President Donald Trump said on Friday that a tax increase on the highest income earners in the country would be &#8220;OK&#8221; with him, but warned that the move could be politically damaging to Republicans.
Trump made the comment after Punchbowl News <a href="https://x.com/JakeSherman/status/1920525154024558934" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Thursday that the president was pushing House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to include tax increases on the rich in Trump&#8217;s &#8220;big, beautiful bill.&#8221; According to <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5290814-trump-tax-hike-wealthy-gop-bill/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a>, which cited three sources, the White House would allow Trump&#8217;s marginal income tax cut to expire for the wealthiest Americans while keeping tax breaks for lower income brackets.
&#8220;The problem with even a &#8216;TINY&#8217; tax increase for the RICH, which I and all others would graciously accept in order to help the lower and middle income workers, is that the Radical Left Democrat Lunatics would go around screaming, “Read my lips,” the fabled Quote by George Bush the Elder that is said to have cost him the Election,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114477701321152097" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on Truth Social.

Trump&#8217;s reference to former President George H.W. Bush goes back to when Bush compromised with Congressional Democrats to increase several existing taxes after famously promising on the campaign trail, &#8220;Read my lips: no new taxes.&#8221; In the 1992 election cycle, Bill Clinton <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1992/08/22/us/1992-campaign-democrats-clinton-says-bush-untrustworthy-jobs-taxes.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slammed</a> Bush over the quote, saying he broke an election promise. Clinton went on to defeat Bush in the 1992 election, as independent candidate Ross Perot garnered 18.9% of the vote.
Trump&#8217;s pitch to raise taxes on the wealthy would reportedly only apply to those making more than $2.5 million a year for single filers or $5 million for joint filers. That would be substantially higher than the top tax bracket for 2024, which applied to incomes above $609,351 for single filers and $731,201 for joint filers. The tax increase on the wealthiest Americans would revert from the current 37% rate to the 39.6% rate that was in effect before Trump&#8217;s 2017 tax cuts, according to Punchbowl News.
Conservatives and Congressional Republicans, including some of Trump&#8217;s closest allies, have blasted the idea of raising taxes on the wealthy.
&#8220;That would be a tax on every small business, every job creator. And you know what? That’s what Kamala Harris campaigned on,&#8221; Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) <a href="https://x.com/johnkartch/status/1920484997850402906" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> during a Thursday appearance on CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Squawk Box.&#8221; &#8220;And I gotta say, the folks in the administration, they&#8217;ve decided to call themselves populists, but just being a Democrat and wanting higher taxes and more regulation, that&#8217;s not populist. That&#8217;s embracing the failed ideas of Jimmy Carter and Joe Biden.&#8221;
Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, <a href="https://x.com/GroverNorquist/status/1920246547310416325" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> on Wednesday, &#8220;President Trump ran on making all the tax rates reductions permanent. Kamala Harris ran on letting the top income tax rates reductions passed by Trump to spring back to the higher pre-Trump/Obama tax rate. All tax rate increases damage economic growth and kill jobs by disincentivizing work and investment.&#8221;
Trump media allies like Fox Business commentator Larry Kudlow and Fox News host Sean Hannity also slammed the idea in April. Kudlow <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/video/6371372375112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> it was &#8220;among the top three dumbest things I’ve ever heard,&#8221; while Hannity <a href="https://x.com/johnkartch/status/1912294066458702132" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added</a>, &#8220;It seems to go against everything Donald Trump has ever believed in.&#8221;

He’s a person who seems like he’s this morally good man, which is hard to find.&#8221;
She tried to explain her assessment in greater detail to Hannity.
&#8220;What I&#8217;m describing, and if you watch the full segment, not just the clip, you&#8217;ll see that I&#8217;m just describing the mentality of these fangirls [who] show up outside Luigi&#8217;s court and show up outside his jail cell. Those girls are not me, OK? We have very separate belief systems. But I was describing how they believe,&#8221; she said.
But when Hannity pressed her, several times, to either condemn Mangione&#8217;s alleged actions or others&#8217; calls for assassinations, Lorenz deflected — and at one point, she joked, &#8220;Gosh, you&#8217;re gonna ask if I condemn Hamas next. This is insane!&#8221;
Hannity repeated his prompt several times, but Lorenz continued to pivot, complaining, &#8220;You want to talk about the assassination of innocent people? I believe that the tens of thousands of Americans [who] die each year because of the lack of health insurance. That is, to me, a violence in itself. That is assassination.&#8221;
Hannity tried once more, asking if those cheering on the death of another human being — a husband and a father — lacked &#8220;a soul, a conscience and a heart.&#8221;
&#8220;Well, what I will say, Sean, once again, is that I believe in free speech. I don&#8217;t believe in things like, you know, religious things like souls and all of these things.&#8221;

