“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/television">Wizards of Waverly Place</a>” showrunner Peter Murrieta wishes he could have been more overt about a same-sex relationship between two characters, but suggested that Disney wouldn’t allow it at the time.
The fantasy teen sitcom aired on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/disney" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Disney</a> Channel between 2007 and 2012. It followed Alex Russo (<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/selena-gomez" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Selena Gomez</a>) and her brothers, who are all wizards by birth and trying to master their powers before they’re lost forever. Stevie (Hayley Kiyoko) is a minor character who befriends Alex. Fans became convinced that the pair were secretly involved romantically, which the show’s creator has now confirmed. 
&#8220;I wished we could have played more with what was quite obvious to a lot of us,&#8221; he said during a recent interview on the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO8UADF40Qc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">podcast</a> “Wizards of Waverly Pod.” 
&#8220;We weren&#8217;t able to in that time, but it was pretty clear to all of us what that relationship was.&#8221;
“Disney Channel has had [<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lgbtq" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LGBTQ</a>] characters, and they did it. At that time it wasn&#8217;t a thing. But we got as close as we could… I mean, it was pretty close,&#8221; Murrieta said, adding that making their relationship a focus would have been “great.”
Kiyoko previously discussed the pairing between her character and Gomez’s. The actress, who is a lesbian, shared her feelings during a 2022 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znKlByA5XRU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with Them. 
&#8220;At this time, I wasn&#8217;t openly queer, and so when I was on Wizards, I think anytime I was doing a show I felt very insecure or exposing myself as a flaming lesbian,&#8221; Kiyoko said. &#8220;But obviously [for] the fans who have watched the show, Stevie is a part of their gay awakening, and I wasn&#8217;t able to mask my lesbian energy very much in the character.&#8221;
Disney has come under fire recently for inserting LGBTQ storylines into children’s programming. 
For example, the new version of “Blue’s Clues” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/childrens-show-blues-clues-features-pride-parade-cartoon-drag-queen-children-explaining-pride-flags" target="_blank" rel="noopener">featured</a> an LGBT pride parade with &#8220;non-binary&#8221; animals and a cartoon drag queen to celebrate Pride Month in 2021. The film “Lightyear” flopped after creators publicized their inclusion of a same-sex kiss as a way to protest Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill. 
Video of a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/not-at-all-secret-gay-agenda-disney-employees-break-down-adding-queerness-to-shows-and-degenderizing-theme-parks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leaked</a> video call at the company showed an executive producer referencing her “not-at-all-secret gay agenda.”

<a href="https://dailywire.com/news/only-murders-cast-members-roast-each-other-on-emmys-stage/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gomez</a> revealed her regret when she joined two of her former cast mates — David DeLuise, who played her father Jerry Russo, and Jennifer Stone, who played her best friend Harper Finkel — for Monday&#8217;s episode of their podcast, &#8220;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97TBj7Svgy4" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97TBj7Svgy4">Wizards of Waverly Pod</a>.&#8221;
DeLuise prompted the exchange with a prewritten question pulled from a &#8220;crystal ball&#8221; on the table, asking her to describe her &#8220;biggest mistake&#8221; with one caveat: &#8220;you can&#8217;t say a boy&#8217;s name.&#8221;
&#8220;Okay, Jesus,&#8221; Gomez reacted, leaning back in her chair. &#8220;You know what? Probably not staying in touch with you guys.&#8221;
&#8220;Oh s***, you&#8217;re gonna make me cry,&#8221; DeLuise responded, removing his glasses and pushing back in his chair.
&#8220;I think I slowly became &#8230; kind of shamed. I felt ashamed of the decisions that I made. I didn’t want you guys to see me in the state that I was in because, a.) you would have told me the truth which terrifies me, and b.) I didn’t want to let you down,&#8221; Gomez told the two hosts, admitting that despite her fears at the time, she felt bad about not doing a better job of staying in touch with them.
&#8220;That’s really sweet and thank you for saying that,&#8221; DeLuise replied. &#8220;We obviously … I miss you and I’m happy you’re doing well now.&#8221;
&#8220;I appreciate you saying that too. To be perfectly blunt, like you know there has been times where I’m like … &#8216;Did we stop being friends because I didn’t tell her what she wanted to hear?&#8217; You know what I mean … so I appreciate you being here,&#8221; Stone added.

