Make Bigoted ‘You Ain’t Black’ Remark

A second former staffer to Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) was sentenced for her role in helping another former aide obtain and post personal information for multiple Republican senators in order to intimidate them over their support for then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/second-democratic-aide-sentenced-in-kavanaugh-doxxing-case">reported</a> that Samantha Deforest Davis, 24, “was sentenced to two years of supervised probation with 200 hours of community service, with a suspended sentence of 180 days in prison.”  Davis was also told to “stay away from [Hassan&#8217;s] office to include current and former staff, and to not use Tor or anonymized computer applications,&#8221; a Department of Justice statement said.
Fox reported that Davis was alleged to have helped Jackson Cosko, 27, who illegally obtained the senator’s personal information because he was angry over their support for Kavanaugh after the nominee was accused of decades-old sexual assaults. The assaults were never proven or corroborated, and the majority of witnesses said they don’t remember Kavanaugh behaving the way he has been accused.
Cosko, according to prosecutors, told Davis to “wipe down” the computers he used in Hassan’s office to obtain the information. Davis, a staff assistant at the time, was unable to comply because another staffer was in the office the morning she was supposed to wipe the computers. Davis also allowed Cosko to use her keys to get into the office, knowing “that Cosko needed the keys to unlawfully enter the senator’s office to access Senate computers&#8221; the DOJ’s statement said.
“Davis pleaded guilty to the federal charge of aiding and abetting computer fraud, and to the District of Columbia charge of attempted tampering with evidence,” Fox reported.
Cosko had previously worked as a computer systems administrator for Hassan, but was fired in May 2018 for breaking office procedures. Court records reviewed by Fox News indicate that Cosko “repeatedly burglarized the office,” the outlet reported. He also “copied gigabytes worth of data, including dozens of user names and passwords belonging to Senate employees and ‘contact information for numerous sitting U.S. senators,’” Fox reported.
At the time of the doxing, Cosko was working for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX). He was caught when another staffer recognized him and reported him. Cosko later sent that staffer an email threatening to “leak it all” if the staffer snitched.
“Emails signal conversations gmails. Senators children’s health information and socials,” Cosko wrote to the staffer.
In April, Cosko <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sheila-jackson-lee-staffer-who-doxxed-republicans-ashe-schow">pleaded guilty</a> to two counts of making public restricted personal information, and one count each of computer fraud, witness tampering and obstruction of justice,” Fox reported. In June, Cosko was sentenced to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ex-dem-staffer-who-doxed-republicans-during-ashe-schow">four years in prison</a> for his crimes. During his court proceedings, Cosko explained that he had been able to spy on senate offices thanks to his keylogger devices. He also wrote a “to do list” of sorts to himself relating to the crime. One of those notes read:

Cosko obtained his congressional jobs thanks to his father’s connections. His father is the CEO of a major construction company in California and has ties to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