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the media would not be successful in driving a wedge between him and his senior advisor, Elon Musk. 
Trump was asked about his relationship with Musk and the work of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project during an interview alongside Musk conducted by Fox News host Sean Hannity. Both men were effusive in their praise of each other and said that the media would not be able to break up their alliance. 
During the interview, Hannity said that the legacy media wanted a “divorce” between Trump and Musk, adding that “they want you two to start hating each other.” 
“Oh, I see it all the time,” Trump responded. “Actually, Elon called me, he said: ‘You know they&#8217;re trying to drive us apart?’ I said, absolutely.”
&#8220;It&#8217;s just so obvious,” he added. “They&#8217;re so bad at it. I used to think they were good at it, they&#8217;re actually bad at it, because if they were good at it, I&#8217;d never be president. Because I think nobody in history has ever got more bad publicity than me.”
“But you know what I have learned, Elon? The people are smart. They get it. They really see what&#8217;s happening,&#8221; Trump added. 
The White House said this week that Musk, who has widely promoted the work of DOGE, is an “employee of the White House Office” and not the DOGE administrator. 
Musk said during the interview that one of the “biggest functions” of the DOGE team was to make “sure that the presidential executive orders are actually carried out.” 
“I just want to point this out, this is a very important thing, because the president is the elected representative of the people so he’s representing the will of the people. And if the bureaucracy is fighting the will of the people and preventing the president from implementing what the people want, then what we live in is a bureaucracy and not a democracy,” Musk said. 
Musk also praised Trump, saying he had not seen him do anything “cruel or wrong.” 
“I think President Trump is a good man,” Musk said. “The president&#8217;s been so unfairly attacked in the media, it&#8217;s really outrageous.”
When asked about their relationship, Trump praised Musk for his work with Starlink providing internet service to hurricane victims and projects at SpaceX. 
“I respect him, I’ve always respected him. I never knew that he was right about certain things,” Trump said. “I wanted somebody really smart to work with me in terms of the country.”

Elon Musk says in an interview scheduled to air in full on Tuesday night that his first encountering someone who has so-called &#8220;Trump Derangement Syndrome&#8221; was like meeting someone on methamphetamines and who had also been infected with rabies.
The interview was conducted with Fox News host Sean Hannity, with President Donald Trump sitting beside Musk.
Hannity noted that he was surprised by how leftists have turned on Musk even though he supports initiatives like electric cars.
&#8220;I used to be adored by the Left,&#8221; Musk said. &#8220;Not anymore. Less so these days.&#8221;
&#8220;There&#8217;s this whole sort of, like, you know, they call it &#8216;Trump Derangement Syndrome,'&#8221; Musk said. &#8220;You don&#8217;t realize how real this is until you can&#8217;t reason with people.&#8221;

In the same interview, Trump said he plans to visit North Carolina on Friday before heading to California to see the ongoing fire destruction. 
&#8220;FEMA has not done their job for the last four years. You know, I had FEMA working really well. We had hurricanes in Florida. We had Alabama tornadoes,” Trump said. “But unless you have certain types of leadership, it&#8217;s really, it gets in the way. And FEMA is going to be a whole big discussion very shortly, because I&#8217;d rather see the states take care of their own problems.”

As an example, Trump said that Oklahoma should lead the recovery if they get hit by a tornado.