On Wednesday, Selena shared a racy snap on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Co_P7YgrrFO/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram</a> showing her in a strapless black top while drinking a cocktail. She captioned it, &#8220;I deleted this one time because I thought maybe it was too much but eh (taking a break from social).&#8221; At the time of this publication, it had been liked more than 12 million times.
Gomez spoke to <a href="https://www.elle.com/culture/celebrities/a42915591/selena-gomez-quit-social-media-hailey-bieber-comparison-comments/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vanity Fair</a> recently about her decision years ago to remove the Instagram app because of hurtful comments, but admitted to having the TikTok app on her phone.

I went through a hard time in a breakup and I didn&#8217;t want to see any of the [feedback]—not necessarily about the relationship, but the opinions of me versus [someone] else.&#8221;
&#8220;There&#8217;d be thousands of really nice comments, but my mind goes straight to the mean one,&#8221; she added. &#8220;People can call me ugly or stupid and I&#8217;m like, Whatever. But these people get detailed. They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety … I couldn&#8217;t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.&#8221;
&#8220;The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be a little less hostile,&#8221; Gomez continued. &#8220;There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually that&#8217;s filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do I send to my assistant who posts them. As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging.&#8221;

The &#8220;Only Murders in the Building&#8221; star explained during an <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/02/selena-gomez-hollywood-issue-2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> published Wednesday by Vanity Fair that &#8220;I wasn’t a wild child by any means, but I was on Disney, so I had to make sure not to say &#8216;What the hell?&#8217; in front of anyone. It’s stuff that I was also putting on myself to be the best role model I could be.&#8221;

Gomez’s former assistant Theresa <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/11/03/selena-gomez-said-she-didnt-want-to-be-alive-during-breakdown/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">explained</a> the situation in a straight-to-camera segment for the documentary, saying, &#8220;At one point she’s like, ‘I don’t want to be alive right now. I don’t want to live.’ And I’m like, ‘Wait, what?&#8217; It was one of those moments where you look in her eyes and there’s nothing there. It was just pitch black. It’s so scary.&#8221;
&#8220;You’re like, &#8216;F*** this. This needs to end. The singer&#8217;s friend Raquelle added that Gomez, 30, had been hearing voices in her head that just got &#8220;louder and louder&#8221; until she couldn&#8217;t stand it any longer.
&#8220;I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off,&#8221; Gomez told <a href="http://www.people.com/article/selena-gomez-time-off-anxiety-panic-attacks-lupus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a> at the time. &#8220;As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.&#8221;
Gomez entered a mental health facility for treatment — a move that she initially pushed back against — and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. &#8220;I didn’t want to go to a mental health hospital. I didn’t want to, but I didn’t want to be trapped in myself in my mind anymore,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;I thought, &#8216;My life is over.&#8217; I thought, &#8216;This is how I’m going to be forever.’”
Gomez also opened up about her <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/11/03/selena-gomez-breaks-down-crying-over-worsening-lupus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ongoing struggle</a> with lupus, an autoimmune disorder that she has been battling for years.
After her initial diagnosis in 2014, the &#8220;Only Murders In The Building&#8221; star went through chemotherapy to treat the disease — but her absence from the spotlight led some to speculate that she was actually in treatment for substance abuse.
&#8220;I wanted to so badly say, &#8216;You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a–holes,’” Gomez revealed. &#8220;I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.&#8221;
She recounted another flare-up of the disease in 2020 that left her in so much pain that she would wake up hurting every day. &#8220;Now it just hurts. Like, in the morning when I wake up, I immediately start crying because it hurts, everything.&#8221;

Gomez pondered for a moment before answering, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know, with a good diet and exercise, maybe 10, 12 years.&#8221;
That prompted a loud laugh from Short — and laughter from the audience as well — but Martin tried to keep a straight face as he delivered the next crack.
&#8220;Earlier tonight, as I was walking the red carpet I have at home —&#8221; he paused as the audience chuckled. &#8220;I thought, what&#8217;s the difference between movies versus television? And I realized, well, Marty can get work in television.&#8221;
&#8220;Aww, thanks, Steve,&#8221; Short replied as the crowd laughed again. &#8220;I&#8217;ve always been curious. Does it bother you when people come up to you and say, &#8216;[gasp] Big fan, Angela Lansbury&#8217;?&#8221;
The crowd roared, but Gomez chimed in once more: &#8220;You know what I love about working with these guys?&#8221;

The 30-year-old pop singer and actress appeared to be sending a message to anyone who has thoughts about her wearing nothing more than a purple floral one-piece swimsuit while lounging on a boat.

The popular audio comes from YouTuber LaTasha Kebe, known as Tasha K, <a href="https://people.com/style/selena-gomez-shares-body-positivity-message-while-rocking-one-piece-swimsuit-from-lamariette-collaboration/">People</a> magazine noted.
The &#8220;Ice Cream&#8221; hitmaker has definitely had a love-hate relationship with social media. Amy Schumer heaped praise on singer Selena Gomez who she said was &#8220;sexualized at such a young age&#8221; as the pop star admitted to being &#8220;ashamed&#8221; about one of her album covers because she&#8217;s not an &#8220;overly sexual person.&#8221;
The 29-year-old Disney channel star was part of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es_qzd6EELU">The Hollywood Reporter&#8217;s</a> actress roundtable discussion with other female comedy actresses when the topic of performers being &#8220;sexualized&#8221; came up. Schumer told Gomez how proud of her she was because she &#8220;rejected&#8221; it from a system &#8220;that made her feel like she had no choice but to go along with it.&#8221; The clip was posted on YouTube recently by the outlet. Stars like Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Shawn Mendes, and more than 100 other performers, musicians, supermodels, and influencers signed an advertisement taken out in The New York Times that read, &#8220;The Supreme Court is planning to overturn Roe v. Wade, taking away the constitutional right to abortion,&#8221; <a href="https://www.today.com/health/health/selena-gomez-ariana-grande-stars-supporting-roe-rcna28693?utm_campaign=likeshopme-gallery&amp;cid=sm_npd_td_in_td-bio_180511&amp;utm_medium=instagram&amp;utm_source=dash%20hudson&amp;utm_content=www.instagram.com/p/CdgFFQgA7Kc/">reported</a> the &#8220;Today&#8221; show in a piece published Friday.
&#8220;Our power to plan our futures and control our own bodies depends on our ability to access sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion,&#8221; the ad continued. &#8220;We are artists. Creators. Storytellers. We are the new generation stepping into our power. Now we are being robbed of our power.&#8221;
&#8220;We will not go back,&#8221; the ad stated. &#8220;And we will not back down.&#8221;

On the Planned Parenthood website, there are details about the campaign with information about joining rallies planned for Saturday, May 14 across the nation over the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leak-of-scotus-draft-on-roe-v-wade-stuns-nation-this-leak-is-the-gravest-most-unforgivable-sin">leaked draft</a>.
A page on the website under the headline, &#8220;Supreme Court Leak: Our Worst Fears Confirmed,” reads in part:

The “Only Murders in the Building” star stopped by “<a href="https://youtu.be/kSXyvyUGuM4">Good Morning America</a>” to discuss a variety of issues, including her self-imposed social media ban that’s had surprising positive effects. 
“I haven’t been on the internet in 4 1/2 years,” the 29-year-old actress told “GMA” during an interview broadcast on Monday. “It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal.”

Experts note the positives of staying connected with people far away but also recommend taking breaks as well.
Gomez also discussed her bipolar diagnosis and how it has affected her life. She said it was “really freeing to have the information” and put a name to what she was experiencing. 
“After years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar and so when I go to know more information, it actually helps me,” the actress told Miley Cyrus during an Instagram Live discussion. “It doesn’t scare me once I know it. I think people get scared of that, right?”
She said in the case of being bipolar, being armed with information was crucial. “When I finally said what I was gonna say, I wanted to know everything about it and it took the fear away,” Gomez told Cyrus. “When I was younger, I was scared of thunderstorms, and my mom bought me all these different books on thunderstorms, [saying], ‘The more that you educate yourself on this, the more that you’re not gonna be afraid.’ And it completely worked.”
While speaking with “GMA,” the Disney alum also talked about her plans for the next decade of her life following her milestone birthday this July. &#8220;I couldn’t be more thrilled to step into this chapter alone, independently, strong, confidently,&#8221; she said. &#8220;That’s all I really want, you know? I’m excited [to turn 30].&#8221;
Previously, Gomez dated fellow celebrities including Nick Jonas, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, and Russian-German DJ Zedd. The singer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/selena-gomez-on-justin-bieber-relationship-i-was-a-victim-to-certain-abuse">alluded to “emotional abuse”</a> during her romantic partnership with Bieber, which is a concept she’s explored in lyrics to her songs.