FEMA has faced scrutiny over its response to devastating flood damage caused by Hurricane Helene in September, with some communities in rural North Carolina and Tennessee saying the agency slow-walked its relief efforts. One whistleblower told Republicans on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure that FEMA had skipped <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dhs-inspector-general-confirms-fema-probe-says-aid-should-not-be-politically-based" target="_blank" rel="noopener">entire neighborhoods</a> in North Carolina if there were three or more signs showing support for Trump or other conservatives.
That complaint was made after The Daily Wire revealed that a FEMA supervisor in Florida ordered relief works to “avoid homes advertising Trump.”

From North Carolina, Trump will travel to Los Angeles County, California, where more than two dozen people have died after fires fueled by torrential winds had the nation&#8217;s most populous county on edge. Former President Donald Trump described more details about the second attempt on his life on Tuesday night, praising the Secret Service agent who possibly prevented shots from being fired at the Republican nominee on Sunday.
Trump <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/trump-reveals-weakness-efforts-keep-him-safe-says-his-team-has-long-requested-more-manpower" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Fox News host Sean Hannity that the apparent assassination attempt at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, is a &#8220;very different story&#8221; from when a shooter fired upon him in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. The former president praised the &#8220;very sharp agent&#8221; who saw the barrel of an AK-47-style rifle sticking out of a fence around 400 yards from where Trump was playing golf.
&#8220;In this particular case, you had a very sharp agent, as good as you could find, and did a fantastic job, but somebody could have missed the barrel of that rifle,” Trump said. “Somebody of lesser talents or somebody that was distracted could have missed or could have been shot, I mean, frankly, could have also been shot.”
&#8220;But in this case, it worked out very well,&#8221; he continued, adding, &#8220;Butler is a very different story. Somebody should have been on that building, and that&#8217;s a different story.&#8221;
Trump was shot in the right ear in Butler on July 13 after gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks gained access to a rooftop point just 130 yards away from the Republican nominee. Crooks fired eight shots and killed one rallygoer, Corey Comperatore, and wounded two other attendees.

Asked by Hannity if the Department of Homeland Security, which is over the Secret Service, has rejected any requests from the Trump campaign for more resources, Trump replied, &#8220;We have long requested more people.&#8221; He added that &#8220;if there&#8217;s a weakness&#8221; with his Secret Service protection, it&#8217;s that his detail needs more &#8220;manpower.&#8221;
&#8220;We have tremendous rallies and crowds, and that&#8217;s a good thing, but you need more protection,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;I will say, in Butler, we wanted more protection &#8230; and we never seemed to get that.&#8221;
After the second assassination attempt on Trump, President Joe Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-says-secret-service-needs-more-help-after-2nd-attempt-on-trumps-life" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the Secret Service &#8220;needs more help,&#8221; and top lawmakers pushed for the agency to provide Trump with more protection.

Trump highlighted how many of the victims of Harris&#8217; open borders policies are women who are trafficked.
&#8220;They&#8217;re coming in now and they&#8217;re putting them in our Social Security accounts, and they&#8217;re putting them in Medicare,&#8221; he added. &#8220;And just one thing, if you take a look, take a look. Over the last week, I said this was going to happen. And it&#8217;s happening because these people are tougher than our criminals are, our criminals are nice people by comparison.&#8221;

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said on Monday night that he believes President Joe Biden will stay in the race despite questions surrounding his health and mental capability following the debate.
Trump joined Fox News host Sean Hannity for a phone interview on Monday and was asked about Biden&#8217;s apparent mental decline. The former president told Hannity that Biden&#8217;s answers during the CNN debate on June 27 &#8220;didn&#8217;t make a lot of sense,&#8221; adding that some of his answers &#8220;were just words put together that had no meaning or sense.&#8221;
Despite Biden&#8217;s struggles during the debate, which resulted in calls for him to step aside from his re-election campaign, Trump said it&#8217;s likely that the president would stay in the race.
&#8220;It looks to me that he may very well stay in,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;He&#8217;s got an ego, and he doesn&#8217;t want to quit. He doesn&#8217;t want to do that.&#8221;
&#8220;Jill would like to see him stay. She&#8217;s having a good time,&#8221; Trump added, referring to the first lady. &#8220;And I&#8217;m hearing that Hunter is calling the shots, so this isn&#8217;t necessarily a positive thing for our country.&#8221;
Trump&#8217;s comments came hours after Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-tells-congressional-dems-he-is-firmly-committed-to-staying-in-this-race" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent a letter</a> to congressional Democrats, doubling down on his intentions to stay in the race, writing that &#8220;despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump.&#8221;
“The voters of the Democratic Party have voted. They have chosen me to be the nominee of the party,” Biden added in the letter. “Do we now just say this process didn’t matter? That the voters don’t have a say?”
Later in his interview with Hannity, Trump predicted that if the president were to drop out of the race, Democrats would tap Vice President Kamala Harris to be their nominee.
&#8220;It would seem to me from a political standpoint, that&#8217;s who they&#8217;re going with,&#8221; Trump told the Fox News host. &#8220;They&#8217;re not even talking about alternatives, and it seems if [Biden] gets out for whatever reason &#8230; it will be her.&#8221;
Trump called Harris &#8220;an ineffective person,&#8221; adding, &#8220;She was in charge of the border; she&#8217;s never been there. She didn&#8217;t do a good job.&#8221;

Trump leads both Biden and Harris in polling on hypothetical 2024 matchups, and his lead against the president has grown in recent days, including in battleground states. Biden and <a href="https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/approval/kamala-harris/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harris</a> also face approval ratings below 40% as the election approaches. Biden&#8217;s 38.8% approval rating is lower than each of his past three predecessors&#8217; ratings for this point of a presidential term, according to <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/approval/joe-biden/approval-rating" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RealClearPolitics</a>.

California Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/gavin-newsom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gavin Newsom</a> appeared on late night television on Wednesday to bash Florida Governor Ron DeSantis after getting walloped by the Republican presidential candidate during a recent debate.
The Newsom-DeSantis debate, hosted by Fox News personality Sean Hannity, got so out of control that Newsom&#8217;s wife had to intervene to prevent it from going into overtime because Newsom was getting embarrassed, pundits <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/were-done-newsoms-wife-intervened-to-end-debate-against-desantis-report-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. Newsom&#8217;s team later <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/were-done-newsoms-wife-intervened-to-end-debate-against-desantis-report-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claimed</a> that the debate was &#8220;rigged.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m dead serious about this. I have developed a lot of animus towards him because of his animus towards all of you,&#8221; Newsom claimed. &#8220;You know, this guy&#8217;s out there scapegoating vulnerable communities. He&#8217;s attacking minorities, attacking women, and I don&#8217;t like it. And I wanted to push back against it. And I felt like the party was a little timid on all this. I mean, you know, he&#8217;s out there talking about anti-woke, and I mean this, for me, it&#8217;s not anti-woke. What he really means is anti-black.&#8221;
&#8220;He&#8217;s out there censoring historic facts, he&#8217;s rewriting history,&#8221; Newsom claimed. &#8220;He was out there, you know, he eliminated AP African American Studies. He said slavery was somehow some workforce development program. And he doubled down on that. So for me, it&#8217;s a very serious moment where I just felt it was important to blow back against that, against that narrative, and hold these guys accountable on a network where they don&#8217;t hear from guys like me ever.&#8221;
Newsom&#8217;s claims about DeSantis attacking women and minorities were not supported by any evidence and his claims about Florida’s African American history curriculum was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-black-academic-who-co-created-floridas-african-american-history-curriculum-shreds-democrat-lies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inaccurate</a> at best.
The DeSantis War Room responded to Newsom&#8217;s remarks by saying: &#8220;Americans know that DeSantis has succeeded where Newsom has failed. And when Democrats have nothing substantive to say, they default to accusations of &#8216;racism.'&#8221;
&#8220;No wonder why Newsom&#8217;s wife had to throw the towel in for him during the Hannity debate,&#8221; the statement added.

Former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a> predicted on Tuesday that President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden">Joe Biden</a> will not be the Democratic Party&#8217;s presidential nominee in 2024.
During a Fox News town hall in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/iowa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Iowa</a>, host Sean Hannity said Biden is &#8220;struggling cognitively&#8221; and asked Trump if he believes Biden will be the candidate for the Democrats in the next election.
&#8220;I personally don&#8217;t think he makes it, OK? I haven&#8217;t said that. I&#8217;m saving it for this big town hall. I&#8217;ve never really said that. &#8220;I think he&#8217;s in bad shape physically,&#8221; Trump also said, adding later, &#8220;mentally I would say he is possibly equally as bad, and maybe even worse.&#8221;
Biden is 81 while Trump is 77. Biden&#8217;s tendency to lose his train of thought while speaking, along with moments caught on camera where he has tripped or <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-falls-while-standing-partially-on-ground-after-stopping-bicycle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fallen over,</a> have spurred concerns — even among Democrats — about Biden&#8217;s ability to lead effectively. Still, Biden, like Trump, is running as his party&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/latest-presidential-polls-trump-continues-dominance-as-biden-struggles-against-republican-candidates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">clear frontrunner</a>.
Trump also responded to Biden telling donors earlier on Tuesday that he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-says-hes-not-sure-hed-be-running-for-re-election-if-trump-wasnt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;not sure&#8221;</a> he would be running for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2024-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">re-election in 2024</a> if Trump was not also seeking a second term.

Some of the buzz that emerged from the town hall focused on Trump saying he would be a &#8220;dictator&#8221; on &#8220;day one&#8221; of his second term to crack down on border security and ramp up drilling for fossil fuels. &#8220;After that, I&#8217;m not a dictator,&#8221; Trump added.

Biden&#8217;s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, issued a statement that <a href="https://twitter.com/ammarmufasa/status/1732234838281723965" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, “Donald Trump has been telling us exactly what he will do if he’s reelected and tonight he said he will be a dictator on day one. Americans should believe him.”

Throughout the rest of the town hall, Trump offered up some policy ideas such as <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-12-06/trump-pledges-to-expand-drilling-to-pay-for-senior-benefits" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expanding drilling to pay for senior benefits</a> and predicted he would win the Iowa caucuses next month. He trained much of his fire at Biden, who has warned voters <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2023/11/28/remarks-by-president-biden-at-a-campaign-reception-denver-co/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;democracy is at stake&#8221;</a> because of Trump and &#8220;extreme MAGA&#8221; Republicans.

California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom&#8217;s wife reportedly ended the Fox News debate on Thursday night between Newsom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
After the first 90 minutes of the debate were finished, moderator Sean Hannity said that he had more time to extend the debate. Both candidates agreed to stay and Newsom said that he would be &#8220;happy to do it.&#8221;
&#8220;We will take a break. They have agreed to stay,&#8221; Hannity said. &#8220;Well, that’s I guess the debate on the fly. We’ll continue on the other side and later have live post-debate coverage.&#8221;
Behind the scenes, however, the Newsom team was reportedly furious over the outcome of the debate, with Newsom adviser Sean Clegg claiming: &#8220;The debate was rigged.&#8221;
Much of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/epic-contrast-between-freedom-vs-statism-commentators-weigh-in-on-desantis-newsom-debate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reaction on social media</a> to the debate was positive for DeSantis and negative for Newsom.
During the break before the extended portion of the debate, Newsom&#8217;s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, entered the room and intervened to end the debate, NBC News reported, citing multiple sources with the DeSantis campaign and another source that was unaffiliated with either side.
&#8220;We&#8217;re done,&#8221; she reportedly said.

&#8220;Gavin Newsom got beat so badly last night his wife literally had to throw in the towel for him,&#8221; said DeSantis spokesperson Andrew Romeo.

Newsom&#8217;s team claimed that both sides wanted to end the debate. DeSantis team strongly pushed back on those claims, saying that DeSantis was prepared to potentially go as long as three hours.
A spokesperson for Newsom claimed without evidence that there was a teleprompter set up that allowed DeSantis to see what was going to be asked. A Fox News spokesperson said this claim was not true.
Newsom&#8217;s team was also angered that DeSantis used printed images during the debate to show <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-desantis-shows-smut-featured-in-woke-childrens-books-in-schools" target="_blank" rel="noopener">graphic material</a> taught in California schools and a map of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-desantis-shows-san-francisco-poop-map-during-newsom-debate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fecal matter</a> on the streets of San Francisco.
The Fox News spokesperson said that candidates were never told that they could not use props during the debate.
